Re-posted from the Scream thread:

Saw the new Scream on Friday night. Better than i thought. I didn't watch any trailers on it going in, but my wife is a fan of the original so we went.

Surprisingly better than i thought. It wasn't as good as the original of course, but it held its own. It made fun of itself, which was nice. It embraced some of the the things that were unavoidably cheesy and didn't take itself too seriously.

The plot twist was unoriginal. But the stabbings were brutal enough without being particularly gory or overly bloody.

Worth the watch if you're a fan of the franchise.

That does look interesting. Stephen Lang seems like a natural playing a creepy psycho killer.

Anything For Jackson is the first Shutter movie to come to mind. It came out a couple of years ago and was one of the most ****ed up/terrifying movies I've seen in quite some time. The plot doesn't do it justice

A sinister couple hatch a supernatural scheme to resurrect their dead grandson through a pregnant woman.

VFW is fun. Not a ton of substance but its super violent and styled nicely. I enjoyed it.

Its on Shudder for whoever was asking about Shudder recs upthread.

Finally got around to seeing Jordan Peele's Candyman.

I was a fan as a kid and was looking forward to it.

This movie sucked asshole. They turned Candyman into a social justice simp.

I knew there'd be social justice tones, but holy **** did they lay it on thick.

Candyman no longer kills those who summon his name. Now he just kills white cops and white people.

This shit was whack. No wonder it was on Amazon Prime for free.

Media is female now. Whatever.

I'm more worried about the property in the hands of Hulu/Disney.

It's effectively DISNEY that's making Hellraiser. Yeah. Get your mind around that...

Yes it appears Pinhead is a female now. It's odd that it's 4 weeks away from releasing and there's only a 2 second title teaser and a still image of the female Pinhead. You'd think there would be a bit more by now. Oh well. 99% chance it's terrible anyway.

Slow burn of creepy awkwardness that finally delivers with some biblical horror. Can't say I'd recommend it for everyone, but if you're into slow burns of creepiness that waits until the very end to delivery, it definitely delivers in a WTF was that shit kind of way.

7/10

It has a pacing and tone very similar to 'The Shining'. Psychological horror more than boo or blood. Starts off slow but when it gets going it's very cool. Some moments you just want to look away from the screen it's so uncomfortable.

Amazon is offering a 7 day free trial for Shudder. Pretty sure all they do is horror.

Not sure how this is getting as good of reviews as it is on Rotten Tomatoes. Saw it and it had a few creepy/jumpy parts but it was very predictable and just very meh in my opinion. I would say 5 out of 10 or maybe even a 6 out of 10 as it wasn't completely horrible.

ThaVirus 10-08-2022 09:28 AM

My only experience with the franchise was half-watching the original once a couple years back, but I liked the new Hellraiser.

Spoiler!

ThaVirus 10-09-2022 06:03 PM

The new Hellraiser is still on my mind a bit.

There was a scene with, I think, the Priestess/Pinhead: "What do you pray for? Salvation? One harmonious note without end? There is no music in that."

I thought that was a pretty cool line, even if the Cenobites are twisted ****ers.

So I spent the last couple days watching Hellraiser and Hellraiser 2: Hellbound.

I'd have to say, I think they were both enjoyable, but I did not like how anticlimactic the second one was when Kirsty (or whatever) was able to convince the Cenobites that they were people once. That felt really rushed and missed the mark, IMO.

Generally speaking, the Cenobites could have been more menacing. In both originals, they could be reasoned with and that took some of the bite out of the scare factor for them.

KCUnited 10-09-2022 06:45 PM

I watched Hellraiser 2022 last night.

I felt they kept true to the franchise which I respect but unfortunately for me that means kind of boring. Too much dumb story and not enough Cenobites ****ing shit up. The Cenobites are super cool albeit maybe a little too polished in this, but it just plodded along and under delivered imo.

Full transparency, Hellraiser is pretty low on my totem of horror. I admittedly lean much more stalk and slash than mystic horror so YMMV.

I thought the new Hellraiser movie was pretty boring to be honest. The first hour is just them bumbling around accidentally stabbing people with the box. You don't really even see the cenobites for the first half of the movie, and when they do show, it never really picks up. Also, why does pinhead have a lisp?

I was disappointed

This is literally scaring people sick.

While most horror films keep people up at night, slasher flick “Terrifier 2” is apparently so graphic that viewers are vomiting and passing out in their seats. Social media users shared their appalling viewing experiences ahead of the special release of director Damien Leone’s film Thursday.

The crowd-funded indie horror flick — which will play in over 850 theaters nationwide after initially airing last week — is the “Uncut and Uncompromised” sequel to “Terrifier,” a film about a psychotic killer clown named Art the Clown, Bloody Disgusting reported. In this blood-splattered sequel, the homicidal harlequin gets resurrected by a malevolent entity, whereupon he terrorizes a teenage girl and her brother on Halloween. Think “It” but with buckets more blood and guts...

Depraved horror movie causes viewers to vomit, faint in the theater

Holy sh*t this is nuts and awesome!! It's a throwback horror flick...pays excellent homage to those 70's/80's horror flicks gems you'd unearth at the now extinct mom & pop video store on vhs. Watching it on Kodi right now and it kicks ass!

Its not for everyone but for us horror buffs in our late 30's and up, I highly reccomend it!

Apparently Art the Clown has a pretty large cult following.

I watched The Terrifier recently and it’s pretty sick.

I was looking for The Terrifier 2 and came across a couple flicks called All Hallow’s Eve (1 & 2) which feature Art the Clown.

I watched the first one and it was super low budget but I can’t say it wasn’t worth a watch if you like shitty horror movies. I will try to find some time to watch the second one.

Pepe Silvia 10-21-2022 02:55 PM

I’ve been watching the Friday the 13th franchise. Jason got uglier and uglier.

rydogg58 10-23-2022 10:27 PM

Watched The Dark and the Wicked last night on Shudder. Talk about a depressing movie. It's about a brother and sister that come home to see their dying father off. It doesn't ever say exactly what is going on, but there's some paranormal shit involved that wants the dads body or soul.

Not a lot of jump scares, but I think the fact that you aren't sure what exactly is going on or why, adds to the hopelesness and creepiness factor. The whole dying dad is just a vortex of evil that sucks everyone involved into killing themselves. Like, literally the only things that live are the goats.

On a side note, there's a few other good flicks on Shudder right now. Summer of 84, Clovehitch Killer, and Train to Busan. Summer of 84 had a Stranger Things/Disturbia feel, Clovehitch Killer would be what you would do if you found out your dad was the BTK killer, and Train to Busan has fast zombies.

I tried watching The Monster last night on HBO. Fell asleep so many times that I finally just shut it off and went to bed.

It's about a young mom who I gather is a shitty parent, and her young daughter who hates her. I'm not sure where they were going late at night, but they hit a wolf or something and their car dies. I shut it off right after that and I doubt I'll try to finish it.

Ok, I finally got around to watching Hellraiser III and IV.

III was decent enough. It was hilarious seeing the newly made cenobites strolling down the streets of Manhattan.

Pretty jarring seeing that amount of smoking in this day and age. There might have been a solid 5 minutes of screen time in which none of techaracters on-screen had a cigarette in their mouth.

The actress who played Terry was hot as hell also. Shame what happened to her character though.

IV was a steaming pile of shit. What was it with the 90s and sending beloved horror franchises into space? They sent Jason Vorhees, Leprechaun and now Pinhead? Just garbage.

Heh, I watched the first one the other night. It was refreshing to 80's boobs.

From the trailer, it looks like they took any of the humor out of it and it's just a "The Ring" type gore and jump scare film.

The original Evil Dead trailer doesn't really have much humor in it either. Not sure it will follow the same play book but just thought I would throw it out there.

They had an Evil Dead remake back in 2013 that didn't have much, if any, humor and that one was awesome, I thought.

I am excited for this new one.

So this one ins't a remake and is also supposed to be more gore than humorous. They are running with the fact brought up in Army of Darkness that there are three Necronomicon books in existence.

This allows them to get away from the cabin and the first three movies being the center of the story.

As a kid I didn't know or catch any of the gay commentary going on in the flick. As an adult it's about as obvious as can be. There isn't really anything else being insinuated. And even though it isn't subtle it's a helluva lot better than a character preaching to the audience. I'd forgotten how goofy some of these were but they're still more fun than a most of the horror today.

Red Letter Media did a big show on the the whole series. I'd recommend it if you're a fan.

The entire movie is about coming out of the closet, Freddy was just the vehicle. Here is a review that describes it perfectly.

Balls to the wall horror eye candy, I might even rate it higher had it not been opening night in a packed theater that serves alcohol.
