How the UK Views BBQ from KC

Hey all,

Thought you might enjoy this article I found concerning Some folks from the UK ranking BBQ joints in KC. Seems as though they are starting some BBQ places in London called Bodean's and they are modeling it after KC BBQ and not Texas BBQ.

Lil Jakes Eat it and Beat It was one my favs for lunch when working in the city. Its a shame they made him move for the Power and Light District, should have made room. I have not been to his location in the Freight house. It is now on my list.

I have not been to most of those places.

Winslows in River Market is my favorite for Ribs.

I like Red Hot and Blue in Joplin as well-always stop there on the way through town.

Surprised no mention of Gates anywhere.

My wife has a friend from here (Alabama) who was in KC a month or so back. He didn't bother to ask the KC native where to go and wanted to taste some of the legendary KC 'que. Went to KC Masterpiece.

Really? That's where they told her they ate. Is there something similarly named?

Bodean's has been around for years. They actually do a very nice job all things considered. I frequented it when I was living in London from 07-08.

Sorry, I jacked up the details. Just asked the wife, it wasn't a friend, it was a customer. And apparently it wasn't recent.

But they judged all of KC 'que on that experience and don't want to go back now.

She told them if they're ever back, to call her. She'd steer them to the right places.

KC Masterpiece wasn't a terrible place to eat. It just wasn't really traditional BBQ and the sauce is brown sugar koolaid. Similar to a Famous Daves setup.

People judging KC on Famous Dave's drive me bonkers. Not KC, it's Minnesotan.

I was in KC for the Chiefs-Broncos Thursday nighter this year. The wife and I were doing some shopping that morning. While in a shoe store, the cashier found out we were from out of town, and started chatting us up. She mentioned bbq, and then asked where we were staying. I told her our hotel reservation in OP got screwed up, and that we ended up all the way North at the Kansas City Speedway. She said, "Oh, there's a Famous Daves right there in that area, so you're fine as far as BBQ is concerned."

Throat punch.

FYI... there's also an Arthur Bryants nearby there. Also, that ain't North KC.

Yeah, I've been to that AB a few years ago. That's one of the reasons I thought it was so awful that a KC native was championing Famous Daves. I mean, how can you be from KC, and still be so in the dark?

That's not Northern KC? Sheesh. Maybe it just felt way north because it was much further away than we intended on staying.
