2) Reid isn't the good head coach we thought he was

Like I said it is not out of the realm of possibility that Pioli may not be fired and still be in charge. I hope not but who knows..

"In charge" is a bit of a stretch from that transcript. He was basically asked if he felt that Pioli could be a part of the solution and Hunt said he hadn't ruled it out. But that it is all contingent on whichever head coach he hires.

Clark is likely doing due diligence here. He's probably got a short list of coaches he wants, and he's probably got a second short list of coaches Pioli gave him. He may end up interviewing both sets, and he'll probably go with whoever he himself has the most comfort with in a leadership capacity, rather than just some handpicked puppet that Pioli may want. I highly doubt Clark was very involved in the last two hires, especially when he said what impressed him about Romeo was that Romeo told him that he wants "to win a Super Bowl." That screams of him allowing Pioli to run the entire process last time.

My prediction: all the big names will turn us down (they also would have turned us down IMO had Pioli been fired, I just get a sense that the big names want to go to big cities or good weather cities or cities with a star QB), and we go down the Haley route and try our hand again at an ascending assistant coach, and Pioli sticks around.

I also think we are fooling ourselves if we don't think finances will come into play here, despite what Clark says. You're paying Pioli big bucks, you're still on the hook for two years of Romeo, you're on the hook for his assistants, and you're still in litigation as far as I know over whether you owe Haley the rest of his dough. I don't see a big name coach coming through that door...

Maybe Clark is making him ****ing work while he's getting everything sorted out. Just because Pioli is there doesn't mean that Hunt has had contact with the agent about Reid or that Hunt has spoken to Reid about the GM position.

If you were planning to fire someone would you bring them along to interview their potential replacement?

He's supposedly this egotistical ass, you guys think he would actually do this?

If he wants to keep his job and get paid, yep.

Or he could commit career suicide like you idiots are suggesting.

Or he could quit and forfeit the cash to move onto a different opportunity thats going to be no more than what he would get in KC for substantially less pay.

Okay.

There's been absolutely ZERO speculation that Clark believes Pioli eats and breathes football. ALL of the speculation is that he's keeping Pioli because Pioli has saved him a Union Pacific train full of cash.

Then it all comes back to keeping him on because all he cares about is money?

Pioli was doing both though. Look at the guys even he couldn't screw up on evaluations. Charles comes to mind. We got a great deal on him.

Reid is interviewing for GM?

siberian khatru 01-02-2013 05:30 PM

How did it work in New England? Didn't Belichick pretty much pick the players and Pioli handled contracts?

I respect what Petro has to say 90 percent of the time.

I respect what KK has to say about 2 percent of the time.
