Tamba Hali looks just like DT

With all the misery and aggravation we are suffering (again) as a Chiefs fan, one of the bright spots for me has been the transformation of Tamba Hali. When I see his quick move and bull rush with the big underarm movement getting around the corner just like DT used to do, it's one little bit of positive in a year of too many negatives. Hopefully next year he will only get better.

B.T.W. If I have to listen to one more Haley press conference after a bad loss starting out "I'm disappointed" and then every Friday before the game he talks about the greatest practice EVER, I'm going to puke! Be a man Todd and tell everyone the truth...you're PISSED OFF :cuss:, THE TEAM SUCKED TODAY, AND TOO MANY PLAYERS DON'T KNOW HOW TO MAKE A PLAY LIKE A PRO DOES. The Denver loss was sickening on so many levels.

Let me start off by saying, I'm disappointed in this thread.

Hammock Parties 12-07-2009 05:35 PM

He has DT's heart, conditioning and work ethic.

That's about it.

It's pretty sad to think Hali might be our best player, actually.

talastan 12-07-2009 05:37 PM

While I'll take nothing from Tamba's preformance yesterday, he is no where near DT. No one will ever be that good IMO. Tamba would have to do what he did yesterday and average at least two sacks a game for the rest of the season just to show he's a legimate No. 1 pass rusher IMO. Otherwise we need to address the need during the offseason and maybe move Tamba to the other side.....

Brandon Flowers takes offense to your post.

ChiefsCountry 12-07-2009 05:40 PM

Kyle Orton is John Elway as well.

KcKing 12-07-2009 05:40 PM

You should be face smacked repeatedly with a sock full of acorns and broken glass for even thinking of making that comparison.

Tamba may suck in coverage and take himself out of run plays, but until he dissapears in a playoff game, please don't compare him to DT

That's a good one! DT looked lost on run plays.

Iowanian 12-07-2009 05:49 PM

Something tells me this is going to end up looking like the Passion of the Christ if there isn't devine intervention.

RedThat 12-07-2009 05:49 PM

I think Hali is a very average player. Our passrush still sucks. He has his moments where he could beat OT's around the edge and get to the quarterback or draw a lot of holds. However, I've seen a lot of times where he gets stood up by either a TE, RB or FB. My point is, he shows flashes of inconsistency. And because of that, I don't think he'll ever develop into an elite, or dominating passrusher.

If teams are lining up their TE's, or RB's against him then that speaks high volumes of what opposing teams think about him. I don't think he possesses the speed to be an elite passrusher. DT had the speed, and his timing off the snap was unreal. Hali doesn't have those same attributes. In fact, its not even close.

DJ's left nut 12-07-2009 05:49 PM

I'll say this - I think it was the Oakland game where he had the grey shirt sticking out from under his jersey. Maybe it was Baltimore.

During that game, watching the way he moved and how he made the swim/swat move, he did remind me of DT. Not in terms of ability, but in how he physically appeared on the field.

Now obviously he isn't as good, but his movements and how he looks in pads actually do remind me of Thomas.

RedThat 12-07-2009 05:51 PM

I could live with this team having Hali at OLB on one side, but Id like to see the Chiefs have a dominant passrusher at OLB on the other side.

The Cards blocked Jared Allen last night sometimes one on one with a tight end.

Tamba doesn't compare to Thomas as a pass rusher but he's better than "very average" by a long shot. I'm not sure why people on this board are down on Tamba. He beat Clady yesterday for two of his three sacks, and according to most people Clady is Anthony Munoz reincarnated.

If we had a true nose to push the pocket Tamba would be sitting on 10 sacks right now.

I ****ing love Flowers, but he's dropped way too many momentum-changing interceptions this year. He, like Tamba, Albert and Charles, still has some work to do to be an elite player.

Colquitt is our best player, followed by Succop. I wish that was a joke.

scho63 12-07-2009 05:58 PM

There are few players like DT or Lawrence "I love crack" Taylor but Hali's transformation has been pretty impressive. Maybe I'm just so disappointed this season that a little positive nugget looks like a boulder to me....

Iowanian 12-07-2009 06:00 PM

Hali has become somewhat solid, and made 2 plays I enjoyed using that DT chop at the ball. that is the closest resemblance. He's not even the same caliber or class.

Thig Lyfe 12-07-2009 06:03 PM

Imagine how good this defense would be if we still had Allen on one end and Hali playing at this level on the other.

I used to think the Allen trade would ultimately pay off, but it becomes clearer each week that it's the most damaging move to the long-term success of this team since... I dunno, keeping Grbac?

Dammit Carl! :cuss:

Yea all those runs & screens toward Hali, He's so great.

Iowanian 12-07-2009 06:07 PM

DT wasn't exactly a run stopper. Teams ran at him.

philfree 12-07-2009 06:10 PM

I'm not gonna make any DT comparisons but Hali has made a lot of game changing type of plays this year. It's to bad we haven't been able to take advantage of more of them. 3.5 more sacks and he'll have 10 for the season. That's a few better then I thought he get going into the season. Good for him:clap:

PhilFree:arrow:

brandon 12-07-2009 06:11 PM

I doubt Hali could handle LOLB on anything but third downs. You think he's bad against the run now? Wait until he's got a tight end doubling him on run downs.

scho63 12-07-2009 06:42 PM

One little note-Tamba Hali doesn't have Neil Smith and Dan Saleamua helping at all....

What a dismal post.

You've expressed what we already know, Hali can perform, and Haley (according to the many experts here on CP) is an utter disappointment. This shit is getting a tad repetitive.

Iowanian 12-07-2009 07:02 PM

Are you about ready to post a thread about missing your best friend?

kcxiv 12-07-2009 07:21 PM

Hehe, Hali is better then people give him credit for now. He looks like a rushing linebacker. He gets constant pressure. Are there times where he's stood up? absolutely. It happend to the great DT and even to someone like Lawernce Taylor, Pat Swilling. It happens.

I am not saying he's on them guys level, he's not. Not even close, but he's a bright spot on a shitty ass team.

Right-o.

Hog's Gone Fishin 12-07-2009 09:20 PM

Hali is no DT by any means but he's got a motor that surpasses DT and is able to help downfield much more than DT ever did.

Chiefspants 12-07-2009 09:22 PM

I feel that Hali has exceeded my expectations this year.

That is all I have to add.

Likewise.

Maybe the only player who has. The guy had a huge challenge in changing positions, he's responded admirably.

The comparisons to DT are unfair, but on DT's day... his play honored the guy. Three sacks and two forced fumbles?

It's just too bad the rest of the team was/is so terrible.

Haha, DT would have been proud, not many would have been playing their ass off within that shitpile.

If only Hali would have facemasked the hell out of marshall to complete the honor to DT.

Appreciate the enthusiasm, but Hali on his best day doesn't come close to DT.

That is all.

Big toe Tamba, doesn't look a damn thing like Derrick Thomas, but he has played well.

I would rather him be taking on RTs though, and have a true pass rush specialist on the right.

Comments: Hali is not elite. Never has been, never will be. He was invisible this game and I'm not sure what you are crowing about.

ChiefaRoo 10-17-2010 05:25 PM

Hali is good but he can't dominate every week. I bet he has a monster game in Arrowhead next week.
