If Simmons is ready to go, Moore is an option at LG despite what Reid said about Suamataia before the draft.

He talked about the bet 5 playing, too…

I figure that's what's most likely to happen if Simmons starts.

In the unlikely event that Simmons proves to be an immediate week 1 starter and the knee so sound that there's no an increase risk of re-injury or compensation injury, I figure Moore probably ends up getting run at LG.

It doesn't really 'block' anybody. It doesn't displace anybody. It also leaves the team free to continue to develop Kingsley as an OT should they see meaningful progress there.

Does seem like we've gotten awfully full, awfully fast. Reid typically keeps 10 OL at most, right? And I wonder if he won't feel a little pressure to bring that down to 9 given that we're maybe going to want to keep a 10th DL (though that seems unlikely) or a 10th pass catcher (6 WRs, 4 TEs as their UDFA outlay on Briningstool suggests they like him a fair bit).

I mean they kept 10 last year while only carrying 3 RBs. This year they seem likely to keep at least 4; possibly 5.

Simmons
Creed
Trey
Moore
Taylor
Kingsley
Nourzad
Morris
Caliendo
Hanson
Driskell

That's 11 -- 9 of whom spent last season on the 53 plus Morris and Simmons. Some folks like Esa Pole as a roster candidate to boot and I just don't see that as being terribly likely.

Somebody's gettin' cut. Maybe 2 of 'em. I couldn't quite figure out what they kept Hasnson around for all season last season. Or even Driskell when they obviously had no intention of using him.

As you go through the entire roster -- they just don't seem to have a ton of open spots.

I was going to ask if Humphries is still on the squad but it turns out he signed with San Francisco yesterday.

Thanks for the memories I guess.

I can’t get it out of my head that Kingsley Suamatia hasn’t played G since high school and in his first start in Denver, allowed only 1 pressure against Zach Allen in a must win game for them.

Allen is arguably the best interior pass rusher in the AFC not named Chris Jones and Kingsley handled him with no college or NFL experience at G. I can see why they were very happy with that tape.

It feels like Kingsley’s size, agility and strength give him an advantage there and his footwork, speed-to-power on the edge and hand technique issues are minimized playing inside.

His movement for a guy that big was his best asset as well, which I’m sure Andy will love for screens and pulling.

I think they really are high on Kingsley and it would take a major letdown for him to not start at LG IMO

Yea, I kind of think Kingsley to G is going to be a huge success.

At the very least, I'm not at all worried about it. I think he'll at worst be solid.

Yes, long-term, the POTENTIAL of a left side of Simmons and Suamataia is... tasty.

Athleticism, movement. strength. There's a lot to dream on, there. Like, best LT-LG-C combination in the NFL dreams.

Like I said yesterday, they've created possibilities.

Maybe Simmons plays his way into LT by midseason and you have to shuffle things around. If that happens, they will have competition available at LG and RT, which is a positive. They'll work guys through this and have a plan.

A fully healthy and 100 percent (or 98 percent) the same Josh Simmons is good enough to force his way in at LT in the middle of the season, even without an injury.

O.city 04-30-2025 10:21 AM

If Simmons doesn't start the year at LT, he won't play his way into it unless something catastrophic happens. Just the way Andy does things.

I don't know man. This is a very unique situation.

I wouldn't even attempt to make those kinds of assumptions this year.

staylor26 04-30-2025 10:34 AM

Simmons is a special talent. If he's out there wowing everybody like Mahomes at practice as a rookie, you really think they'll keep him on the bench?

I mean, I lean yes, but I'm be a damn liar of I said I was near certain.

O.city 04-30-2025 10:37 AM

Andy doesn't change OL combos unless things go awry

RunKC 04-30-2025 10:45 AM

Remember back in 2021 when we drafted Creed and Trey and Andy immediately made them both starters?

Yeah this feels like that unless Simmons knee gives him issues. But Rosenhaus and others said he’d be ready for camp and Andy said that Simmons is “ahead of schedule”.

If his knee is fine, he’s your starting LT. It’s a top 15 caliber draft pick vs a day 3 veteran that has very limited experience.

Well, when that authority has been to 5 Super Bowls in 6 years, and we're just a bunch of fans rooting them on, that seems to be a safe place to hedge your bets when nobody else really truly has any information to convince you otherwise. The only thing anyone has is that 31 other teams who don't have anywhere near the track record of the Chiefs passed on him. That doesn't mean a whole lot to me.

Andy Reid, Brett Veach and Rick Burkholder each have more experience, knowledge and expertise on these matters in their morning shits than all of us do combined, and that's just a fact. They are all thrilled to have him and think he's going to be fine. That's really kind of enough for me. They've been wrong before, and will be again, but I'm certainly not going to hassle them for taking a top 10 talent at #32, even if he does end up completely flaming out. I'll still take that swing every damn time.

You've been beating this same drum since before the draft. Time to give it a rest and see how things turn out?

with our new RB that can catch passes and block, we will be seeing more screens.

I’ll give it a rest when people stop mis-representing my position.

Deal?
