About 4 hours until Lawler commits a war crime. I'd watch a Lawler PPV even if every other scheduled fight was garbage. Fortunately, this one has at least a couple other interesting matchups.
|
Bar room brawl in this second fight.
|
Here we go, last 3 should be good. Even if the next two somehow disappoint, Lawler always fights like a demon. He is terribly underappreciated, and not getting any push from the UFC.
|
I could hear Bas Rutten shouting "Liver Kick!" from here.
|
Very close round. Rose 10-9, I think?
|
Both of these chicks would get ****ing destroyed by Joanna.
|
That round was super close. 19-19, I think? I dunno.
|
29-28 for the Polish girl. If she gets fed to Joanna, it'll be ugly.
|
Oh my goodness, they announced the title fight. All-Poland title fight between Joanna and KK. Not sure when.

OK, this fight should be fun. Anything that includes Lawler is just madness.

UFC Title History updated for the end of July 2016

This is a bit of a sad day. With Lawler we had something going on but now he's out and Woodley.... meh, whatever. He's nothing special.

Nick Diaz's suspension is over today.

The Association of Boxing Commissioners has approved the proposed changes to scoring and rules for the unified rules of MMA. Vote was 44-1 with 1 abstention. NJ voted no, TN passed on voting. (4 states are not in the ABC) Changes will be effective 1/1/17.
We already know about the scoring changes. There are 4 major changes in the rules. 1) Changes to the uniform rules for women, not sure what it exactly is and don't care, but apparently Reebok's current uniform top is going to be illegal. 2) Heel kicks to the kidney are no longer illegal. Medical experts said that technique is not dangerous and most people (except NJ) believe that rule was silly. 3) Fighters will no longer be able to play the "grounded opponent" game where they put one hand down to stop knees and kicks. Two feet and one hand will not be grounded. Both hands would be grounded, as would a knee and a hand, etc. NJ strongly objected to this change. 4) Having your fingers pointed at the opponent and moving forward will be a foul. You either need to close your fist or point your fingers up. Currently, referees could warn fighters to close their hands but they couldn't take a point away unless there was an actual eye poke so fighters often ignored the ref. After this rule is in effect, the ref won't have to wait for an eye poke, they can take a point if you are not heeding their warning. New Jersey has said that they will not implement 2 of those changes to the uniform rules of MMA so for the first time in a long time we'll have a situation where the rules are different in one state vs another. |
Cyborg will fight some chick I have literally never heard of at a UFC Fight Night on 9/24. 140 pound catchweight

A fighter's union might actually happen. Today, a high-powered baseball agent (Jeff Boris) and a team of labor lawyers (including Nick Diaz's lawyer) who have a lot of experience working with player and referee associations formed The Professional Fighters Association.
The player's unions of all four major sports (plus MLS, lol) released statements supporting the Fighters union. They now need to try to get the fighters to vote to certify the union. http://profighters.org/wp-content/up...PFA_new-03.png Quote:

Conor McGregor said he spent about $300,000 on his camp to prepare for Nate Diaz.
High-level champions who get paid a lot will often spend $25,000. I assume he's flying in elite 170 boxers and jiu-jitsu black belts and coaches to help his cardio, but I still don't know how he is spending that much money, especially since he doesn't need help to cut weight. |

Just gonna make him look even sillier if he loses though. Edit: I don't guess silly is the right word. Nothing silly about losing to Nate. It's just gonna make a bigger statement if you say you spent $300,000 for training and still lose than it would have if you hadn't said anything at all. |
OK, who knows whats going on, but Jon Jones was all over instagram today, happy and optimistic, saying he's got good news about his issue with USADA, and that he'll be back in the octagon "soon".
If you are cynical, maybe his team found a supplement on the market that was tainted with what he tested positive for, and he was able to claim thats what happened, and he'll take a short ban. |
Does anyone take/took Judo? It seems like a fun sport to learn and would be useful for self-defense.

Shortly after finishing his ban for weed, Nick Diaz almost got in trouble with USADA today. He partied all night last night and this morning was about to go to sleep when someone showed up for a random drug test. Rather than comply, Nick Diaz got into a heated argument with him, saying he's got to come back in 5 or 6 hours because he just wants to sleep, and the USADA rep was saying that if he refuses to take the test, he'll eat a 2 year ban. Its unclear what happened after that, but eventually he gave them the sample.
|
Nobody wants to eat that.

Marijuana is legal out of competition btw (you just can't be high the night of your fight), and there's no reason to think he ever took anything else, so I'm not going to be circling it on my calendar. |

OK, I don't know what this cartoon series is, and I don't really get it, this is just beyond the line of "too weird" for me. edit: had to replace it with a link, the autoplay was driving me nuts |
crap, looks like that video was autoplay for some stupid reason.

We're just 4 days away from McGregor Diaz 2, yall!

Apparently all hell broke loose at the end of the Diaz McGregor press conference today. Twitter lit up. Not sure what happened until I watch it, but fight is still on.
edit: McGregor was a half hour late. Shortly after he showed up Diaz decided he answered enough questions and started walking out with his team. McGregor was yelling shit at Nate as he walked out, Nate threw a water bottle at Conor, and then Conor and Nate's team started chucking stuff at each other while Dana was trying to get security to get everyone out. |
lol, Conor on live TV is a bad idea

Francisco Rivera failed a test, and is blaming tainted meat in Mexico.

Nick Diaz is still suspended and will not be allowed to corner his brother this weekend because he still has not paid off all of his $100,000 fine. He still owes NV $75k

Dana White said that the NSAC won't stop the fight, but when they meet in September the state is probably going to impose "massive" fines on both McGregor and Diaz, and they might suspend them and/or make them do community service. Its going to be a big mess and a headache for them after this weekend. There is also a lawsuit brewing from someone who got hit by a bottle.
edit: the UFC has banned the entourage for both Diaz and McGregor from attending UFC 202. The only people who can be with them are their licensed corners. |

The guys who are trying to organize the Professional Fighters Association had a press conference today.
http://themmareport.com/2016/08/vide...ss-conference/ These guys are not playing around, they opened the press conference by taking a shot at Dana and the new owners for being unprofessional. Then they proceeded to give a very impressive explanation of their experience in sports labor unions and what they were going to do for the fighters. |

They currently have a policy where they will allow fighters to anonymously support the union until they get almost all of them, and only then will they reveal the membership so no one gets singled out for sticking their neck out early. They have really thought this out and brought up 2014 federal court decisions that would make their organization easier so these guys are obviously serious and on point. I don't think literally every other major players union would be coming out to support them if they weren't serious, and they do look serious. |
I'm not planning to put up a thread for the fights tonight because there is a Chiefs Game tonight, its just a month after UFC 200, and there are no title fights.
Still, it is a fantastic card, all 5 fights should be good. |
My picks:
Diaz KO R3 Johnson, Cerrone, and Lim all KO R2 Means DEC |
Holy Charlie horse

I seriously considered betting money on a sporting event for the first time in my life when I saw the odds for Diaz vs McGregor a couple of days ago. I am either going to feel extremely relieved tonight or be kicking myself for days. :D
|
what ARE the odds?
I'm sure McDouche is favored....which is STUPID! |

What's their head to head record?
