That gives the cavs about 20 mil.

From there, they have a few guys like Varejao, waiters, and Thompson who would undoubtedly be unloaded if they needed room for one player and they're each good for about 6 m in space. Cavs also traded for Brendan haywood so next year, even if the cavs are above the cap, they can cut Hayward and free up 10 mil. Cavs have tremendous cap flexibility to make a move for LeBron and still add to an already pretty talented roster.

Why would they get rid of Hawes? Seems to be an up and coming player

Melo, Lebron, Bosh, and Wade all essentially have the same max contract numbers. All can resign with their teams for 5 year 129mil maxes or with other teams for 4 years 96mil.

Kiimo 07-07-2014 01:14 PM

No the Heat have cap holds.

Edit: some other writer was wrong about this earlier in the week too.

Here's how max contracts are figured. Bosh if he leaves Miami can and probably will get the full 4 year 96 mil max from his new team.

Interesting. Could mean they think Bosh is gone but if the big 3 do return that is probably the most they can afford

-King- 07-07-2014 01:31 PM

The Heat are in trouble. Josh McRoberts and his career 5.7 points per game wouldn't get anyone to stay much less LeBron James.

If they truly have a shot at a max contract superstar, Hawes was a guy who didn't belong in their plans.

Granger is filling the Rashard Lewis/James Jones spot on the bench. Nothing more, nothing less.

Besides the Heat have this young guy that was stashed over in Australia this past season - James Ennis. Tore up the Australian league and so far doing the same in the Summer League. He is that 8-9 guy off the bench with some youth that Miami is looking for.

Yes - they have a $2.2m trade exception from the Joel Anthony trade and they also can move Norris Cole for another player.

But the deal is done with LBJ to the cavs.

CP said so last night.

RustShack 07-07-2014 03:09 PM

These deals still don't make the Heat better than set year, even if Bosh stays which it's looking like he won't.

It's been reported that the Cavs have been especially active in trade conversations, and insiders within the organization expect a big move soon.

LeBrons agent is pressuring him to the Cavs, his wife wants him to go to Cleveland. Cleveland is younger, more athletic, has more depth, and has a lot more assets to keep improving. His best shot at a dynasty and long term success is in Cleveland. Also winning a Championship(s) there would be a lot more meaningful and make him even more legendary.

Their bench looks the same or maybe worse right now. Have to see what other moves they make. McRoberts is a decent player but he has been on like 5-6 teams, Granger is finished. The problem is who is going to relieve James of his minutes? I know they are chasing Morrow but OKC is in the lead for him. I assume Ray Allen will return but they will still need to address their 2 biggest needs (PG and C). Unless they think Napier can be Rondo part #2

Exactly. Four straight Finals. The Cavs aren't ready for that yet. It's more likely that Lebron would go back in 2 years (assuming he only re-ups in MIA through 2016). Kyrie is great but he misses 22 games/yr. Wiggins hasn't proven shit yet. The kid's 19. He has to mature.

McRoberts is a younger, bigger, more athletic replacement for Battier. I think they'll add a vet. PG (Jameer, Blake) but I don't see them upgrading at C, unfortunately.

Granger is likely an end-of-bench guy.

LeBron also took the Cavs with a roster 10x worse than the current one to the finals, so it's a moot point. Not to mention LeBron is even better now than he was then.

Irving now > Wade now
Bosh is leaving
Who else do they have??

Waiters, Varejao, Thompson

Still not writing off Bennett who was hurt and had to deal with Mike Brown and a team that was disgruntled with the whole situation.

Oh and Andrew Wiggins. Not to mention we have the Heats first round pick next year and I even think someone else's.

Do people watch basketball? The heat were in the finals ONLY because of LeBron James. Put Lebron o. Any other team in the East and they would have made the Finals too.

If LeBron is on the Cavs, they are a better team than the Heat.
