Weekend Plans?

Opening weekend! Going anywhere to watch the game? Staying at home? Having people over?

No plans here yet. Go figure. I'd see if anyone from Springfield wanted to meet up to watch the game somewhere, but we know how well that goes over.

Eh, It's a coordination thing. If I observe them every once in a while I can tell them what helps me later in my DUI prosecutions and they can teach me why they do things too.

Plus I can point out to them "Hey that guy's on Felony bond, that guy's on Community Correction/DOC Parole, etc."

Nzoner 09-04-2008 10:41 PM

I just got back from a NFL kick-off get -together with 5 of my ff league guy, went to a one of their houses and watched tonight's game on an HD projector with a 105" picture...holy shit!!

Anyhow feelin' no pain tonight was 7 & 7 and now have to get ready for a big day at work tomorrow but it's NFL weekend and the fellas are coming over sunday as I'm making 3 slabs of ribs and we gonna kick-off the 2008 opening of the gameroom with all the games1

Bearcat 09-04-2008 10:50 PM

P&L District tomorrow night, thinking about going to Lawrence for the football game Saturday night, but might just sit at home and watch it as well as Miami/Florida. Driving back to Auburn Hills Sunday, so I'll have to Sling in and watch the game Sunday night.

Thinking about offering my Slingbox for gametime since I won't be using it... :hmmm:

Thanks for the offer buddy, but roadblocks are bullshit. Very much against people's rights, which I would expect you to value. The piggies just want everything to be easier for them. I am not near you anyway, so that won't be an issue. In all seriousness, good luck man. I am not trying to stir up a shit-storm. Should not have said what I did, sorry, if you will accept that.

Dude, drinking and driving is just wrong. Doesn't matter if you get caught or not. You have no right to risk the lives of others because you wanted to 8 beers and a couple of shots while cruising for babes. I mean we all know how much babes like drunk guys anyway right?

phisherman 09-05-2008 06:20 AM

i agree, drunk drivers shouldn't be on the road, but don't you think it infringes on the rights of, well, pretty much everyone when the police back up traffic for miles and test everyone?

i know i'm not an expert on it, but when i look at the numbers of DUI's being handed out, i start to think that saturation patrols are the answer, not checkpoints.

can't help it, but it kind of irritates me when i see 30-40 cops, all being paid massive OT, to stage a 4-5 hour checkpoint and they'll get 2-3 people.

sorry, but thousands of dollars aren't worth it to get another couple hundred bucks in the municipal coffers.

Dude, its not about the money. We don't set up DUI checkpoints to make money for the municipal coffers.

Yes, there is a lunacy to previously announced DUI checkpoints.

As far as you being inconvinced.......just think like after 9/11 and trying to get on an airplane. Sometimes "the times" call for us to sacrifice some inconvinence for the greater good and safety of all.

phisherman 09-05-2008 06:29 AM

dude, checking every person getting on a commercial airplane is a "little different" than stopping major traffic routes for HOURS to check every single person in a checkpoint.

whatever happened to arresting people when they actually did something wrong?

If you're sober and not doing anything wrong then you don't get arrested.

I've been through dozens of those things, if not hundreds by now (and I'm not exaggerating). And I have NEVER even had an eye blinked at me. They come up, ask me a couple questions, and let me go.

Yeah, it's a minor inconvenience. But I'll take that inconvenience any day over some drunk asshole driving down the road.

And for the record, when I worked at the TV station on Friday nights and weekends, I got the reports of their stops every Saturday morning from those checkpoints, and I don't think they ever only got one or two. Always was more like 15-20.

Its not different. It's a public street payed for with public money. You don't have a "right" to drive a car. It's a privilidge. Sorry that you are delayed getting on with your life but I worked in an ER/ICU for 9 years and have seen the pain inflicted on families from drunk driving. Having to be a little delayed is not a bad trade off especially since I'm rarely out at midnight on a Saturday night anyway.

agree to disagree.

you'll find that saturation patrols cost MUCH less and catch WAY more drunk drivers.

oh, but i forgot, during saturation patrols, police officers actually have to do something other than shine lights in my face and tell me that i have to come over and use this here breathalyzer machine.

btw, i have never gotten a DWI or DUI, but I do love to mess w/ cops when I got stuck in a checkpoint.

you should read the kc star online, the crime column shows the results of city checkpoints.

just seems to be a waste of $$$ to stop a couple thousand cars and give out 10 tickets.

i don't like drunk drivers any more than the rest of you do, i just think there are better ways to find them, other than stopping EVERYONE.

i know i'm not an expert on it, but when i look at the numbers of DUI's being handed out, i start to think that saturation patrols are the answer, not checkpoints.

can't help it, but it kind of irritates me when i see 30-40 cops, all being paid massive OT, to stage a 4-5 hour checkpoint and they'll get 2-3 people.

sorry, but thousands of dollars aren't worth it to get another couple hundred bucks in the municipal coffers.

How busy is traffic there at 1AM? Any DUI checkpoint here has been done late enough that it's basically only the barhoppers and late night movie goers.

Please no pictures. The mental image is enough for me already. I've had to call Dr. Laura and I'm on hold for Dr. Phil.
