This is what actually drafting and taking a chance on a first rounder jumping up 17 spots in epic trade makes it fun. No body really knows. Everyone has opinion and everyone has to take a shit regularly in life or you get constipated.

Chiefs are constipated with Alex Smith need a laxative and let it go.

Patrick Mahomes II has potential to be Elite quarterback in the league or a bust. I will take a bet on the elite version by year 4 may take longer or sooner?

Still this is fun no matter what happens. We have somebody to root for to make this a respectful and feared team to play.

Yeah....I bet you know this from experience....because yeah, there were no 49er fans who turned on Alex when it became obvious that he wasn't gonna be the answer for them...yeahhhhhh...

If Mahomes ends up busting (and I obviously hope to hell he isn't a bust, and I think he will be good), fans would eventually become anti-Mahomes.

Don't act like you haven't been through that situation before. I'm sure when the 49er fans drafted Smith, there were plenty more optimistic fans in support of him the first couple-few years than there were in 2010. Or 2011-2012 for that matter.

A direct admission of what I've always said. People who bitch about the QB aren't REALLY about winning a championship, or even winning. They're about the 'excitement' of the draft lottery.

They make the lives of fans who are actually interested in building a winner miserable day in, day out, year in, year out, . . . on the pretense that it's because the Chiefs don't have SB rings, when it's really because they're itching to open up draft day presents and beat their meat about how exciting it will be.

False hope has been driving this fan base for over 4 decades.

A drafted QB might be a source of false hope, but it's a different approach. Finally.

No that's ****ing bullshit. I believe in building a championship through the draft starting with the quarterback. Of course it's a hit and miss but **** your retreads that have been misses time and time again and we know their ceiling.

I know, your like has forever bleated that the ONLY ONLY ONLY way to win a championship is to draft a high first round QB. And now that it's happened, you DIRECTLY admit that the real fun is simply doing the draft the way you wanted. If we lost we lose, if we suck we suck. We can just try it YOUR WAY again and again and again.

I too believe in Mahomes, probably more than most who jack off about him all day around here. But it has nothing to do with gambling on high picks at QB for the sake of excitement. I believe in Mahomes BECAUSE I believe in Dorsey and Reid.

False. We have tried it the other way for 3+ decades. SO finally we do it the way I've been hoping for 30 years and I'm stoked for it. If he fails then **** it figure something out I know there are other ways. Jeff Hosteler won after Phil Simms went down and he was clutch for the Giants but he was lucky enough for a wide right field goal for the win and LT defense.

Shit happens.

I have no clue why just because they happened to finally do it the way I want mean that I don't think other ways work. The difference is it hasn't worked so I'm just stoked it happened now and a good kid that has absolute potential to be a great/elite quarterback but I know that takes hard work and determination and all that goes in development.

I've preached developing quarterbacks for years.

How is it not fun to move up in a draft and get the quarterback your GM and HC have faith and conviction so that I can believe in the same quarterback?

Are we as fans not suppose to have fun in the draft and everything football?

It's fun to see we have a winner on our hands. I'm not looking at any other options. If it doesn't work out then I'll be wrong right up there with GM John Dorsey and HC Andy Reid. The difference I won't lose my job for being wrong.

it's not about being wrong if alex helps with a super bowl win. it's about not rushing someone into a position they aren't ready for, and securing options in the future whether it be salary cap reasons or production reasons. alex has done nothing to lose his position as starter this year. if he chokes the team has another option the year after. if he doesn't choke, the team wins, alex demands a high restructure on his contract and is then left to find a team willing to pay it. either way its a win win. :D

There will be every excuse handed to Mahomes... and that in and of itself is ok. That's typically what fans do for their QBs that they have hopes for.

The difference here will be.. the extreme hypocrisy in excusing this one, when there was not an inch of latitude extended to another.

You're right. I have seen it with my own eyes, as a somewhat former SF fan. It was and still can be hilarious to read people defend one with similar lines that they once condemned others for using on another.

If you actually think that, then you don't know me AT ALL.

My main beef has been that there has been a huge contingent obsessed with making certain that no Chiefs fan appreciates the hard work and determination that it takes, UNLESS it gets to the SB. Anyone who appreciates anything about the team until it wins a SB is 'content with mediocrity, and a midwest pie-wagon who only cares about stuffing their face in the parking lot and signing over the paychecks to the Hunt family.'

This broad sentiment has been distilled down no one who 'actually'cares about the Chiefs is satisifed with anything but QB, QB, QB!! And it's been further distilled into no one who 'actually' cares is satisfied with anything other than a high draft pick first round, Chiefs-picked prospect.

And I've been vocally supportive of drafting a QB, but just not drafting one just to say we did. That's why I'm actually more in Mahome's corner than his supposed fanbois. They don't know what Mahomes will be, and think that he is just a function of the franchise deciding that Alex had to go. I believe that the franchise still believes in Alex, but are aware he's aging. Most importantly, I believe that they think Mahomes is a prospect worth moving heaven and earth for REGARDLESS of how much Alex has in the tank. THEY are doing the hard work to build a winner.

But just as soon as these supposed fans who've done nothing but bitch for decades now [not that there isn't reason to bitch on occasion, I'm talking about NOTHING but bitch all day every day] get that draft pick QB, it's immediately 'eh, it was probably a reach, and it may end in tears, but isn't it fun to imagine if he's a superstar like the world has never seen while we're stroking our dicks in the offseason.'

How do we know when Patrick will be ready or not it's all speculation? He has the work ethic and pedigree to get himself ready. It may or may not happen this year. It's not rushing him if he and the coaches not us think he is ready. He has the tools in the brain and talent to get on the field this year.

No way in hell is that hypocrisy... we got one via draft... we got the other as an unwanted retread

Plus PM gets the benefit of the doubt because apparently it takes 5 years to learn this system.

A veteran even. It takes a veteran 5 years to learn a system that was supposedly compatible for him to begin with....a system that has been watered down to reciprocate for his limitations.

SDH - I've been here long enough and have seen enough to understand how CP works. As far as predictions.... I'm sure I've been full reerun somewhere down the line.

Bunch of Asshats calling people idiots ROFL

The difference is that after they had seen them play, their stance changed...

Everyone is wrong at some point.

You, on the other hand, have seen a guy play like a complete pussy, and still can't figure out that he's not good enough.

I was wrong about Tamba Hali when we switched to the 3-4, wrong about Tyson Jackson AND wrong about Alex Smith being good enough to hitch your franchise to.

But I wasn't stupid enough to stick to those beliefs.

Wow. You are a dumb mother ****er.

Of course you hold out hope for improvement in a guy in his early 20s, who has only played less than a handful of seasons..

WTF??

No.

Just No.

You don't win SBs without a franchise QB.

When you don't have one, it should be the most important thing on your team's to do list....to get one.

Do you think people will be clamoring for a 1st round QB for the next 3 seasons at least?

If Mahomes busts, then guess what the team's most important priority is....
You guessed it..

It's not that complicated.

This. Not one negative comment from the Alexsexual Asshat Association will be tolerated for a minimum of 5 years.
I suggest all CP posters who support Mahomes and loathe Smith's bastard fan club adopt this platform the instant Mahomes hits the field as the starter.

You're a precious boo and CP legend. Never change.

I feel the need to explain this again. I had selected Murray as the QB prospect at that time that had the most in common with Smith and was most likely to NOT upset the apple cart like Favre did with Reid and Holmgren.
I had no desire to see Murray as a starter, and the entire comment was a slight against him and Smith.
But, you know, Tigger gonna' Tigger.

This is still a bull shit post but never mind the laziness this franchise has displayed time and time again with getting retread quarterbacks in hopes to avoid the dirty work of developing our own from the draft.

Worst take Ive read in quite some time.

I quit watching the draft because of ASS11. Now that we might have a chance at a real contender some day my interest will once again be peaked.

Smith has had 2, maybe 3 concussions depending on your interpretation of events.

He is at risk more than other players.

It really did affect his equilibrium. I wonder if he is using "Helmet Head" helmet to counteract the effects of his equilibrium imbalance?

Several Chiefs will be testing out a new, potentially safer, helmet in training camp

Quote:

Conley won’t be the only Chief testing it out. He estimates that 10-15 players, including quarterback Alex Smith, running back Spencer Ware and center Mitch Morse, will all pilot the helmet during training camp. Not incoincidentally, all four players have had concussion, or at least head trauma, scares in games over the past two years. “All the test information on it has been great, and I’m really interested to see how it plays this year,” Conley said of the helmet. “We’re just people, like everyone else, and when football ends, we will have lives, just like everyone else and we want quality of life. And if there’s any way that we can extend or greaten that quality of life by wearing a different helmet that reduces trauma, we’re going to do it.

“Some guys want to look good, some guys want quality of life.”

Hopefully von Miller will take care of Smith for us.

Hell it's plausible Alex Smith gets concussed in pre~season and can't play opener and then wifey tells him to retire.

How soon is too soon before we would see Patrick Mahomes II if theyed actually start Bray for the season?

I think if push came to shove we could see Patrick week 6

I don't want Mahomes in the mix this season unless the coaches determine he is ready to play.

Watching Bray for a few games would be entertaining though.
