It's been spitting ice here since last night around 6..it's finally sticking though.

No snow.

Sure-Oz 03-28-2009 10:55 AM

Here in NKC it's raining alot, seems like some freezing is happening on the cars, but im not sure how slick it is out there.

Mr. Plow 03-28-2009 10:56 AM

We got 16 inches or so. From my front porch to the end of my driveway it was knee high on me.

petegz28 03-28-2009 10:57 AM

Judging by the radar motion I am seeing on weather.com....we ain't getting any snow in the KC area.

Hog's Gone Fishin 03-28-2009 10:58 AM

I lost Electricity for about 30 hours with 30-40 mile per hour winds. We got nailed . Snow drifts as high as 10 ft. But today the sun is shining and me and my little girl are gonna tear it up on a 4-Wheeler. Maybe build a snow man AND a snow fort. She's never had a snow fort.

Dead birds everywhere. I guess they didn't watch the forecast!

Mr. Plow 03-28-2009 10:58 AM

Hutchinson residents need to stay off the streets.

Reno County Sheriff Randy Henderson made the plea Saturday morning, saying stuck vehicles are making it hard for emergency vehicles to maneuver around.

Reno County Emergency Management Director Bill Guy says it will take more than a day for crews to make Hutchinson streets and Reno County roads passable for the average motorist.

He too is urging residents to stay home.

“Some people are venturing out and getting stuck and blocking streets, which slows down our street crews and our emergency crews,” he said. “It is slowing everything down. There is no reason to be out in this unless it is a dire emergency.”

As of about 8 a.m. Saturday, Hutchinson had received between 15 and 18 inches of snow, with drifts more than two feet deep, said Jerilyn Billings, National Weather Service meteorologist in Wichita.

Ambulances and police were having a tough time with the snow, Guy said.

“They are trying their best, but ambulances are getting stuck and some of our law enforcement out there is getting stuck,” he said.

And while city and county street crews were out clearing roads, they also were having some trouble.

“They are running into huge drifts in the roads, and that is hindering them a little,” Guy said.

The situation gets worse out in the county where crews are working to reach stranded motorists, Guy said.

And while Hutchinson did not experience any power outages that he is aware of, Guy said about 400 are without power in Pretty Prairie.

The National Weather Service says the biggest snow amounts fell across a large swath of southwest and central Kansas, with areas around Pratt reporting 28 inches.

Other areas reported snow drifts of up to six feet.

South-central and eastern Kansas was dealing with freezing rain with some areas reporting up to an inch of ice forming on power lines and trees. The Kansas Adjutant General's Office said 17,000 people are without power, more than half of those in Sedgwick County.

Nine counties have issued disaster declarations and said they may need state help to cope with the storm.

They haven't been consistent. What was called a high pressure system in the first half has degraded into misty precipitation in the second half.

Not asking for perfection, just be consistent.

Bwana 03-28-2009 01:20 PM

I have some, do you want it?

GoHuge 03-28-2009 01:21 PM

I'm down at LOZ this weekend and so far it just has rained its ass off. That's a good thing because my dock is damn near sitting on the bottom. The lake has got to be five feet low. Judging by the forecast it's not going to start until later this evening. I have 35 outside right now. Wouldn't bother me if it all just f**ked off. I'm hear for a conference in Osage Beach that started yesterday and my house is in Camdenton. I've got to drive back home to OP tomorrow.

Son of a bitch I just looked outside and it is starting to stick to my truck. This time of year the 21-30 year old ladies crowd is starting to get pretty strong with the weekend crowd starting to make their way down. This is my first weekend down this spring. None of them will be out this weekend with the shitty weather. It'll be a beer and basketball night for me. Relax with the pedifile comments......I'm 29.

I'm no genious, but I'm pretty sure that the difference between a bunch of ice and a bunch of snow is roughly 1 degree. I think you should sue the weathermen for missing the forecast by 1 degree.

If they call for snow then deliver snow. Freezing rain is not snow. My kids were all geeked about 12" of snow and they woke up to crap! Fire the weather guesser people!!!

WilliamTheIrish 03-28-2009 02:09 PM

Exactly. And don't give me any of that heat! If it's supposed to be humid, then give me humidity. I don't ever want to hear, "It's not the heat, it's the humidity".

Bowser 03-28-2009 02:12 PM

Humidity sucks. Worst part about the midwest in summer. Well, that, and no beaches or anywhere really cool to go on a daily basis, but you get what I'm saying.

The only issue I have is the way the local forecasters always spell out a doomsday scenario. Their being wrong about such things has impacts in a lot of other ways. I mean it was just after the KU game last night that miss Katie was on the TV talking about the ass-kicking we were going to get from all the snow in KC.

GoHuge 03-28-2009 03:23 PM

Well I happen to remember enough times when the weather f**kers have screwed up predicting a snow storm I never take it as fact. WHen I was in schoold I remember several times they would predict Armegeddon by snow storm and it NEVER happened! I'd be all psyched thinking no school tomorrow!! PBJ I'd have the four wheelers ready to go and it was gonna be a party!! Then I'd wake up at like five and look outside and nothing. At twelve years old that was the worst. It always seems to happen when they predict something like this. When you give them three or four days to talk about it not a damn thing happens. To the weather f**kers credit the only thing that is keeping this from being a big snow storm is a thin layer of warm air aloft. The snow is passing through that on the way down, turning into rain and either freezing in the air to sleet or freezing rain on the ground (that is how it can rain when it is 23 degrees out). If that bit of warm air is gone it will be all snow. The thing that makes the weather f**kers look dumb is it's not even raining here.

From now on I think they should have to run a disclaimer on the screen saying something to the effect of "this could happen and this could be a bunch of bullshit because we're just really not sure." Instead they spew it as fact like they're Nostraf**kingdamus. That makes them flat out wrong.....at least give yourselves a lifeline we you f**k up yet again :shake:.

Weather forcasters are all the same. They usually give a worst-case scenario. When the temps are close to freezing, its tough to predict. Alot of it depends on temps in the atmosphere.

The majority of growing up, I lived on a dirt road. I learned to drive in all forms of weather growing up in central Kansas. But I was never prepared for the level of idiocy I found once moving to KC and seeing ice/snow on the roads. I swear some people are actually less patient when the roads are terrible. You have to drive so defensively because so few people respect the driving conditions. I'm glad I didn't have to go anywhere this evening...

Tell me about it. I also grew up in Central KS as well, and lived on a dirt road. Lived to drive through a flooded terrain. Drove through a packed in dirt road. Hell, I once even drove on a sand road, and those are rare these days.

I try not to go anywhere at all, if possible, on this type of a shitty weather, but the painting job at the new home isn't gonna get it done by itself, so eventually, I needed to get up there and get some of the work done. But yes, for some odd reason, they think driving 70 mph on the interstate with their 4x4's on, will make them safe. Uh, no. Sorry.

Epic fail.
