170 looks like a good home for Cerrone. He looks smooth and powerful. That Bosse O'Connel fight was crazy, best fight of the year so far. JoJo Calderwood fought like she was on a mission.

So Dana gets somewhere in the neighborhood of $380M and gets to keep his job. Life is hard.

alnorth 06-20-2016 03:25 PM

GSP just announced that he's ready to fight in the UFC again

alnorth 06-20-2016 04:27 PM

From what I'm reading, most of the money came from the chinese companies, but Robert Kraft and WME-IMG will act as the face of the ownership group. Dana White will be given shares in the company to stay on in his current role, and they will pick a new CEO to replace Lorenzo Fertitta. It looks like that could be Garry Cook who is currently running the international side of the UFC.

SAUTO 06-20-2016 04:46 PM

Dana needs cook over him.

I've heard cook thinks he needs reigned in

alnorth 06-27-2016 09:31 PM

I think I'd taken it for granted as an article of solid faith that Nate Diaz with a full camp is going to make Conor look silly at 202, but after reading this article, I can't help but think that maybe Conor just might have a small chance.

Sure, Conor won the first round, but Diaz later said his gameplan was to take the first round off to make sure he could go 5 since he had no camp, and Conor didn't win the first 8 minutes, Diaz looked good from the 6th minute on, before he rocked Conor. But, it sure sounds like Conor is obsessed and taking the rematch very seriously, so who knows.

USADA decided to lift Islam Makhachev's suspension, but they are still investigating his test failure. His case is complicated. The substance he got popped for was only added to the banned list recently, on January 1. He said he was prescribed the drug (Meldonium, whatever that is) from a doctor and he stopped taking it after it was banned.

USADA is not sure how long that drug stays in your system, but studies are ongoing. They gave him a choice to stay suspended or have it be lifted. The risk is that if they later determined that there was no way it could have still been in his system in April after stopping on January 1, then they will suspend him and he'll get no credit for time served under suspension.

UFC will have fights on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. 5 title fights. (well 4 title fights and a pretend title fight)

Thursday is fightpass only, but RDA is defending his lightweight belt against Eddie Alvarez. Roy Nelson is also fighting the black beast in the co-main.

Friday is the TUF finale on FS1. Joanna Champion is defending her strawweight belt, and not much else on that card unless you were following TUF and care about some of those fighters.

Jerm 07-03-2016 01:15 PM

Time to cryo freeze everyone until Wednesday....astonished there haven't been any new injuries.

Can't wait for this week, should be off the charts...

Dana said that DC is furious and very emotional right now. He REALLY wanted this fight to prove the haters wrong. Now, even if he does defend his title 2 or 3 more times, he'll always have to live with people taunting him that he's not the real champ.

Their protocol doesn't allow the to test the 'b' sample until after the initial hearing but I don't doubt their lab results.

I was actually just wondering that myself. Maybe so. Who knows, though. With the sale of the company, and the new ownership hinting at a more professional environment (I'm purely speculating based on the comment about reeling Dana in a bit), maybe Jon has finally burned the bridge. He has caused the company a number of major headaches over the last few years. Of course he's also made them a lot of money.

Apparently judging by twitter, Jon Jones is an emotional wreck. Says he didn't knowingly take PED's, trying to think of the supplements he's taken, etc. They are testing the B sample today. If that is positive, I assume we're gonna hear the old tainted supplement defense again.

In case anyone is wondering, he is facing a 2 year suspension.

My guess is that Jon Jones lawyers up, they start talking tainted supplements and the 7 negative tests, figure out a way to attack the lab, etc. Then USADA offers him a plea bargain somewhere around 1-1.5 years which he'll then accept. If his B sample is positive, his only move is to reduce the suspension as much as possible.

If he can make weight, that might be the best they can do.

edit: the problem with that though is Gustaffson's last fight was a title shot against DC, which he lost.

The rumor on the internet is that DC has agreed to a HW fight. That makes a lot of sense, he still fights, still gets paid, and if he loses, well he's not a heavyweight so he's probably not expected to win the fight. He probably would prefer to defend his belt against an opponent who he can prepare for longer than 3 days.

I think DC has made it pretty clear to Dana that he wants to fight since this will probably be his biggest payday ever, and there is no shortage of fighters willing to challenge him. It doesn't even have to be a title fight, if its heavyweight or catchweight thats fine, then DC can focus on a proper title defense.
