That's bad for the UFC, between him and Shelby they had a great team.

That's about the sum of it. That and never count on Cain Velasquez to make or break a card, never mention the word blow around Jon Jones, and never, ever under any circumstances utter the name Tito Ortiz in front of Dana White

Totally agree.

alnorth 08-31-2016 07:45 PM

Apparently there isn't any kind of issue between Joe Silva and Dana or the UFC/new owners. His decision to leave is simple: he wants to retire. His job is insane, he puts in at least as many hours as Dana, and after the sale he got so much money as a senior executive in the UFC that he figured he could retire at a fairly young age. So, its all amicable, he's staying on as long as the UFC needs him to transition for a few months, then he'll go enjoy his retirement.

alnorth 09-01-2016 02:18 PM

This isn't 100% done yet, but Helwani says that the UFC is working on a Cerrone vs Lawler fight for UFC 205 in New York.

We dont need to see GSP fight again, he just needs to stay retired. If this fight does happen I hope GSP cant land his take downs and Conner beats the @$#% out of him.

That would be a great fight to see. Lawler goes all out, Cerrone never backs down. It would be epic (unless Cerrone gets kicked in the body)

raybec 4 09-06-2016 11:28 AM

I find myself really hoping the CM Punk hype train gets derailed Saturday and I have no legitimate reason why. I never saw him wrestle, no personal fan of Mickey Gall. I just really hope he gets beaten into submission. Tap to strikes would be the best possible outcome IMO

It would be a lot of fun, but I don't think I could do it for long. Every jamoke in the UFC feels like they deserve a title shot. Very few fighters are willing to fight down in rankings without some type of incentive. It would be tough dealing with all the egos.

I love the Eddie Bravo tournaments. There was a 10th planet school in Springfield that I went to for a few years until I moved up here to KC. There's a school up in Platte City but that's too far for me to drive three times a week.

alnorth 09-09-2016 09:25 AM

Everyone made weight except for some random lightweight on the prelims. (probably not his fault, he's a last-minute replacement)

He made 170 on the nose.

Apparently Overeem was late to the scale and fined $500 by the Ohio commission. He was nowhere near the heavyweight limit, he just flat-out failed to show up on time.

alnorth 09-09-2016 02:04 PM

lol, Michael Bisping's first title defense at home in the Manchester Arena reportedly sold out in 6 minutes. Capacity is 21,000

edit: one thing making this a bigger deal is that the main event will probably be close to 5am local time, to allow for the US PPV sale. Because of the terrible local time, they were thinking it might take longer to sell out.

I really, really hope Werdum doesn't get KOed by Travis Browne tonight. Also, can't wait to see Reem vs Stipe.

alnorth 09-10-2016 09:24 PM

The jiu-jitsu brown belt strangles the white belt.

In other news, the sun set in the west tonight, and water is wet.

LOL this card

alnorth 09-10-2016 09:44 PM

If Werdum somehow loses this fight, I think he might be able to successfully protest the result.

Yeah, he sat on an obvious lead in the last round, so its understandable that the crowd might be unhappy about that, but they were angry with Werdum for continuing in that weird "I call time out, ref not stopped yet" situation which was bullshit in the first place because the ref is not supposed to stop the fight in that situation. Werdum had every right to keep fighting just like when Silva blasted Bisping when he was complaining to the ref about his mouthpiece.

mcaj22 09-10-2016 10:11 PM

they are booing Werdum and he's trying to say something that's important to him then they show a shot of Forest Griffin and that kid that thinks he can beat Cruz lol and the crowd pops

alnorth 09-10-2016 10:11 PM

Nothing personal Miocic, but you gotta be sacrificed to the Reem now to atone for the sins of your hometown crowd.

Exactly. His goal is to get that belt back. He's not risking a freak KO. He was still pretty active anyway, just wasn't going for the kill.

alnorth 09-10-2016 10:15 PM

I just realized that Overeem came out to the Pride theme. I was wondering why it was familiar.

Yeah, of course. The fight should been over and I thought Werdum looked impressive until that point.

He gassed himself on the ground then danced around for two rounds with a guy who didn't throw a right hand for two rounds. He looked nothing like a guy ready for the next Title fight.

alnorth 09-10-2016 10:25 PM

well shit.

Oh well, Miocic definitely earned that win. No hate for him, Cleveland doesn't deserve him.

alnorth 09-10-2016 10:27 PM

The first four fights were not good at all. That main event upgraded this PPV from "shit" to "a bit below average"

thabear04 09-10-2016 10:29 PM

When Overeem caught him the first time he should of just keep punching him instead of trying to choke him out.

Jerm 09-10-2016 10:31 PM

Werdum front kicking Edmund was the greatest....what a whacky ass night even by UFC standards....

alnorth 09-10-2016 10:31 PM

oh no, Overeem, you can't do that.

edit: nope, no ****ing tap.

Buck 09-10-2016 10:33 PM

Way to look like a jackass in front of a million people.

alnorth 09-10-2016 10:34 PM

Welll..... it was entertaining, thats for sure.

We did not see a martial arts clinic at all, but it was kind of fun, and funny to watch that silly shit in the last 3 fights.

alnorth 09-10-2016 10:35 PM

If he would have been correct, it would have been huge, and he would have been considered the shadow champion, but you CAN NOT accuse your opponent of tapping out unless you are 100% ****ing sure of it. If you are wrong, you look like a douche, and the UFC could not let him go with saying that they had to go to the video in front of everyone.

mdstu 09-10-2016 10:36 PM

If Overeem could take a punch, he'd be a devastating Heavy Weight.

alnorth 09-10-2016 10:41 PM

Its moments like that which make Rogan invaluable. His replacements probably would not have had the balls to ask for the video and demand that Overeem defend his accusation right then and there, in front of the world like that. They would have awkwardly concluded the interview and left Dana White fuming and ready to yell impotently at the media that he was wrong. Rogan did the UFC a huge favor there.

Absolutely, they have no idea right now how much they will miss him.

alnorth 09-10-2016 11:05 PM

CM Punk has a great attitude in the post-fight presser. He said his original plan was to start out in a lower-level local MMA promotion and work on his skills from there until he was ready for the show, but the UFC presented him with an offer that he just could not refuse. If he gets cut, he'll keep going.

alnorth 09-10-2016 11:25 PM

Listening to the press conference, wow. Mickey Gall is incredibly mature for his age, I'm more interested in what he can do.

He couldn't take a punch at light heavyweight either. Shogun KO'd him twice, Arona KO'd him, Lil Nog was a corner stoppage I think, Chuck Liddell KO'd him.

If he strikes first, he's got a good chance. But if a strike lands on him, there's a good chance he's done.

OSP vs Manuwa looks interesting, and hopefully they find a new opponent for Struve.

There aren't big names (other than Belfort lol), but a lot of those guys put up good fights

Depends on a fan's annual budget. For people who only pay for half the PPV's each year, yeah 204 is clearly a skip. I usually buy any PPV that I can sort of justify, and this barely gets there for me.
