Game is over already :shake:

I think it's a combination of both Davies not being very good and the Tribe letting out all of their frustrations at once...

We need to start swinging the bats, for sure - it's not like we're facing a great pitcher, either.

i knowzzz if dotel was on the royals him being on the DL anyway would've prevented today's starter from allowing 7 er!!!!!11one

I never said anything about Moore or Dotel. I like Moore. He is the best thing that has happened to this team in decades. His signing drove me to buy season tickets. So I see not the need for the words to be put in my mouth

I'm glad I missed the start of the game today. I think I'll write this one off and go see a movie.

SCTrojan 08-25-2007 06:42 PM

On the bright side, the White Sox lost today, so the Royals will stay out of last place.

This is who Davies has been his entire career. He's either very solid or very terrible. Rarely in between.

Yeah you couldn't be any more accurate. I just went and looked at his career stats and that's what he is. Hope something changes, but we've seen it with our own eyes in the four or five starts we've seen him.

Marlboro_Chief 08-25-2007 10:49 PM

Davies is more talented than any starter the Royals have had in the last five years not named Meche or Greinke.

Jeremy Affeldt belongs in the talent discussion, and so does Denny Bautista. Talent isn't everything, clearly.

The good news is that Davies is very young. He has a good chance of someday putting it together. But it'll be rough finding out if he can or not.

Reminds me of Croyle. I'm glad Carl isnt running the Royals.

tk13 08-26-2007 01:29 AM

The thing people seem to forget, Davies is the exact same age as Soria and Greinke. Greinke's been up, down, all over the place, and people still consider him one of our best prospects. Fans would've had a riot had we traded him away. Yet Davies seems to be thought of way different, like he's older or something. And he's not.

Affeldt had a lot of talent, but he was 23 when he first came up for the Royals. I still don't think we handled him properly... we should've stuck him in the rotation and left him there.

That says a lot more about the Royals starters the last 5 years than it does about Davies.

chuxtrux 08-26-2007 02:19 AM

WE COULD OF STARTED CROYLE AND WE GO WITH DAVIES?!?!?!?!? WTF CARL!!!!

What about Bannister and De La Rosa?

I will have to disgree with you on the talent of Davies.

Davies has more talent than Bannister and De La Rosa, yeah. Bannister doesn't have that much "talent," really. He just knows how to pitch and has control of his pitches.

Davies ate up the minors at like 19 years old w/ 4 plus pitches. In terms of raw "talent," Davies ranks highly.

I will let the stats speak for themselves.

Bannister has been all-fucking-world this year.

Knowing hot to pitch and having control is talent son.

I haven't seen Bannister get jacked liek Davies has yet.

Affeldt couldn't keep his finger healthy when he started. But he's been doing damn good as the Rockies middle reliever this year. I'm sure he's happy how things worked out.

"He knows how to pitch and has control of his pitches" That isn't talent?
I'll take guys who can put the ball over the plate and get a ball into play every day over guys with potential. :shake:

Davies is more talented than Bannister, but again, that's not saying a whole lot.

What he probably meant to say is that Bannister is maximising what he's got. He's doing everything we could hope for, but his "ceiling" is not as high as Davies and Greinke. Whether those two ever come close to their "ceiling" is anyone's guess, but the only way to find out is to keep running them out there and hope our pitching coaches know what they are doing in between starts.

Reaper16 08-26-2007 10:32 AM

Talent here is being used as a scouting term, obviously. Some guys, like Bannister, who I love, just know how ti pitch despite having less talent (or, as mentioned above, "cieling") than other guys.

Think about Tom Brady and Peyton Manning. Manning is clearly the more physically talented QB of the two, and their draft positions reflect this, albeit in different years (#1 overall vs 6th round). Brady can flat play QB, though, so his deficiency in raw talent compared to top QB prospects is heavily marginalized.

I'm just stating some facts here, I'm not defending Davies and slamming Bannister, like petegz and alanm seemed to think. Quite the opposite, actually.

Sure-Oz 08-26-2007 10:39 AM

Give davies more than a few starts before you bash him. He does have more talent and still is very young, give him a good season before you rip him to shreds. We could be sitting with no possibility of a decent to good starter with Dotel on the DL here.

I think Brady and Manning would grade out about the same as athletes, their difference in draft position was that Manning went to a high profile Tennessee and started for four years and Tom Brady went to a high profile Michigan program and did not get to start until late in his college career.
