I'm drinking Crown Royal rye tonight. I'm usually a beer guy but I have always liked whiskey and/or bourbon whiskey. I tend to crave it more in the winter time. Our local discount liquor (Devlins) has a fifth for $16. They've had that deal for a couple of months now. It's good whiskey for a great price.

Sipping an Old Weller Antique 107 tonight. Smells like red hots, tastes like red hots. Very smooth wheater profile.
|
Tin Cup is a great bourbon too...

Switched over to Wild Turkey 101 on ice.

Ray Lewis has a new Bourbon out ROFL

It looks like my drinking days are over. I was put on beta blockers ****
|
So...on a whim and a recommendation...I tried Early Times. Now it's not a bourbon because they use old oak barrels and not new oak barrels, so it's called Kentucky Whiskey and not bourbon. It's still not bad for the price...a 1L bottle goes for less than $20.
Since I cannot get any kind of Buffalo Trace - that includes the brand name bourbon or Eagle Rare in my ****ing government liquor stores, I'm reduced to this... Shame, really. |
Gotta say I'm a woodford bourbon. But Winter jack cold is amazing

Nah. Getting totally hammered each and every weekend, probably over. Why do you think you can't drink on a beta blocker? My dad has been on one for 40 years and has 1-2 whiskey drinks every night. http://www.health.harvard.edu/heart-...rs-and-alcohol |

Never one to have a beer or two after work. Usually just wait until the weekend and have a dozen. |

But I limit it to one night a weekend, and not every weekend.

Had some Elijah Craig 12 Small Batch with a steak for dinner. Now I'm enjoying a glass of Corsair Triple Smoke (not bourbon, I know). If you like smoke, Islays, etc. it's an excellent dram.

I'll probably go pick up another Buffalo Trace at my local grocery store tomorrow. Cheers! http://i.imgur.com/8V4fnfJ.jpg |

It was hot today. So had the bourbon over a giant ice cube. The theory is that is cools the bourbon but won't melt as fast, and thus dilute the bourbon, like standard ice cubes.

That’s where I aint gonna find them mother****ers! It’s aight, she go to bed at 10 o'clock and we just bust out the turntables like before right, and a potato sack, AND BUST DOWN THE MALL! |

KC United, you crack that open yet? I know you aren't a bourbon guy so I'd be curious of your thoughts. |

I do the same shit with beer though. I go out of my way to pick up all these limited release beers and can never justify the moment for popping it. Part of my 2017 resolution is to a) drink down the bottles that I have and b) drink fresh. |

Do you every drink bourbon neat? It's an acquired taste, kinda like why I still probably don't like IPAs....not enough experience. |

I got to meet with the rep for Tom's Town Distillery the other day, and try their vodka, gin, and bourbon. They were all three unique and quite delicious. Vodka had some body to it, which was nice. I'm not a big vodka guy, but this was pleasant and would be great on the rocks.
I am a hater on gin for the most part, but their's isn't a london dry style. It is sweeter and less juniper. Not good a dirty martini, but it would make a great Aviation, Last Word, French 75, and maybe even a negroni (I hate campari). Their bourbon was good. It is a 25% rye blend, so it sort of has that "spiciness". I like using rittenhouse for my sazeracs (or templeton rye if I want a milder one), so I probably wouldn't enjoy theirs in that particular drink. It was quite smooth though, and would be a good after dinner drink (neat/rocks). I am not their rep or own any part of their company, but I was really impressed with their product and love that they are local. Prices were very reasonable, and apparently they have tours of their distillery (17th and Main). Their style is awesome too. Prohibition era labels based on Pendergrast. They even bought the rights to his original design to stick on their bourbon bottle. Here is their site. |

I have done them neat, but I prefer them with an ice cube. |

Long time lurker, first time poster. Makers and water. Can't go wrong.

And I agree personally with you and even the high proof I'll keep neat myself, but I can see how some like to cut it. I'll cut some of my "shitty" bourbon by placing it on the rocks on a hot day though. Sometimes down here in the desert, it's not always enticing to drink a neat bourbon when it's 100+ degrees. Stagg Jr is ****ing hard to find here. It's crazy. |

I myself am not a fan of Maker's. It's not aged long enough to develop more complex flavors, IMO. Is Maker's 46 worth checking out though? |
Quote:
I use a stone on occasion to chill it but I don't like adding ice ever. Stagg Jr Hard to find here as well. Usually see it when I don't have a spare $50 bill in wallet. |

I drink whiskey neat 95% of the time, even in the summer. I never do ice, but I think my reluctance is that I don't like whiskey cold. I will occasionally do a splash of water with some cask strength stuff to open it up. I think adding water is a case-by-case basis. Some whiskeys open up and give you some different notes, others don't.
|
My ice maker broke, so it's Eagle Rare neat tonight...cant say that I'm disappointed without ice.

I would take Buffalo Trace over Bulleit all day every day even if at the same price. Not a fan of Bulleit. I dont get the love honestly
I did find a damn good blended Scotch on the cheap though, John Buhl. At $20 its a ****ing steal IMO. |
My buddy paid up his losing NFL bet to me yesterday. I don't know much about scotch but he says he loves this stuff.

The DoubleWood is easy drinking. It's got that Speyside character plus it's finished in sherry barrels, so it's smooth and sweet. Since you like bourbon so much, I think you'll like the Balvenie as well.
