New York ****ing sucks at officiating MMA, lol
|
The ref absolutely should have stopped the fight right there, that was fine so I have no problem with the result, but this idiot thought he could call a time-out like with a deep cut or something.
|
This PPV is absolutely hilarious.
We were ***THIS*** close to a double-KO, the rarest thing in combat sports. Mitrione and Fedor hit each other right on the chin at the same time, both went down. Fedor was hurt, but Mitrione wasn't and scrambled to his feet for the finish. |
This is nuts.
Much better than whatever the UFC has put out in recent memory. |

Oh, and a young Gracie won a fight in the modern days of MMA. Crazy! |
Chael Sonnen grinds out the clear victory. Coker must be happy, because they can market him.
This was a pretty good PPV with lots of wackiness, and maybe 2 good fights. edit: HAHAHA, Chael loudly declared in the middle of MSG, that he hates New York. |
This was unambiguously a fantastic success for Bellator. This particular card might not make a lot of money, because a lot of MMA fans went "lol **** that" and refused to pay for it, but there's gonna be a whole lot of "holy shit you missed an awesome show" word of mouth, and maybe next time they'll give it a chance.
They just need to pace themselves and realize they aren't at "we can sell a PPV every damn month" like the UFC, wait a few months for the fights to align, put together another interesting card, and sell it again, see what happens. |
You could have made a legitimate argument to stop that fight in the 3rd round there. Penn literally did nothing the last 5 minutes.

Hendricks is thoroughly screwed. Unless he absolutely needs the money, he should retire. He's competitive at Welterweight, but there's no way the UFC will let him try to cut to 170
|
Wow. Mario Yamasaki totally blew the main event.
Lee had the choke in deep but Chiesa wasn't tapping yet. Mario was expecting a tap I guess, stopped the fight and Chiesa was wide awake and angry. Lee was probably about to win, but it definitely was not for sure. |

Mario has been skating on thinner and thinner ice every month. He's reaching the point where he should probably not be reffing anything on a main UFC card anymore. The funny thing is that Mario had a reputation for being a bloodthirsty ref, letting fights go way too long until a fighter is fully concussed, pouring blood, and half-dead before he finally stopped it, so its shocking to see an early stop from him now. |
Megan Anderson is out, only explanation so far is "intense personal reasons that are out of her control".
Cyborg will fight the invicta Bantamweight champ. I'm obviously skeptical that this will be a competitive fight, but hey, she went 10-0 (1) in her last 11 fights, so who knows. <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">BREAKING: Anderson out, <a href="https://twitter.com/InvictaFights">@InvictaFights</a> bantamweight champ <a href="https://twitter.com/tonyaevinger">@TonyaEvinger</a> in to face <a href="https://twitter.com/criscyborg">@CrisCyborg</a> at <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/UFC214?src=hash">#UFC214</a> <a href="https://t.co/kdAwMHYrQw">pic.twitter.com/kdAwMHYrQw</a></p>— UFC (@ufc) <a href="https://twitter.com/ufc/status/879877210772914176">June 28, 2017</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script> |

Dana White hired Snoop Dogg to do fight commentary for his Tuesday Night contender series. It sounds like they are putting together 2 broadcast teams, and letting you pick one. You can either listen to a traditional broadcasting team, or you can select the "SnoopCast" and listen to Snoop Dogg and Urijah Faber.
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">UFC enlists Snoop Dogg for alternative commentary on new fight series <a href="https://t.co/Ywb5SOloW3">https://t.co/Ywb5SOloW3</a> <a href="https://t.co/oVavkeBTPu">pic.twitter.com/oVavkeBTPu</a></p>— MMAFighting.com (@MMAFighting) <a href="https://twitter.com/MMAFighting/status/880916381885231104">June 30, 2017</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script> |
This is the UFC's international fight week, so lots of UFC this week. They will have their hall of fame induction ceremony Thursday on Fightpass.
Friday 6pm TV - (5pm Fightpass/6pm FS1) - The Ultimate Fighter Finale Johnson vs Gaethje Pretty weak card as expected for a Friday TUF finale, but what else are you gonna do? There's maybe one or two fights I'm interested in. Saturday 7pm TV - (5:30pm Fightpass/7pm FS1/9pm PPV) - UFC 213 Nunes vs Shevchenko 2 Losing the Cowboy vs Lawler fight to UFC 214 (which will make that PPV even more incredible) hurts, but this is still a very good PPV. 4 good fights with a random trashweight fight serving as an intermission between the first and last 2 fights. The prelims are also pretty decent. Tuesday 7pm - (Fightpass) - Dana White's Tuesday Night Contender Series OK, so this thing is going to start next Tuesday. I don't want to think about posting the weekend schedule on Mondays, so I'm just going to say that our "week" runs from Wednesday through Tuesday. You likely will have never heard of most of these fighters, who are all fighting in Dana White's separate, totally not the UFC fight promotion, hoping to earn a contract with the UFC. Why should you watch this? Well, Snoop Dogg is reportedly going to be available along with Urijah Faber on the stream offering alternative commentary during the fight. If I do watch this, it will literally be mostly because of that. |
The weigh-in for UFC 213 is over. Everyone made weight, though Yoel Romero needed the towel.
|
Tonight's PPV is now a dumpster fire. Nothing official yet, but Nunes has apparently been sick all week, and was in the hospital this morning. I assume its weight cutting problems, which is usually the case for illnesses during weighin
edit: dumpster fire is too strong of a word, its still a fine PPV, just only about average. <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Multiple sources have told me Amanda Nunes is 100 percent off UFC 213 tonight.</p>— Brett Okamoto (@bokamotoESPN) <a href="https://twitter.com/bokamotoESPN/status/883764704912355328">July 8, 2017</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script> edit2: Its now official <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Amanda Nunes ill, out of UFC 213 main event <a href="https://t.co/0p9o8sg7zg">https://t.co/0p9o8sg7zg</a> <a href="https://t.co/Fk1bWYERiK">pic.twitter.com/Fk1bWYERiK</a></p>— Ariel Helwani (@arielhelwani) <a href="https://twitter.com/arielhelwani/status/883768661277888514">July 8, 2017</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script> |

If this fight was in Pride, Fabricio would have won. The end of the fight should really dictate the outcome more than earlier rounds.
Werdum should have went for the finish, though. He has no one to blame but himself. |
Wow. Gegard Mousasi signed with Bellator. He was pretty much 2nd in line for a title shot after Whittaker.
If the UFC is not going to pay to keep their top talent, then at some point Bellator will be a real competitor. |

I think the UFC also has a right of first refusal for all fighters, which means they have to be given a chance to match Bellator. In Mousasi's case, the UFC decided not to match the offer and let him go. |

Sounds like only reason Floyd is fighting Conor is to pay off a tax debt:
Floyd Mayweather says he can't pay off his 2015 tax liability until after he gets money from his Aug. 26 fight against Conor McGregor. The boxer filed a Tax Court petition on July 5 that asks the IRS to allow him a reprieve until the fight. "Although the taxpayer has substantial assets, those assets are restricted and primarily illiquid," the petition said, according to the legal website Law360. "The taxpayer has a significant liquidity event scheduled in about 60 days from which he intends to pay the balance of the 2015 tax liability due and outstanding." http://www.espn.com/boxing/story/_/i...orary-reprieve |

If you are a MMA fan and a Fightpass subscriber, then this is going to be a very busy weekend.
Friday 6:30 pm - (Fightpass) - Glory 43 Its probably the top kickboxing promotion. If you like the sport, you should probably watch it. 8pm - (Spike) - Bellator 181 Looking at Tapology, this card is very good by Bellator standards. Their prelims can probably be seen on the internet if you aren't into kickboxing. Saturday 7pm - (Fightpass) - Invicta FC 24 Invicta is live from Kansas City for what feels like the 100th consecutive card. This was originally going to include a title fight, but the UFC swooped in and took it. Sunday noon TV - (11am Fightpass/noon FS1) - UFC Fight This is below average compared to most UFC Free TV cards, but the last 2 fights are interesting. Dana White obviously wants to push Cynthia Calvillo who is trying to act like a female Diaz, but she has to prove she can actually fight against her first real opponent and isn't just another Paige Van Zant-like novelty act. Tuesday 7pm - (Fightpass) - Dana White's Tuesday Night Contender Series If you weren't watching last night, it was pretty entertaining, almost magical even. Take TUF, remove all the reality TV drama bullshit, add in more focus and analysis on the actual fight card, and bring in a drunken team of Urijah Faber and Snoop Dogg for commentary. Profit! |
If UFC 214 holds together and doesn't fall apart due to training injuries and weight-cutting failure, then I plan to put up a separate thread for that card on the day of the event.
We usually get about 1 or 2 cards a year where casual UFC fans who only watch a couples times a year might be interested, and since UFC 214 looks utterly bananas, that will probably be the big event of the year, barring McGregor doing something in December. |

Less than 10 days to go until what may be the biggest event of the year. This weekend we've got a pretty busy Saturday.
Saturday 5pm TV - (3pm Fightpass/5pm FS2/7pm FOX) - UFC Fight Night Weidman vs Gastelum This card is weird in a couple ways, first its huge with a whopping 13 fights. I don't remember ever seeing that many before, but I'm sure somebody will collapse during weight cuts or something and it'll get down to 12. Its also branded a Fight Night even though the main card is on FOX. I assume "UFC on FOX" contractually has to meet certain ratings requirements for the UFC to get paid, but FOX probably liked this card enough and had nothing else going on since ratings season is over and said "**** it, we'll just take it". Anyway, its a pretty good card. All 4 fights on the main card are great, and there are 2 interesting prelim matches. 9pm - (Fightpass) - VFC 58 If the UFC hasn't satisfied your need to watch MMA, this card is scheduled to begin right after the UFC is over, probably running to midnight. Thats right, potentially 9 straight hours of MMA. I'm in for the first 6 hours, but are the last 3 worth it? Well, I dunno, its about average by local promotion standards, maybe slightly below average. Tuesday 7pm - (Fightpass) https://neulionmdnyc-a.akamaihd.net/...4/30024_ex.jpg If you have fightpass, aren't busy on tuesday nights, and are not watching this, then you are doing it wrong. It is Urijah and a drunken Snoop Dogg commenting on fights, thats all you need to know. |
A few weeks after the McGregor freakshow we'll have this.
I'm setting the over/under for PPV buys at...... 225k <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">UFC makes it official: 2 title fights set for UFC 215 <a href="https://t.co/zx3i3IssJW">pic.twitter.com/zx3i3IssJW</a></p>— Jason Floyd (@Jason_Floyd) <a href="https://twitter.com/Jason_Floyd/status/888136410611535877">July 20, 2017</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script> |

UFC 214 is almost here
Saturday 7pm TV - (5:30 pm Fightpass/7pm FXX/9pm PPV) - UFC 214 Cormier vs Jones 2 Unless a total disaster happens during weight cuts to multiple fighters, this will probably be on paper the best card of the year. If you only pay for 1 or 2 UFC PPV's a year, then this is it. For crying out loud, ****ing Cowboy vs Lawler is only the 2nd fight on the PPV. The prelim is pretty good, too. 8pm TV - (5pm internet stream/8pm NBC Sports Net) - PFL 2 I hadn't been including the Professional Fighters League, but I found out NBC sports is on my cable, so what the hell. (Anything on AXS TV is still dead to me) Their 2nd show is competing directly against Cormier vs Jones 2. lol, good luck with that. I guess they are hoping that die-hard MMA fans who are dead flat broke might switch after the UFC prelims. Sunday 8pm - (Fightpass) - Eddie Bravo Invitational 12 EBI is a submission-only tournament with no judges. Its pretty fun to watch if you like jiu-jitsu, and this time around the weight class is female flyweights. Tuesday 7pm - (Fightpass) https://neulionmdnyc-a.akamaihd.net/...0/30185_ex.jpg |
I'm so stoked for 214, it should be bonkers.

The entire main card has successfully weighed in. No one has missed weight yet, and they are only waiting on one fighter in the prelims to weigh in.
