Did 610 sports really report this?

610 Sports is reporting that the Kansas City Chiefs have offered Scott Pioli the job of general manager. Sources to 610 Sports say the two sticking points include money and control over football operations, specifically the coaching staff.

Money
It's unclear how far off the two parties are at this point. We don't know Clark Hunt's offer and we don't know Pioli's demands. But, if turning this team around is as important to Hunt as he's indicated, and if Pioli is the GM everyone hopes/expects him to be, then this shouldn't be a deal breaker.
We do know that Pioli was offered a 5 year, $15 million deal by the Seahawks in 2005 despite never interviewing for the job.
Power
According to 610 Sports, Pioli is seeking more control over football operations, specifically more control over the coaching staff. This likely means that he wants Herm Edwards gone if he decides to accept the job. Or he wants the power to make that happen if/when he's hired.

Former Chiefs GM Carl Peterson used to give his head coach control over his own coaching staff. Assuming Pioli does want Herm gone and Clark is fine with that, it's possible that the control over the coaching staff is referring to the freedom Peterson used to give his head coaches.

I can't imagine Clark Hunt will, after looking at the Chiefs the past two seasons, make this a deal breaker either. He's previously said he will ultimately make the decision on Edwards but some reports say he isn't likely to saddle a GM with a coach he doesn't want.

Okay gang, as many of you know I still have friends at the highest level in the Chiefs organization and have this info to share with full confidence: Scott Pioli is the new GM. His announcement will come Thursday or Friday at the latest. Clark and Scott are working out the finer points of his contract tonight (money & control), but the deal is sealed. Also, Clark informed Herm Edwards and his coaching staff that they will be released. All assistants can reapply through Scott.

I only share this information because I'm no longer with the team and it's fun to share that a new day is dawning at Arrowhead. Scott Pioli will quickly move to clean out the front office and hire a new coach.

The only info I have on the new coach is it will not be Kirk Ferentz from the Iowa Hawkeyes. Kirk coaches his son at Iowa and does not want to leave until his son graduates.

Mike Shanahan has contacted Pioli, but I don't know any info beyond that.

There are many TV stations here in KC reporting that Pioli is indeed the new GM. announcement by Friday.

Honestly, how can anyone believe that that is likely?

I can understand that, being that there's 2-3 pages of smack the 12 pages that where added yesterday go fairly quick.

I joined up when Phobia went over there for a while. They are like their own little WPI cult. If you speak out against the bullshit, the lack of "insider" information you get lambasted by every other member until you just stop your subscription because you suddenly realize you're not like these people, you forgot to drink the kool-aid.

FWIW, Adam Schefter (sp?) was on a morning sports talk show here and says he's thinking that Pioli will stay. :shrug:
