Is Smith a good blocker? I thought I had read that was a weakness for him.

We know he's willing and will stick his nose in. What we don't know is how it translates to trying to do that to NFL front 7 players.

He's not a super big dude, but neither was McKinnon. Technique will be important.

As long as he's willing, that's already half the battle. Great to hear, haven't had time to watch much tape on him. Really excited about what he can bring.

Interesting that Brashard went to Miami because of the coordinator then followed him to SMU and that coordinator convinced him to be a RB and now he's in the NFL because of it. Had he gone to Florida like he originally committed to, he's probably not drafted

Looking back, not as happy with letting Thuney go for Moore. Sure we got younger and saved a few million, but now we need Moore to play LG and Thuney was the best in the league.

Yeah this feels like that unless Simmons knee gives him issues. But Rosenhaus and others said he’d be ready for camp and Andy said that Simmons is “ahead of schedule”.

If his knee is fine, he’s your starting LT. It’s a top 15 caliber draft pick vs a day 3 veteran that has very limited experience.

I'm here to play Devil's Advocate, not because I dislike Simmons, but because they did throw out Suamataia last year as a rookie starter, gave him no help, and immediately pulled him and that was the end of it. I'm still scratching my head 1 year later wondering what the hell the plan was.

So as much as a trust Andy when it comes to line play, and I'll go along with Simmons starting the season if thats what he wants, I'm still going to be a little concerned.

Kingsley was placed in the worst position we could possibly put a rookie LT in.

He had 8 games last year where he wasn't penalized (same number of regular season games as where he was). The narrative with the guy has just gone WAY overboard.

So you’d be okay with the Chiefs keeping Jawaan Taylor after this season?

With a $20 million dollar base, a couple of other options and critical contract decisions on the defensive side of the ball? Probably not.

But lets say Simmons ends up not being sound. Or Moore can't transition to RT. Or Kingsley just...sucks. And Wanya is cut in a roster crunch.

I mean...if you could retain him at $19 million in 'extra' cash (the rest of his cap figure is set in stone) in an era where Dan Moore is getting $18 million/season -- well it's not the WORST thing that could happen, no.

I'd like to get younger, cheaper and better EVERYWHERE. But if those options all flame out and Smith plays this season on the tag so next year the answer is "Okay, you can retain Taylor at RT and fill that hole or Smith at RG and fill that hole at $25 million..." I'd just keep Taylor.

I loved our draft but I still dont understand why we don't make moves for interior OL late in the draft. It's one of the positions you can get tremendous value. Instead we seem to be content paying a boatload of money to trey while force fitting all our misfit OTs to play LG. It's not as much a complaint about this year as much as it is the many years where we really haven't made even a whisper ever since we landed the big 3 on the interior.

Left tackles at guard is the wave of the future because of so many teams playing defensive ends at dt on passing sets

xztop123 04-30-2025 04:39 PM

Also the way Reid runs his offense we may as well have creed and 4 tackles on the line.

Pass pass

Thats an interesting point. I had wondered about that too. And also think a lot about how we were just so outmatched in size versus the eagles. Doesn't help that thuney and caliendo both arent that big.

chiefzilla1501 04-30-2025 04:46 PM

My main concern is that I feel like defenses are really gonna triple down on stopping the run. We're no longer the hunted. They're gonna be ultra motivated to stop teams like philly. I could see defenses adding lots and lots of beef to the interior. Does that open up doors for some more traditional guards with lots or meat?
