It never made sense to me. And the timing is suspect, to say the least. If Pascal had stormed off the set 'halfway through the season' that would have been either late last year or early this year, as filming on the season wrapped before the quarantine began 6+ months ago. And it's just coming out now, on the heels of the trailer and release date announcement? Right....

Since The Mandolarian is a big hit, Pascal's ego is getting in the way.

Frazod 09-21-2020 09:15 PM

Assuming this rumor is true, in Pascal's defense, it's gotta suck wearing that helmet so much. Perhaps much more than he realized when he signed up for it.

That being said, he's getting paid a shit ton of money to wear it, so he should suck it up and deal with it.

I think I mentioned it in one of the Star Wars threads but I spoke to Pedro last year in August, which is when he told me adamantly that he was not portraying Boba Fett, that he loved the role and loved being in Star Wars.

It’s difficult for me to take this story seriously when I saw and heard the joy in the man’s voice over being in Star Wars, and there’s no doubt they were already filming Season 2 at that point, so this isn’t adding up.

Yes, Favreau can be an asshole but he’s not going to jeopardize his own creation.

This is the biggest reason this smells like bullshit to me. It makes no sense for them to scramble and rewrite half the season when it would be so much easier and cheaper to just recast it.

I had a friend that worked on one of the Marvel films earlier this decade and asked "What was it like to work with Favreau?".

The first word that came out of his mouth was "Asshole".

Thats disappointing to hear. Ive liked his work even as far back as his 90s acting gigs like Swingers, Rudy and Friends, etc....

The guy has been responsible Disney and Marvel films that have grossed billions and billions of dollars and from my understanding, always runs a tight ship, which is important when given $200 million dollar budgets or $150 million for an 8 episode TV show, making it completely understandable.

And please note that I stated “On Set”, which is different than in his personal life.

I’m sure I’d be an asshole too with the weight off a $200 million production on my shoulders.

That's been the prevailing rumor for months.

There's also the possibility that TM is playing more than one role.

She doesn't fit the physicality of Ahsoka at all - she's way too tall, not that it has stopped other castings in other roles in other places. Just IMO.

But if not her, who else? A yet to be known character (obviously)?

She's only 5'7 and since Ahsoka's reached full adulthood, I doubt many people will question her physical appearance and height.

By all reports, Sasha Banks is Sabine.

Inquisitor? I thought they were all long dead.

Banks is only 28 years old so she matches up perfectly in terms of age. Plus, she's often seen with blue and purple hair, a staple of Sabine's look.

To me, she has similar shaped eyes and skin tone to the animated Sabine:

After watching Sasha Banks for years in WWE, I don't think she would have the acting chops for a sustained role in a mainstream TV show. Main reason I don't think she's Sabine.

That didn't stop them from hiring Gina Carano, who actually looks like she's "acting" at times.

I haven't received any information as to who she's playing but considering the trailers have made a deliberate effort to show that character, it has to be someone of lasting importance.

Yeah, but Carano brought some mainstream acting cred with her, at least. Movies, as opposed to promos on NXT or Raw or Smackdown. Although I think Banks has been involved in acting classes for a while, so maybe she'd deliver more than I expect.

I just don't see anything in the first promo that screams 'that's Sabine Wren'. The VO's talking about Jedi when she appears, and she's dressed in a way that would seem more appropos for that kind of character. I don't think 'subtle' or 'understated' or even 'blending in with the background' are color palates that Sabine uses all that much.

And, yes, Sabine is ALL over the promotional stuff lately. Or her graffiti is. I just don't think we've seen her yet. We also haven't seen Bo Katan, who we know is showing up, and beyond that it's pretty likely that both of them are involved in episode 5 (penned and directed by Filoni).

I just think the Sasha as Sabine rumor is just that. Youtubers started talking about it the day the promo hit and we learned it was her, and I think their connection (the same one you posted about age and hair...) Is tenuous at best. So like I said, my guess is former Inquisitor'/padawan/random force user.

We'll find out in the next 6 weeks, either way!

I have never watched even 10 seconds of wrestling in my life, so I don’t know anything about Sasha Banks, other than what I’ve read since hearing her name bandied about for The Mandalorian. I have no idea what her voice even sounds like, so I have no idea if she can act, at all.

Gina Carano is about as much of an actor as I am, which is to say not very much. She’s very “stiff” in her role on the show, to the point of laughable at times. In Chapter 7, the Mando recruits her for the attack on Neverro, she says no. Then, he appeals to her by mentioning an Imperial Warlord. Her “I’m In” response is so awkward and weird that I laugh every time and think to myself, “How many takes did they do before finally saying ‘That’s a wrap!’”?

It was epically bad acting. I suppose Sasha Banks could be worse but that would require a mighty effort, IMO.

Megatron96 10-14-2020 07:54 PM

Probably a dumb question, but what's the status of the show now? Are they planning on releasing the new season on time?

For that matter, what about any of the other shows, like "The Expanse," etc.?

It's all about the role, IMO. Your description of Gina Carano I agree with, but it fit the role I felt. Your description could also be used for Keanu Reeves, and yet I still love John Wick (the first one anyway).

Sabine is not a wooden character to me, so I hope whoever portrays her is not a wooden actor. I know nothing about Sasha Banks or wrestling and don't plan to find out. I guess I'll find out when the show drops.

Regarding the Cara Dune show that's been in development for several months, the most recent thing I read is that it's a team up show with Katee Sackhoff's Bo-Katan. Also heard that Cara has a more prominent role in Mando season 2 and that Lucasfilm execs expect her to be a fan favorite.

Most Action/Adventure and Comedic actors are just an extension of their personality.

We all know what we’re going to get with a Sylvester Stallone or Arnold Schwarzenegger or The Rock or Will Smith movie, just as we know what Eddie Murphy or Robin Williams or Steve Martin are going to bring to the screen. But they all have a massive amount of charisma, which is why we watch their movies over and over again, regardless of the “quality” of the story.

Bill Burr is just Bill Burr playing Bill Burr but in a different situation than a stage or podcast or on a talk show. But that can be said of 95% of all TV and film actors. We don’t expect those guys to “disappear” into a role because that’s not why we’re watching. We want to see them kick ass and for it all to end on a happy note.

So Keg’s point was spot on. He’s never seen Sasha Banks display any acting chops, which led him to believe she’d be playing someone other than Sabine, a character that was prominently featured in Star Wars Rebels for 75 episodes.

Dude, I LOVE Bill Burr!

I've watched every season of "F Is For Family" on Netflix and binge them the day they drop (Season 5 is the final season, which is a bummer but I'm sure he'll move on to something else). I've seen all of his comedy specials multiple times and watched every appearance on Conan O'Brien, which are ridiculously funny.

Burr was also great in Breaking Bad. The dude is a treasure.

I can't wait to hear Clay's reaction to this amazing first episode. Dude's gotta be in heaven.

No kidding. The whole episode was filled with references overt and not so overt to the original movie series.

Episode One was a Love Letter to the Original Trilogy.

This series is how every Post-Return of the Jedi TV and Film property should have been approached and treated.

I don't think it'll be too long before people just purposely blow off VII-IX entirely, although Solo and Rogue One definitely fit the narrative.

Red Dawg 10-30-2020 12:01 PM

It was a good start. Well made.

All the nods to the origins

I had to go to an Easter egg site to see who that was walking off alone in the desert of Tatooine at the end of the episode. Interesting.

Judging by the slew of reviews, reaction and easter egg videos I saw today that were completely overjoyed with the end of the episode, it would seem that you're alone on that particular island.

Call me Mr. Crusoe.

I guess I just didn’t want to see yet another resurrection.

Agreed. If that character is who it appears to be, there's a great opportunity to make him far more interesting than the movies ever did. Could be entirely worthwhile.

GloryDayz 10-31-2020 08:00 AM

We watched it last night, it was OK. I see the series' trend, Mando goes some place and has a deadly test to pass/battle to wage, and he does it by uniting people.

Yes, Its all classic western tropes.

Watched it last night too. Loved it! The budget for this thing must be enormous. It looks and feels like a big budget blockbuster.

Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano may have been accidentally confirmed by the instagram for the Indian version of Disney+, similar to how Timothy Olyphant's casting as Cobb Vance was leaked by the German.
