How do I tell my friend if he has a bad hygiene problem
He just received his PHD in physics but he has not able to get a job. According to him, he had wonderful interviews but fell thru. One thing I notice that his teeth are somewhat yellow and the breath is overwhelming. How do I point this out to him without hurting his feeling?

just come out and tell him.
like pulling off a band-aid. all in one shot and quickly |
Yeah there's no way to tell someone they have poor hygiene without it coming across mean or preventing that person from becoming defensive. You just need to be as direct, specific, and non-punishing as you can.
Or just tell him he smells like a decaying bag of **** |
**** his feelings. Just tell him.

If he is a close friend, just saying that his breath stinks and his teeth are yellow shouldn't be a relationship ender. |
Tell him to breath in a dog's face...they sniff asses, so any negative response should clue him in.

He's a physicist. He has no feelings of which he is aware.

If he gets defensive from your observation, a simple, "Well I know I wouldn't hire you I had to sit across from that every day."

Dude you got bad breath go brush your teeth & use anti-freeze to rinse out with.

OMG, this is a tough subject. Ive been here. You have to tell him directly.
The problem with halitosis (sp?) is it can be related to very serious conditions in his digestive system. He needs to have it checked. http://www.webmd.com/oral-health/guide/bad-breath |
Tell him he has a case of the zakles
His mouth smells zackly like his ass |
I would rock it indirectly.
"Hey, friend, I just saw this article on common interview trip ups; not sure if any of these apply to you, but maybe worth a read so you can knock the next one out of the park!" Then, if he doesn't pick up on it, I would engage him in a conversation in which I steer him into realizing it for himself. "My friend so-and-so is a recruiter, and you would not believe what she told me about last week! This guy came into an interview and had a bolo tie and a booger in his nose. I know, right? She said she gets these people all time. People with dirty nails, nasty coffee breath, uncombed hair, missing teeth... she went on and on and said there's no way in hell she'd ever hire any of these people. Sounds like a crazy job, Makes me think about the interview scenes in step-brothers! "Pand? There's a 'd' in it?"" |
