Codes take space and people. Certainly there are situations where patients are transported, you can’t code in the field forever, but even putting someone on a gurney requires hands off the chest. You are trying to avoid gaps in compressions at almost all costs.

For most intents and purposes,
ACLS is the same in the ambulance, on the field, and in the ED.

Without return if circulation in the field, the prognosis is grim

The major positive for Hamlin is that he’s 24 years old in great shape and he received very fast medical treatment on the field. Really hope his brain and heart are in good enough shape to make a full recovery.

My dad was just telling me about a friend of his who had a similar cardiac incident about a decade ago, was brain dead (with doctors even telling his wife to let him go) and he ended up coming back conscious a few days later. You never know.

I'd like to hear the update from the hospital and then I need to distance myself from this for tonight

Paramedics generally know when its a "work to stabilize at the scene" and a "scoop and go" scenario. I don't know the particulars of your situation but it could very well have been the medics assessment that a hospital was needed for more technical intervention that could not be given by them in the field.

You and me both. Seriously thinking about a medicinal scotch, even though I know it won't help. Bad memories.

No, I’m just not a fan of teen girls passing along gossip.

Well, don't think this game is being played anytime soon.

I didn't think my opinion of the NFL with their regard for player safety could get any lower but here we are
