Harris already has 3 steals

It's a pretty good deal unless I guess you're only using it for the lesser non-conference games that aren't on national TV...... granted, I didn't sign up for it until they started carrying the NHL this season.

It's not even the monthly charge, I just don't want to have to sign up for another freaking monthly recurring charge that I have to remember to cancel.

My policy is one streaming monthly charge at a time and at the moment its YouTube TV.

:harumph::harumph::harumph::harumph::harumph::harumph:

Not that I have strong thoughts on the matter...

Actually, the most annoying part is there isn't any one way to sign up for all the ESPN channels at one place that I'm aware of. Either through Disney, cable, or a single streaming platform.

Yeah, I totally get it... it's all so ****ing reeruned.

I pay for Dish, but doubt I'll renew because they're basically anti-sports, taking a stand against insane fees from providers! ....which means I've been without NBC for two months and have used someone's YouTube TV a few times for SNF, haven't had Fox Sports Net in 2 years, other channels randomly disappear and reappear.

Seriously doubt I'll renew, but I've heard YouTube TV and others have the same contractual bullshit. I've looked at Sling, but you need both packages and it ends up being like $65-70/month last I looked.

I know a guy with IPTV and was showing it to me on a Fire stick the other day... picture looked great and it's like $15/month. I've resisted to go that route for some reason, but it's like every legit service/provider out there actively tries to piss off their customers. :cuss:

Hulu Live would be my best guess if there was one, but I don’t have it/am not sure.

ESPN+ and Hulu Live can be bundled for like $14/month, too.... which I find hilarious, because when all of the separate TV channels started going their own way instead of using Netflix, I jokingly predicted they would start bundling one day after they realized customers like having many channels for one price instead of paying $5/month for 80 different things.

Shocking.

Bearcat 12-07-2021 07:56 PM

Guess we should be talking about basketball though.

Who's this year's player that KCC hates and everyone else brings up every time they play well?

j/k, I know it's Braun.

Lzen 12-07-2021 08:15 PM

Braun having another good game.

Remy Martin looking like he's decided to commit to defense. I like it

Lzen 12-07-2021 08:17 PM

Ochai is just on another level this year.

CasselGotPeedOn 12-07-2021 08:30 PM

When is the last time that Wilson drove to the basket and didn't fall down?

Didn’t we lose a game on that last year?

So, Missouri Saturday. Better clean up those turnovers.

smithandrew051 12-07-2021 08:55 PM

I’ll be there Saturday. Anyone else going?

PHOG 12-07-2021 09:01 PM

Won't make it, but I didn't realize it is a 6 game series they signed up for.

BWillie 12-07-2021 09:01 PM

I expected Jalen Wilson and Remy Martin to be our best players this year but obviously its Agbaji and Braun. They are both playing at an All-American level. Ochai at almost POY level.

Well, since some of us don't have ESPN+ and don't do the free/shady streams, what else do we have to talk about.

Glad to hear that KU took care of business.

If YouTube TV had ESPN+ as an add on, I would sign up. I'm not actually that cost sensitive. Just annoyed. And I get Disney is trying to push their bundle like everyone else.

I know, I should go to the sports bar, relax, and watch the game free for $8 pints.

That'll show 'em.

Same. And if it's not for the greedy ****ing cable/satellite providers and so forth, my greedy ****ing ISP has a data cap, so if I streamed everything I would just end up paying those assholes more in the process.

Dish is currently the least of the evils for me with the most upside, but I'm also relatively picky in that I want NHLN and get some college hockey games, and will sometimes catch things on B1G and the ACC Network, etc.

Granted, if I dropped it and just went ESPN+ and YouTubeTV or Sling or Hulu, I'm sure I'd survive.

What is your cap? When I dropped the satellite a few years ago and went to all streaming, I was a little concerned about going over my data. But that has not been an issue you for me, even when wife was working from home during COVID and daughter was in school at home. I have Cox and theirs is like 1200/mo. The thing I love about the streaming services (my main is Youtube TV) is that I can drop them at any time and, unlike satellite companies, there is no penalty.

700/month, but they have several levels between 600 and over a terabyte.

700 isn't unattainable, but not easy to hit, either. They used to auto bump you to the next tier after hitting it 3 months in a row, but now at least "only" charge $10/100GB as you go over.

I use about 10GB/day right now and that's been with pretty light streaming lately, and 700 comes out to 23/day.... I also set my Fire stick and Netflix down to 720p, which isn't noticeable enough to care and I think saves like 50% data usage over 1080 (it's also on a smaller TV in the bedroom). I might be screwed if I streamed any 4k content though.

And yeah, the contracts suck, especially when they can remove channels whenever they want. Losing an OTA channel for all these weeks will probably be the last straw.... considering canceling the last ~6 months after the NHL playoffs are over, since the $20/month to cancel plus streaming options would be less than keeping it around.

With the amount of gaming from my boys & streaming from my girl (and myself on both accounts), we kept blowing by our limit. Finally figured out that Cox offers a $50 unlimited data plan and jumped on it.

If you live in KC that's a limited option for ESPN+ games. Maybe its changed since I accepted watching those at home, but when the whole deal first started I couldn't find a bar that had access to ESPN+ except for Johnny's Tavern and one local place where the owner is a KU fan and attached a Roku to one of the TVs.

Cox is ass.

I was so happy to move to ATT Fiber after it became available in my neighborhood. Cheaper, faster, and no data caps.

I have the reverse opinion.....

After years of having AT&T as our business phone line provider, I will never use them for anything ever again. So many issues that caused us loss of business over the course of 10+ years and they just didn't care.

I've been with Cox Residential since 1998 & they covered the cost to install fiber at our office. Have had minor issues & one major and they have always been quick to resolve it. Knock on wood, but I've had great experience with them.

The ISP side of ATT is pretty much an entirely different animal than the phone side, but if you want to continue to support Cox and their shitty service and plans, go for it. I only pay $60/month for Gig service and no data cap with ATT. Never have any slow downs or service interruptions unlike when we had Cox.

AT&T is AT&T as far as I'm concerned. I'm not talking about your standard residential/business POTs lines. We had four dedicated 24 channel PRI's run into our business. I've had what was their business level internet in our old office - I'm sure those speeds are more residential nowadays.

I'm glad you have good experience with them. I didn't and I won't go back to them. I've had good experience with Cox in general, as well as their customer service. To each their own.

Lzen 12-08-2021 07:44 PM

I'm pretty much with Mr Plow. My experiences with ATT have been shit. And I'm talking their internet. Cox, while not perfect, has been pretty good for the most part.

BigRedChief 12-08-2021 08:43 PM

Frontier fiber has a deal right now $79 for a gig. $50 for 1/2 gig. No limit on data. 3 year lock on price. $200 Visa card for signing. 1 year out you can cancel. 2 month penalty for canceling early.

Here too.

Had ATT for awhile and there were a few outages but not too many. But I know enough people that have trouble it’s not bullshit. And the Deere dealer here has ATT and one month they probably had 28 out of 30 days with some sort of outage.

I switched to cable, who is this tiny stupid regional **** of a company that I THINK buys their bandwidth from cox.

I think 3 outages in 5 years.

If I had a business that relied on internet (in town - at the farm we have one option) I’d get ATT and cable and a load sharing router. There’s no way I’d be naked with one provider.

Fiber or DSL on the ATT? Everyone I know who had ATT DSL hates/hated it.

We had constant problems with Cox internet. Slow speeds, service interruptions, and no urgency from customer support on any of it. When I'd call, they knew we had no other option because at that time Cox was the only ISP option for actual broadband in my neighborhood, and they usually just told me tough luck.

Exact opposite experience with ATT Fiber.

Okay, let me tell you my story of dealing with ATT.

Mine was DSL the first time. This was about.......I dunno.....something like 15 years ago. Seems like it worked okay for awhile and then when they started working to put in fiber in my city, I started having connection issues constantly. Probably not related, though, as that work was being done on the other side of town. Anyway, I just got sick and tired of going through trouble shooting on the phone and them just sticking to their script. At one point, I stopped them and said "I know all of this and I do all of this every time. Get off your script and listen to what I'm telling you." Still did not help. And I had techs come out 2-3 times to try to fix it and the connection issues would inevitably start up again later. That's when I switched over to Cox internet.

More recently, about 2-3 years ago, I was looking to save some $$ on my bills and ATT just happened to offer me a good deal. So, I thought that, hey, it had been over a decade and surely they have gotten issues cleaned up with all the new fiber lines and whatnot. So, I accepted their deal and dropped Cox.

When the first bill came, it was not what they had told me would be the price. The suckers did the old bait and switch. I tried to get them to fix this bill issue, even calling their version of customer retention. Nope, they wouldn't budge. At that point, I was just sick of their BS and said "Come and get your ****! And I had better not get charged for early termination." They even tried to argue that part but they did eventually give up on charging me with that.

After that, I was done with ATT. The only thing I still have with that company is my family phones. I was even going to leave them a few months ago but they gave me a really good deal to stick around and I did. And I'm still satisfied with that deal. ;)

Oh, and Cox even gave me a great deal to come back after leaving just over a month earlier. So, I came out ahead in the end. :)

One thing about that is that my service was fine for years before I started having problems. If memory serves, I had Prodigy and ATT may have bought them a few years later. I don't remember if the issues started right away or if it took some time but these companies that go buying up everything often times ruin things.

Data caps are evil. Having sat on the board of a small ISP, the actual bandwidth/data part is the cheapest part of being an ISP. The cost difference for the ISP if you use 700 GB or 1,000 GB is negligible.

Oh, I completely agree with you. With Cox, I do & don't have a cap..... they basically said you can get up to XXXX GB included, anything over we'll charge you $XX.XX per 100 GB. My kids were going so far over it - like this month we are at 1,489 GB for the month - that it was cheaper to just pay $50 a month for unlimited.

Which, you are right, that's charging for something that doesn't really cost much - but, then I don't have to worry about overage charges & being throttled.

Which is crazy. I could see doing it if they were your only option.

I get HBO Max included with my ATT Fiber, Gig speeds, and no cap. $60/month, and they'll send you $300 in Visa gift cards for making the switch.

Maybe Cox is better other places, but in Wichita, they are terrible.

Damn, mine is $65/month for the 700GB... think it starts at maybe $55 for 500 or 600. Hell, TWC in KC was $60 and didn't have data caps or threats of slow downs, so the fact Cox has caps and unlimited is so cheap is a no brainer, even given any bundling.

Reerun_KC 12-09-2021 09:27 AM

Can we send this to the media center and create a new KU basketball thread?

/asking a friend and the Jayhawks nation as a whole.

Reerun_KC 12-09-2021 09:29 AM

I have pioneer fiber and OEC fiber at the house.

Pioneer is 1gb for the house.

Oec is 1gb at the shop for the DCS sim and Golf Sim.

Okay now back to basketball discussions?

Only reason we’re struggling is because Braun /KCC.

Just looked at my bill - my base is $75 for 1,280 GB for Gig speed. So basically I pay $125 for unlimited. We are routinely double the amount of data usage so I really have no issue paying it. Especially since I use it for work as well so my business covers a portion of it.

I'm just west of you in Hutch - maybe it's the smaller market.

That's quite a bit better than their pricing was here when I left them. They wanted $125 for gig service, and a 1 TB cap.

Ah, makes more sense... was actually wondering if you were meaning it was +$50 on top of their base package, or else high speed internet with a cap for less than $50 would be pretty damn nice.

Get into your router and see if you can cap bandwidth on your kids' devices or block them entirely.... then tell them what you pay and that life is expensive, so pay up to be unblocked.

Profit.

It won't matter once we all move into your spare bedroom.

I like that. BYU also receiving votes. Cincinnati typically pretty solid.

Thankfully, we're going to see a lot of the first half without McCormack after 2 early fouls

KC_Connection 12-18-2021 07:30 PM

At some point we're going to have to have a discussion about how bad Jalen Wilson has been this year. 7 games in now and no signs of improvement at all. Has fallen off a cliff from last year's performance level.

Yep. He'll improve once we get to conference play.

Right now I'm more concerned with the passes and turnovers. WTAF?

Will he? I mean I guess there's only way direction he can go from here.

As far as this particular game, KU is getting outworked again all over the court. Very lazy.

Yep. They circled the date. Our guys are playing like they're worried about a girlfriend's pregnancy test.

Losing at home to a team that lost to Louisiana Monroe this week is not great.

Kensmil getting into foul trouble won't help SFA.

But our rebounding tonight SUCKS.

Ochai, Braun, and Martin sleptwalk through that half.

Wilson appeared to be getting some confidence back at the end of it, though. Hopefully.

That little run at the end of the first half was reassuring.

Only reason we’re struggling is because Braun /KCC.

Rural Douglas County, mile and a half south of Twin Oaks off K-10.
I have two ISPs, one primary, one backup... two others of you count my Verizon MiFi from work and my cell connection to T-Mobile/Sprint.

I am a bandwidth hog.

Best I can do is a low-end commercial connection via Wicked Broadband. Ubiquiti Rocket AC 300 as the primary (60-90 down, 30-50 up). I back that up with Starlink, up to 150 down now, but only 10 back up, and teaching I need to have the upload speeds for video, desktop sharing.

265 per for Wicked. 100 per for Starlink. But... both had 500+ on the equipment expenses.

And people wonder why I push for better rural broadband.

Just an embarrassing effort level in this game.

Yep. Streaky AF. Reminds me of the game Thursday night. Good! Bad! Bad! Bad! Good! WTF?

Hopefully we won't have to win this in OT.
