Why do this on draft day? Can this benefit the Chiefs in trade negotiations for picks?...Why Today? Other than not the fact we are not on the hook for 14mil this season. or maybe they found out they cannot trade out and they wanted to get the deal done prior to dealing with the #3 draft choice. or they waited for Staffords deal to set a bargaining point.

Speaking on NFL Network, Mike Mayock reports the Jets are trying to trade up to No. 2 in the draft.
Mayock said his phone was "blowing up" with calls about the Jets' effort to land Mark Sanchez. They'd likely have to give up the No. 17 overall pick plus next year's first-round pick, if not more.
