I still don't know why they bothered to resign Carr last year. His days in Houston have got to be numbered.

I was thinking that as well. Thats a weird move.

Looks like the Texans give up a 2nd round pick (39th overall).

<A name=381718>Texans | Team on verge of acquiring Schaub
Wed, 21 Mar 2007 10:38:20 -0700Jay Glazer, of FOXSports.com, reports the Atlanta Falcons and Houston Texans are on the verge of a trade that would send quarterback Matt Schaub to the Texans in exchange for a swapping of first-round draft picks in this year's NFL Draft, a second-round draft pick in this year's draft and a second-round pick in 2008. Schaub is trying to work out a long-term deal with the Texans. While the deal is not yet finalized, it is expected to be completed Wednesday, March 21.

chagrin 03-21-2007 12:10 PM

Wow, they still have no O-line, shouldn't they give Carr a chance first - I feel sorry for that guy, well money he made aside, he got friggin killed out there for 4 years

Mile High Mania 03-21-2007 12:12 PM

I kinda like the move. I think he has solid potential as a starting QB and it will be interesting to see what HOU does now with that top pick. They need WR help and in spite of signing Green and resigning Dayne, I think they need to get a RB in the draft as well.

Frosty 03-21-2007 12:12 PM

Wow. That seems like a steep price to get a QB that has never won a game he has started.

Halfcan 03-21-2007 12:14 PM

They could have had Green for a 2nd.

L.A. Chieffan 03-21-2007 12:14 PM

Personally I think Carr might do well in a different system with an actual thing called 'an offensive line'.
But that's just me.

Sure-Oz 03-21-2007 12:16 PM

What happend to Domanick Davis as their starting RB?!

Dominick Williams I think

I think Schaub will be a good QB...but a 1st and 2 seconds?.....steep

Hoover 03-21-2007 12:31 PM

I think the Chiefs should go after Carr. i think they kid has talent, he just has never had any protection. Ley him, Haurd and Brady battle it out.

chop 03-21-2007 12:33 PM

I think it is a steep price for an unknown QB. Sure he did a good job in his brief fill in role but still he hasn't been the starter for a long period of time. Can you say Elvis Grbac and Scott Mitchell.

Because in limited playing time, he has looked better than the Amazing Michael Vick.

Plus, to be fair, those loses weren't really on Shaub. Their wideouts suck and their defense hasn't been very good when he has played.

I wouldn't mind that.

If Green gets a deal done, acquire Carr and let Carr/Huard/Croyle compete.

Moved down 2 spots in the 1st, and 2 2nds. Still too much, but they don't lose much in the 1st round.

Flip flopping in R1 won't cost them much, but that and two R2s... weird.

Iowanian 03-21-2007 01:25 PM

Thats an aweful lot to give up for him, but I think if they put a decent Oline in front of him, he's going to be a good QB for them.

CupidStunt 03-21-2007 01:27 PM

Extremely overrated player.

See what the backup can do, I guess, but I'd be willing to wager he never lives up to all his unfounded hype.

ct 03-21-2007 01:56 PM

Just more picks to convince Atlanta they want Jared Allen. I read it here on the planet, so it must be true.

I'd love to see Carr in a Chiefs uniform. I have always thought he is a smart, accurate QB who has played behind a horrible offensive line in Houston with a lack of a consistent running game.

THIS is what the Chiefs should be doing with their QB situation this offseason, keep Trent as the incumbent starting/stop-gap starter, and bring in a young guy like a Carr or Schaub (too late for the Schaub option apparently) who has shown legit flashes of promise in the NFL to develop behind Trent.

Damon Huard is not even an answer for a sustained starting stop-gap QB role and Brodie Croyle isn't an NFL-caliber QB except in the eyes of Herm Schottenheimer and his pathetic joke of a puppet offensive coordinator.

I think a change of scenery and an actual NFL offensive line could do wonders for Carr.

I totally agree with that. That Boselli pick hurt them in so many ways.

Chiefnj 03-21-2007 02:44 PM

I guess Houston thought they wouldn't get Quinn and the Falcons organization has decided it's Ron Mexico all the way. How many coaches will Vick kill?

CupidStunt 03-21-2007 03:06 PM

Two high seconds for Allen would be nice.

Either get a REAL solid first day with 5 picks including three inside the top 50, or package some picks and get an elite prospect like Levi Brown.

OnTheWarpath15 03-21-2007 03:41 PM

Adam Schefter just said that the Falcons may now make a play for Calvin Johnson.....?!?

They didn't get an EXTRA R1, the just moved up to #8.

Their first 3 picks don't total enough to move to Detroit's spot to grab CJ.

Detroit R1 (2 OVR) = 2600

Atlanta R1 (8 OVR) = 1400
Atlanta R2 (39 OVR) = 510
Atlanta R2 (44 OVR) = 460

Still 230 "points" short.

Personally, I think Detroit would and should do it if offered........

Matt Schaub-QB- Falcons Mar. 21 - 5:35 pm et

Matt Schaub and the Texans have completed a contract extension.

Schaub will head to Houston to take a physical and finalize the trade. Terms haven't been announced, but Schaub's agent says, "It's a real deal."

Monty 03-21-2007 04:02 PM

I guess I don't understand all the talk about Carr being decent either with a new system or with a stellar offensive line. I personally think he doesn't have the mental ability to be competitive in the NFL. No way would I want him in KC. I'm not that hot on Croyle either, but I'd rather have him than Carr. At least there's still some potential that Croyle could be a legit starter in the NFL.

SBK 03-21-2007 04:13 PM

Atlanta making a play for Calvin Johnson would make sense, since he's from Atlanta and all.

Then again, it also makes sense because they like to get killed to trade up to the top of the draft.

milkman 03-21-2007 06:59 PM

I've said this for two years now.

Carr shares the blame for the number of sacks and hits he takes.
He holds onto the ball too long, a weakness to his game that was discussed by some draft sites when he was drafted.

The Texans have worked to retrain him, to get him to make quicker decisions and get rid of the ball quicker, but he just doesn't get it.

No ****ing way I want Carr in KC.

Yeah, except for the fact that he's been in a less complicated system.

I believe that Joe Pendry was his OC for a year or two, and systems don't get any easier than Pendry's.

the Talking Can 03-21-2007 07:18 PM

so they pass on a QB last year, in a great draft for QBs....then spend 3 picks on a QB this year....smart

BucEyedPea 03-21-2007 07:37 PM

Haven't read the thread...but I think Schaub was a good QB for Atlanta and they shoulda got rid of Vicky instead.

HOLY SHAT!

" League and team sources confirmed that Schaub has signed a six-year, $48 million contract with the Texans, a move that officially consummates the trade. As part of the deal, Schaub -- who played golf with Houston coach Gary Kubiak on Monday in a get-acquainted session, the Houston Chronicle reported -- will receive $7 million in guarantees. Schaub, 25, will earn roughly $20 million in the first three years of the contract. After the first three years, the Texans must pay Schaub a $10 million option bonus in March 2010 to trigger the final three seasons of the contract, or he becomes a free agent. "

Interesting from Rotoworld

Matt Schaub-QB- Texans Mar. 23 - 9:41 am et

The Texans reportedly added a second second-round pick to their package for Matt Schaub because Oakland was after him.

Very interesting. The Raiders offensive coordinator is Greg Knapp, who coach Schaub in Oakland. The attempt to acquire Schaub could indicate that the Raiders aren't sold on drafting a quarterback with the first overall pick.
