It's my oldest daughter's birthday. I'll be camped out in my bedroom while the basement is filled with screaming 6th grade girls.

I remember those days. My girl is now 17 and for her birthday this year she took her grandma to a salon and they got all pampered up

she didn't want a party

but what a neat day for a birthday

Working. Playing Auld Lang whatever when the clock hits midnight. And trying to come up with a new arrangement for that song using the closing SNL groove.

He's good.. he lurks here from time to time. He's in college, getting ready for law school and spending every second of the day in one of those college omg-there's-not-enough-time-in-the-day-to-spend-with-you relationships. ;)

Bugeater 12-29-2008 11:25 PM

The usual beer, food, football and fireworks at midnight.

Demonpenz 12-29-2008 11:27 PM

This is the first year of people using "regifting" as a standard meaning of giving away gifts you recieved, and now it is NYE. I keep thinking people were going to new york exchange when I see it. The last time a phrase caught on this fast was "walk off homerun"

sportsman1 12-29-2008 11:34 PM

Goin' to the Armed Forces Bowl, and then findin' some sort of friends party to go to. Air Force VS Houston Should be entertaining.

KChiefs1 12-29-2008 11:53 PM

I'll stay up & watch the Twilight Zone marathon on the SciFi Network.

Boise_Chief 12-29-2008 11:58 PM

I've got about 50 friends coming over and we are going to do the normal NYE party thing. lots of drinking talking loud music, karaoke, food, GH world tour, finished up with someone providing drunken entertainment. It should be good fun.

KCChiefsMan 12-30-2008 12:40 AM

probably walk downtown on Mass St in Lawrence and bar hop.

Frazod 12-30-2008 12:50 AM

I'm old and married. I don't do amateur nights anymore.

Early dinner out (this year it's habachi steak/lobster), then champagne with the wife by the fireplace at midnight.

DaneMcCloud 12-30-2008 12:52 AM

We're taking the subway to downtown Los Angeles (no drinking and driving for us). We're going to dinner around 9pm, then hitting the bar above the Disney Theater (great view).

After that, we're probably heading over to Nokia Live to see STP for a bit, then we'll probably hit a few more bars. I'd like to be home by 2pm.

Actually, I broke down and bought a 2004 BMW 5 series. Dumbest thing I've ever done. The last two cars I had both had more miles than it, and were 8-10 years older, American made. I had a 1996 Dodge Stratus and a 1994 Ford Taurus for the last 4 years until I bought this stupid nazi machine. Believe it or not, these things were even MORE dependable. And when shit went out, it was 1/2 to fix.

I've spent $1700 in repairs on it in the last two weeks alone and I've only had it 4 months. Water pump, radiator, fan blade, drive belt, radiator hose, brakes, etc. What a huge waste of money. I'm even more of an advocate against buying a car worth more than $3000 now. I've sold out, and had to buy a car that didn't hinder me from getting 'giner. Is it worth it? Nope.

Ultra Peanut 12-30-2008 03:17 AM

I'm going to watch the Sun Bowl. I love watching the (usually sunny!) Sun Bowl. It is almost a tradition, one could say, ever since the heady days of the year A.D. 1,999. Minnesota (Golden Gophers) versus Oregon (Ducks) is the perfect Sun Bowl in my opinion because both games were great and I wish they could play each other again in a Sun Bowl sometime because they each hold a win over the other in those great games I was talking about earlier. Reuben Droughns was sick as all hell in the year A.D. 1,999 in both the literal and figurative sense and like I said both games between those two teams I mentioned were hella rad.

You missed it.

Hadn't gotten so drunk I yarfed since...hell...I can't even remember.

Anyway, two weeks ago friday I got off work, decided to have a few at the bar (8-11 AM.) Went home. Showered (no, beer FIRST.) Tried to lay down for a few and get some sleep. Didn't happen.

3 pm my ride shows up for the work Christmas party. We get lost and get there at about 4. After a full belly of breakfast beer I wasn't hungry and didn't think about it.

The party ended at about 12 AM. I was fine until then. One of the 2 other guys I went with had already failed and called the Mrs. to deliver him from evil.

Apparently at 12:30 it was just my buddy, me (passed out in lawn chair in basement,) and my boss (passed out in chair right next to me.) When the buddy's wife showed up to take us home I guess I made it about 3/4ths the way through the yard and dumped 2 gallons of rented beer.

That, not so much a big deal. Apparently he's one of those guys huge into his yard though and this was back when it was cold as all hell. He didn't think much of it but that $3it froze real quick in about a foot n' half circle in his front yard.

the wife(doesn't drink) will drive her and i to some friends house, where several of our friends will get together.
we'll eat supper, visit, etc.
after midnight, the wife(doesn't drink) will drive me home.

and then i'll tell her, as i turn out the light.
i say, "my darling, you were wonderful tonight"

You should have PM'd me. I'd have advised you to lease a new Infinity. They're going for little down (something around $2000) and $349 a month. You'd have had a brand new car for the next 36-42 months and you may have been able to write it off, depending on your line of work.

Buying a 4 year old car is always asking for trouble. That's about the time everything begins to break down.

Good luck with it!

I generally do nothing for New Year's since that's when all the amateur drinkers come out. However, 2008 was one of the worst years in decades for a lot of people. I plan on drinking a bottle of champagne w/2008 on it and slamming it against my house.

One thing I thought was silly, not that I drink martini's is that Martini corner is having like 25 dollars all you can drink thinggy on NYE and the martini's aren't free, I am hoodie and jeans type dude so I ususally go to Harpo's or westport flea market, but I am sure for awesomeness sake that P and L will be lit up and rocking.
