T.O. Falls Asleep in Team Meetings---- Jerry Jones calls it a "personal health issue"

Terrell Owens may not be catching a lot of footballs, but he seems to be catching plenty of Z's -- in team meetings, most recently on Thursday.

Owens

"I don't know what it is," Owens told the Dallas Morning News after Thursday's practice. "I've never been diagnosed with it. It's nothing new for me to fall asleep in a meeting. It goes back to my rookie year in San Francisco. My receivers coach [George Stewart] knew I would fall asleep. He thought I was staying up late, and sometimes I did. When I did get to bed early, I would still get to meetings and fall asleep, and it's the same thing here."

Owens said he'd told the Cowboys before he signed with the team that he had a sleeping problem.

The reason? The standout wide receiver said he's not staying up late. But Owens added that once he processes the game plan, the meetings and film work become redundant. And in a dimly lit room, Owens can doze off in a hurry.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said takes the news in stride.

"Those are personal health issues, and we all have them in varying ways. I don't say that as though it's something that's irritating at all," Jones said.

Passing game coordinator Todd Haley isn't so sympathetic, Owens said.

"Todd is a big stickler, and he kind of got offended," Owens told the paper. "That's one of his pet peeves about not sleeping in a meeting. I talked to him one-on-one and said, 'I'm not trying to fall asleep. I've always been like that.' "

Owens said he once had Stewart, who now coaches in Atlanta, call Eagles receivers coach Davud Culley in Philadelphia to tell him about the sleep problems.

"At some point, give me a little vet credit," Owens said. "But I understand [Haley] wants me to be a professional and be a stand-up guy for the younger guys on the team."

In seven games this season, Owens has 37 catches for 482 yards and five touchdowns.

What a putz. I'd still take him on my team.

Can somebody PLEASE beat this guy's ass? :banghead:

PinkFloyd 11-03-2006 04:55 PM

Overdosing on crack will do that to a person sometimes !!

CoMoChief 11-03-2006 04:59 PM

What else can he possibly do to seem like a complete asshole?!?!

hypersensitiveZO6 11-03-2006 04:59 PM

I would take him on my team until what I saw a few weeks ago. He scored a TD and his linemen came over to congratulate him and Terrell just ignored him. He has some great games, but overall, I think he's just a negative for a team.

I guess he is a Bipolar freak show, who is taking waaay to many meds, and he really did try to commit suicide. I think it was due to a camera not being in his face giving him attention.

I feel really bad for him. He has this terrible affliction where he can't practice or stay awake in meetings. Must be tough to deal with. Maybe we should start a charitable foundation to find a cure. Or Bill Parcells could decide to treat him like any other player on the roster and get him in line.

Frazoid,

I love that Avatar. There's a rep heading

I'm starting to think he is like Rickey Williams, where he doesn't mean to be an ahole, he just has the mind of a 12 year old kid and never grew up past that for whatever reason. Environment, parenting, whatever. He's like a kid in an adult body.

I tend to have the same problem. Heck, I fall asleep in the doctors waiting room even though they are pretty good and it only takes 10-15 minutes to be called to the back.

Yeah, but at work?

I don't think Terrell realizes he is in a job.

Some days I am so bored at work IF I could get away with it, I would fall asleep at work. I don't see the big deal besides someone trying to find something to keep T.O. in the headlines.

I think it's a big deal. Lack of respect for the coaches. Like he better than them. But this isn't anything we don't already know. :D
