Neurology questions
Okay, from my previous thread I mentioned that I had a seizure. It's been a week and I am suffering from MAJOR headaches, crippling, not letting me sleep unless I'm drugged out on perkacets or hydrocodone (which the doctors have had no problem throwing my way and generally lets me sleep 2 hours at a time).
I have an appointment with a neurologist set up, but it is not until may 4. Does anyone know of anyway to fast track an appointment with a neurologist. I'm not sure I can take this for another week and a half. |
Pray to Obama.
Once we have socialized medicine, that waiting list should be about six months... |
Just call the doc again. It's really all you can do, Mr. J Diddy. Tell them that you simply can't wait and at least contact you if/when there's a cancellation (which there always is).
It's either that or ER. FAX |
On second thought, go to the ER. Just go to the one where your doc (assuming that you like him) has privileges. You need a CT scan.

did your regular dr. refer you to this neurologist? if so, shouldn't they have set up the apt? i'd think, if your dr. set up the apt, you might be able to get in sooner.
i may not be right, but whenever my dr sent me to another, they set up the apt. good luck. sec |
I think you should
I think you should I think you should.... http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/image...06_slap416.jpg I think you should ask your doctor. |
Have you been on a ski slope lately?
Ooops... too soon? |

Way to turn my suffering into some sort of political parade to further your own views. I wouldn't call you a class act but I would consider you in a class all of your own. Thank god. |
Try KU Medical Center in KC. Unless you're a MUron.

This is probably my fault, I suspected you might stroke out when you were mad at me last week.

JD. Can you see a different doctor?

An EEG may be in your future, too.
Something we've learned (ARE learning) from dealing with long term illnesses is: Do not expect that a doc office will act like an urgent care, and don't expect and urgent care to act like an ER. Be prepared to not be listened to, but resist the urge to ramp up the emotion in effort to gain a hearing. Be persistent and patient, more than they deserve. |
Don't wait another minute. Get to the hospital.
I had about 10 seizures in 9 months and never had the headache last more than 12 hours. There's something messed up in your melon. Depending on the problem, a good doc might have you feeling good in a day. I haven't had a seizure in 8 years now. |
maybe bad girl can get you some juice

Most practices have more than one Specialist that they refer patients too...
|
find a new doctor.
Do you think they make Bill Gates wait like that? |

If it was myself, I'd call the Dr's office and ask to speak with his nurse. Most neuroogist have NP's that handle phone calls. Tell her you can't take it anymore and would like to either be seen now or would like to go to the ER and have the Dr order whatever test he wants to find out what's up with your pain/headaches.
I wouldn't sit around suffering till May. |
If they won't see you soon enough.......go to their office tomorrow. A minute before you go in, put a couple of alkaseltzer and mentos and a drink of coke in your mouth, wait until it starts fizzing and walk in bubbling out of your mouth.
They'll squeeze you in. |

As I was in the er I thought of doing this exact thing. Unfortunately with the level of care I've been accustomed to they probably would have just let me die. |

Good luck JDiddy. My wifes Mom had to wait about 3 months before she could see a Neurologist..(Gnd. Jct. CO) There are only like three practicing ones here, which is amazing since they have one of the countrys top head trauma hospitals here...St. Marys Hospital
Turns out she had supra-nuclear palsy (SNP) which is very rare, or rarely diagnosed at least. Your symptoms are not like hers were by the way. But anyway, I hope you the best. |
I liked the suggestion of contacting the specialists office and letting them know that your pain makes you desperate enough to go to the ER to have tests done if they can't fit you in. I also like the advice suggesting that you try to get your doctor to help you get an earlier appointment with the specialist because they definitely have more pull than you do.
BTW, surely there's a better drug to help you deal with headache pain than hydrocodone. I'd think about getting a different primary care doctor if the one you have can't help you get a quicker appt. with the specialist and if he can't come up with a better way to manage the pain in the meantime. I don't know what's causing your pain, but I haven't ever had much luck with hydrocodone when I've had headaches. I'm sure my situation is far different from yours, but Excederin often helps more than hydrocodone for me. Edit: Oh yeah, one other thought. Sometimes there are disparities in the numbers of doctors on either side of a state line as a result of the different malpractice insurance rates in each of the two states. If you live near a state line, you might see if there's a doctor available sooner on the other side of the border. If you live in Kansas though, don't count on finding a better situation in Missouri. In any event, this is probably a long shot anyway. Good luck. |
