Does KSU NEED KU?

I keep hearing/reading KU fans lamenting the fact that they will have to drag the "KSU anchor" in potential conference realignment. Does KSU really need Kansas to land in a good BCS conference? If the situation plays out, will Kansas really be held back by K-State?

I honestly have no idea. Kansas does have a rather small population to be supporting two large universities, and that can't help with television ratings (and the money that goes along with those for potential conferences). With football being an important part of the equation, would KSU be fine, or even better off, without Kansas?

CoMoChief 05-11-2010 03:08 PM

Absolutely they do.

chiefsnorth 05-11-2010 03:08 PM

why do they "have" to stay together?

  This should be entertaining. I think it is going to be pretty funny when it is revealed that Missouri was never invited to the Big 10.

There is a lot of history here

I predict copious amounts of indignant butthurt in this thread. :)

Mr. Kotter 05-11-2010 03:14 PM

Iowa has 200,000 people "more" than Kansas; Iowa and Iowa State don't seem to "need" each other?

Yeah, you never try to aggravate KU fans, right? Heh.

Brock 05-11-2010 03:16 PM

I don't know about need, but I do not support breaking these two up.

Do you want to go to the first Missouri/Northwestern game at Evanston? I understand its fairly easy to get tickets.

I assume you'll want to bring something purple. Perhaps you should just wash your KU stuff in hot water and let the red and blue run together. :D

I don't know if they "need" each other, but if the Big 12 collapses, ISU will be hurting.

Honestly, I can't see why this thread would aggravate KU fans at all.

It very well could be that Missouri isn't invited. I think they probably will be and I think they will accept. KU fans seem to agree, at least to some extent, or there wouldn't be much talk about KSU holding them back. While I get to hear about it in person, you can also check out KU's Scout site etc. to see the KSU discussion.

ROFL I have some K-State purple, as I like them both. Get lots of comments from people on the "Power Cat" thinking it is an improvement over the NW logo.

Going to a Mizzou/NW game would remind me of the time I went to a WSU/Nobody game.

Meh. This should turn out to be more of an internal thing. I'll mainly just sit back and watch this one.

This whole thing is starting to bore me a bit. Nothing will be confirmed for at least a couple of weeks, and beyond that, I think everybody with horse in this race has made his feelings crystal clear by now.

I guess it is an angle that had not occurred to me. I still consider the "Big 6" as all needing each other.

Saulbadguy 05-11-2010 04:14 PM

Kansas and Kansas State spend near the bottom of the barrel every year on athletics in the Big XII. This is all about football, and unfortunately, neither school has the resources to compete with the big boys.

Does that clear things up?

Mr. Laz 05-11-2010 04:24 PM

no KSU doesn't need KU ...

i think they should tell the committee they don't and that they want to go off on their own. :)

ChiefMojo 05-11-2010 04:36 PM

Oh they can go their separate ways if the Board of Regents are convinced it is the best for the State overall. If KU has the option to go to a high level conference and KSU does not... in the end the State won't stand in KU's way. It is that or to have two dying Universities and the State doesn't want that.

The board is going to try and force a package deal ... if they wait too long then both teams could end up playing in mid valley scrub league.

hopefully it doesn't get that far

GoHuge 05-11-2010 04:47 PM

Both controlled by the same people........Kansas Board of Regents.

Think of it like Jimmie Johnson (the 48 team) and Jeff Gordon (the 24 team). Both owned by Rick Hendrick, but two different teams that benefit each other.

They're not getting split up for any reason.

you can hear the desperation in Kietzman's voice whenever he talks about it ... he knows KSU is screwed without KU.

Saulbadguy 05-11-2010 04:54 PM

I heard the reason KU was passed up was because of the ongoing investigation to the ticketing scandal...and other goings on.

I mean, how many houses does a head basketball coach in Lawrence really need?

Dude, comon... Financially speaking, MU is a much better deal for the B10, I mean it's not even close. I'm pretty sure that was the main driving force behind that decision. Nebraska brings other things to the table, I guess, like nationally recognized brand and an incredibly good AD (even though they only really care about FB).

If the WEF investigation is what caused KU not being considered, it's a pretty stupid reason.

If anything, KSU would be better off w/out KU even existing. KU takes probably every single in state basketball recruit worth a sh*t and they probably split on football recruits. Same thing in Iowa. Probably 80% of people in Iowa and Kansas like the Hawkeyes and Jayhawks respectively.

So in reality, KU is of detriment to KSU.

wow ... way to take the discussion in a completely irrelevant direction.

this about how KU and KSU relate to the upcoming conference changes etc.

of course every school would benefit if there wasn't any other scholastic competition.

Heh. Paging Lew Perkins...

If the BOR's goal is to protect the interest of the state, I'm sure having one university in a BCS conference and one in a mid-major conference is preferable to having both in mid-majors. Their attempt to help would instead hurt everyone across the board.

If you think basketball KU is a big draw for any conference and KSU is a good draw. Football both teams have been uper middle road the past few years so niether team is a bad candidate for conferences. My question is why does MU want out of big 12 so bad ? It is one thing to run behind the texas schools but to also be behind the Kansas schools! Wish them well they are like the crack head that tells his parents if he moves away and finds new friends he will get clean. LMFAO

Uh...its called MONEY. Nearly twice the amount we're receiving yearly from the Big12 (and that's just athletics related). Not to mention the bigger benefits of more academic/research funding to improve our academic standing and the university as a whole.

Yep. Big 10 makes a jagabillion more per year than the little 12...

Actually I am sick of the small minded weak action of the little 12.

I hope KU wises up and moves on to a better conference soon... There isnt any vision for the Big 12.. I should have its own TV contract and network... Period! Its inexcusable...

The WNIT Championship DVD was embarrassing.

The rest, no. Personally, I enjoy replaying memorable games and re-watching them during the summer when there are no sports worth watching on.

I especially enjoy watching the DVD's of games that I attended, because I was unable to view the telecast, and hear the radio call, because I was there.

Oh comon, like you guys don't swing shit. It's all a part of it. Look at all the shit you guys started talking once your football team sniffed success. Imagine if it was a perennial powerhouse.

Not in the least. I can't understand why I should be embarrarssed. I love them.

That it provides entertainment for Royrun and Arrowtard makes it better. Seriously, have you seen two bigger misfits?

Your obsession with me is flattering but very creepy to say the least... By far the most obsessed over Reerun_KC on CP ever....

I honestly have no idea. Kansas does have a rather small population to be supporting two large universities, and that can't help with television ratings (and the money that goes along with those for potential conferences). With football being an important part of the equation, would KSU be fine, or even better off, without Kansas?

I am quite certain we can do without KU and KSU....I'm just saying:D
