Was cooking fried chicken in a skillet with oil. Go outside to smoke come back and some oil had apparently popped onto the burner and then popped over to the trash can, which was next to the stove. I've since learned to not have a trash can full of newspaper next to the stove. Was able to get the fire out with the fire extenguisher.
