So, big news made tonight in one tweet from Dana, but we need to be VERY skeptical about this because I think the fans are collectively being used by Dana and/or the UFC to pressure Eddie into signing a bout agreement. Also, we can't discount the possibility that Dana is drunk and talking silly shit.

@kylemuir17 @TheNotoriousMMA @Ealvarezfight not true it's @TeamKhabib
— Dana White (@danawhite) September 21, 2016
Uhhh.... wow. Random fan asks Dana if Eddie Alvarez is going to fight Conor for the LW title at UFC 205. Perfectly reasonable speculation, a lot of people are calling that shot. Dana says no, he's fighting Khabib Nurmagomedov, which holy shit that would be big news both for the fact that the Alvarez fight isn't happening, AND that looks like a HORRIFIC matchup for Conor. In that weight division, there is not a 155 fighter on the planet who I think would be a worse matchup for Conor. if he can actually somehow beat the Eagle, then **** it, at that point I think Conor can do anything. Because it looks like such a terrible matchup for their golden boy, you gotta think there are negotiation shenanigans going on. (or Dana is goofing off). Also, a UFC official quickly denied that anything is decided about Conor's next fight. |
The UFC has hired Mick Maynard from Legacy as their new matchmaker, Sean Shelby will be promoted to Joe Silva's role.

Reportedly the UFC sent bout agreements to Alvarez and Khabib for UFC 205 but they also had a deadline. Khabib signed, but Alvarez didn't so at the deadline they ripped that deal up and told them they are off the NY card and can fight at UFC 206 if they want. |
Oh, nice. Joanna Jedrzejczyk has been added to the 205 card. She's fighting that other Polish strawweight.

Just now looking over this card. Wow, this is pretty bad even by free card standards. Nelson vs Silva will be fun I guess.
|
That went about as expected. When I read about Lina I thought "hmmm, she might make it out of the first round, but thats it"
|
In the newest example of "never believe a God Damn thing Dana White ever says or tweets", Conor McGregor vs Eddie Alvarez for the LW title has been booked for 205. Khabib is unhappy.

Dana said that if Conor wins, he'll have to give up one of the belts. So, his reign as two-division champ would be short.

Jose Aldo is pissed, wants out of his UFC contract and out of MMA altogether....Dana said its no happening.
The fallout to this card is nuts... |
Eddie should win this pretty easily as long as he doesn't get hurt early.
Conor can only stand up for a couple of rounds. |
Quote:
I wanted him to fight Aldo again. Oh well |
UFC and Dana's decision to bow down to Conor, let him do whatever the hell he wants, and make him the king is going to backfire...they're pissing fighters off left and right and if Alvarez washes him he isn't near what he was before.
May be worth it in the short term but they're ****ing up big time.... |
Joanna Jedr.... what the hell is the next letter?
Joanna Champion has decided to switch teams, she is now training with American Top Team in Florida. She said she has no hard feelings for her old team in Poland, but felt that she needed to start training with an elite coach and team. |
They had the first UFC 205 press conference today, and it was pretty cool as usual. (starts a bit over 18 minutes in because they were late to start)
Funny moment, when Conor and Eddie were really starting to go at it, Dana quietly slipped in behind Conor and took away the Monster Energy can sitting in front of him. |
Khabib will fight Michael Johnson at UFC 205.
The UFC originally just wanted to pay Khabib to stay ready in case something happened to the main event, but Khabib insisted on having a scheduled opponent. |
Interpret this however you want. Nick Diaz tweets very rarely, so something probably happened. (GSP/Diaz 2 in Toronto?)

Schedule this weekend is pretty thin. We'll have UFC for the next 3 weekends in a row, so this could be a good weekend to take a break.
Saturday morning/afternoon is EFN on fightpass which is whatever. Russian/Eastern Euro MMA is not usually highly talented. UFC Fight Night is pretty below average by free TV standards, prelims on FS2, going to FS1 on the main card. Finally, there is Pancrase in the middle of the night on fightpass Saturday night/Sunday morning. |
lol, John Lineker failed to make weight again. He was forced to move up after missing weight 4 times at flyweight, and he just weighed in at 136.5 for bantamweight.

Any time you see a card led by 135ers you know it's probably not going to be good. |
The UFC Fight Night card on October 15 has been cancelled (or maybe relocated if they can find another venue on short notice). A lot of people are assuming its because BJ Penn dropped off (and thats the UFC's official excuse), but they would not have cancelled the card for that, Its free TV not a PPV, they would have found a replacement.
The Philippine government went nuts and told the UFC that they were going to conduct stringent drug tests on everyone, not just fighters, but trainers, corners, executives, production crews, UFC staff, everyone. And the testing was not going to be for PED's, if anyone failed a test for anything, even marijuana, they would seize their passport and haul them off to court. So the UFC obviously told them that they can go straight to hell and pulled the card. |
Josh Samman died the other day. Everyone assume's it was on OD of some sort but nothing official has come out that I've seen.

The popular conspiracy theory is that the UFC knew about this a few days ago, quickly decided they had to cancel but they didn't want a public spat with a sovereign nation. So they asked BJ Penn if he could play along by giving them an injury they can point to as the official reason (maybe use a really minor training injury that he was going to fight through).
100% speculation, but it makes sense, because its awfully convenient that BJ Penn was "injured" at about the same time they had to figure out a reason to pull the plug. |
USADA has decided to just give Nate Diaz a public warning for vaping CBD after his fight. Diaz mistakenly thought the in-competition period ended after his post-fight test (it ends 6 hours after the fight), so he technically violated the drug policy but since his post-fight test came back clean showing he wasn't fighting while altered, they decided not to do anything more.

I hadn't seriously looked at this weekend's full card until now. For some reason I assumed it was going to be weak since the UFC had to give Bisping his Euro card right before UFC 205, but now that I'm looking at it, this PPV is actually really sweet. Even if you dismiss the main event as Bisping's vanity victory lap (but Hendo can still knock him out so who knows), the rest of the card is really good. Its not UFC 205 (please stay healthy everyone), and if you are a super casual 2-3 times a year fan this card is maybe not interesting, but if you are a fight fan, then compared to the average PPV, the card this weekend is probably worth paying for.
Schedule (all times central): Friday EFN 53 (Day 1) (Fightpass) 11 AM - A 2 day event? Whatever, this is eurorussian fighting, its probably not going to be good, watch only if you have nothing better to do. Also, WSOF and LFC both have fights, I don't have their channels on my cable, so my caring stopped there. If you do though, then its probably better than this EFN shit. Saturday EFN 53 (Day 2) (Fightpass) 11AM - See above, watch or don't watch. Might be amusing, probably not good. UFC 204 (Fightpass/FS1/PPV) 5:30 pm, 7pm on FS1, PPV begins at 9pm Sunday There's a Shooto event in Japan, but its some kind of amateur competition and probably not streamed or televised, so lol. Nothing today, go watch football. The Chiefs are on a bye, so relax and watch other football teams for a change. |
The WSOF event is here in KC. I'm going and it should be good. Couple of hometown boys getting down. Jason High is under rated, David Branch is really good and Justin Gaethje should be in the UFC soon.

That Bisping Hendo fight was ****ing incredible. I had it 2-2-?, total tossup depending on how you score round 5 (and also how you score round 2).
That was a great way for Henderson to end his career even if he did fall short. |
Hendo punched himself out that first round.
He looked dead tired after that. |

No UFC for the next 3 weeks. This weekend's schedule:
Friday Combate Americas (Fightpass) - 6:30pm LFC 61 (AXS TV) - 9pm Saturday Cage Warriors 79 (Fightpass) - 3pm Sunday nothing, just NFL |
GSP just announced that he is a free agent, and has hired a lawyer to try and terminate his contract with the UFC.
lol, good luck with that |
hmmmm, interesting. GSP's argument is that he signed his contract before Reebok and he never signed the Reebok deal. He says he is entitled to be offered a fight without Reebok restrictions, and since they did not offer such a fight, the UFC breached his contract. (he also said he would only sign the Reebok deal if the UFC paid him what he lost in sponsors, but the UFC wouldn't do that either)
I guess I'll wait for the lawyers to tell us if he has a case or not. He is able to go to court because he's wealthy, comfortable, and doesn't need to fight. Everyone else on the roster needed the work and just signed the Reebok deal so they could keep working and get paid. |
The UFC disputes GSP's declaration that his contract is void and that he is now a free agent. Statement coming out soon.
Shocking, yes I know. edit: Quote:

Some more interesting details. The biggest problem is that GSP had a huge sponsorship deal with Under Armour for an enormous amount of money per fight, but he wasn't going to get that if he had to wear Reebok. UFC was unwilling to match that, they figured they had the contract and leverage, so GSP sat out until the UFC realized that they couldn't pressure him into signing the Reebok deal.
So, GSP started negotiating with Lorenzo Fertitta on a new deal that wouldn't give him everything he wanted, but get him closer to being made whole. When the UFC was sold, the new owners pulled the offer that Lorenzo gave to GSP. So, GSP hired a lawyer to look at his contract. The lawyer said he thought he had a case and gave the UFC a deadline to offer GSP a fight under the old terms or they would declare a breach and terminate the contract. Right before the deadline, the UFC asked GSP if he wanted to fight Lawler, but with Reebok. Ignoring the Reebok issue, GSP said that he knew Lawler was recently pulled from a card and wanted to take some time off, so they didn't even see that as an actual, real serious offer of a fight. After the deadline, GSP's lawyer informed the UFC that they considered the contract to be terminated and then GSP went on Helwani's show to talk about it. |
GSP didn't pick just any old random dude to look at his contract, GSP's lawyer has done a lot of free agent status work with the NBA and NFL

2 more weeks until the UFC's month-long blackout is over.
Schedule this weekend Friday B-league MMA or high-level kickboxing? You have a choice tonight. Bellator 162 (Spike) - 8pm Glory 34 (Fightpass) - 8:30 pm Saturday and Sunday There might be small promotions on the internet somewhere, but nothing really jumps out at me. So, football. |

Bigfoot Silva is done. He and the UFC mutually agreed not to renew his UFC contract.

For those who may have been following MMA news closely, you may have noticed that the UFC recently added an arbitration clause for fighters who want to dispute USADA's findings.
They did it because of Jon Jones and Brock Lesnar. They both want to appeal, and the UFC doesn't want to go to court, so they are doing arbitration. The reason is because they both presented supplements (or in Brock's case, a foot cream) that USADA tested and verified did contain the substance they popped for. However, they are not getting the Yoel Romero break, because Romero disclosed the tainted supplement he took in his prefight questionnaire before his fight, and these two didn't. Obviously thinking they could have went to every GMC in their town to find a tainted supplement, USADA wants to give them both a very stiff punishment, maybe the full 2 years. edit: arbitration will cost them both $55k to pay the arbitrators |
LOL, I'm watching the championship fight for the Glory show. The idiot corner for the defending champ forgot to give him his mouthpiece for round 2, and he just lost a tooth because of it.
|
Urijah Faber says he will retire after his next fight on December 17
|
After Joe Silva leaves, Sean Shelby will be the matchmaker for both women's divisions, and men's bantamweight through lightweight. Mick Maynard will be the matchmaker for flyweight, MW, LHW, and HW, which makes sense for the new guy since those are the 4 shallowest divisions with fewer fighters to juggle.
