I don't want the school to fire Gates, but damn, FSU finding their coach sucks. Him leaving to go back there would have been a godsend. He has no concept of X"s and O's. That's why they were humiliated by Princeton, why they went winless in conference last year, and it's why their defense is an abomination that's going to lead to them losing five straight to end the year.
|
After their first three years in conference, Gates has one less win than Cuonzo Martin.
|
Because Missouri.

They are struggling at the wrong time...lost 4 of the last 5 and 6 of their last 10....that is not the way to be finishing the season and heading into the conference tournament and the Dance
|
They have been figured out and they can't adjust.

I haven't been watching any pressers but Tiger board said that Gates had been dodging questions about the defense for the past few weeks and they became worried. He obviously can't fix the problem.

Damn. Looks like they've firmly entrenched themselves into the mid seed quagmire of the bracket.

If he can coach people up, why can every team run a high pick-and-roll and get whatever shot they want? Why do they give up 50+ points in the second halves of so many games? Gates is a decent recruiter. That's all he brings to the table. The team is hopeless schematically. |
Are we THAT down on this team? No posts during a conference tourney game?
Guys - they relaxed. They let down. They made the tournament and took their foot off the gas. Tonight they played like SHIT. On a neutral site against a tournament team when the whistles were definitely not going their way. And they won by 12. It's a good squad. The tourney is a crap shoot but let's not shit on the season these guys had or just move on already. This has been a really fun team. They'll have their work cut out for them tomorrow. Sit Mitchell, get healthy, don't sweat the L. They're off the 8/9 line. Probably off the 7. Just don't get dog-walked tomorrow and mission accomplished. |
I'm guessing most are wondering what the hell happened to the defense. Most of the year, they were ok on half court sets, but had great O efficiency due to D/transition O. The MItchell's knee gets banged up...not a lot of mo ending the year, but a great turnaround.

We really need Mitchell. He has to be healthy for the ncaa tourney or we are in trouble. Struggled without a scoring threat down low. That was a good win last night especially with him out. Need grill to start hitting again this team goes as he goes generally and that’s the problem the last few games is he’s been cold.
|
They need Mitchell because there aren't going to be any more good games from Grill, teams are yanking and pulling on him every possession and the refs simply aren't going to call it. smh

His system is flawed. We're still not playing defense. I absolutely bought the initial explanation that he needed his type of players in the system for the defense to show up but it's yr 3 & it's still a problem. IDK what Gates is as a coach rn. I see the good & bad & DK how it's going to turn out overall. If someone came along & hired him away I'd have mixed feelings about it. I'd feel a lot better about it moving forward if we get to the second weekend which a couple weeks ago seemed like a reasonable expectation & now seems fanciful. |
Looking pretty outmatched early on. This may be a blowout.
|
Correction. This IS a blowout already.
|
Gray puts up an air ball on a breakaway layup.
|
Everything seems a bit quiet in here...is everyone nervous based on how they have played the last few games of the season and against Florida?
Unfortunately I think Mizzou has played themselves into the 7 vs 10 slot which means they will get someone who has nothing to lose. |

They may get hot for a game and shoot themselves to a victory, but their defensive shortcomings will stop them from making any kind of run.
The team is fatally flawed. I see them jumping out to a lead, then blowing it due to poor FT shooting and defensive breakdowns. Next year's team is going to blow. |
All it takes is for Grill and Crews to get hot again with how well bates is playing and we can beat anyone. The problem is they’ve been shooting terribly the last few weeks. It’s the tourney so hope springs eternal and I’m excited to see how we look.
|
I don't let it upset me anymore, I accepted a long time ago that Mizzou will never win anything.
|
|
6 seed vs. Drake on Thursday. I know nothing about Drake, but I suppose we can lose (or win) against anybody.
|
Mizzou is ****ed. A well disciplined and coached team in the first round with a roster of Missouri players with a chip on their shoulder. McCollum will clown Gates in X and Os.

Drake is good. Drake can win! |

I'm not going to shit my pants about Drake.
Sure, they can win. They're in the tournament, which means they are a quality program. The MVC isn't what it was 10-15 years ago, but it's a quality league. I don't know much about Drake. I know Garrett Stirtz is good and their best player, and also that Anthony Richardson, Tony Perkins, and even T.O. Bennett are all big, physical guards who can match his length and be physical with him. If Mark Mitchell is healthy, I don't think Drake has someone who can really match his size/skill/playmaking/athletic ability, and I don't see a pair of stoppers on the wing to handle BOTH Bates and Grill. It's a matchup Mizzou can and should be able to win. Xs and Os are great and all, but Jimmies and Joes win games. |
Quote:
****ing hell man, you're just way out on a limb there. They're not a perfect team? They have weaknesses? Well shit - fold up the program. Have fun patting yourself on the back when it all comes to an end. I'm sure there's something way better just around the corner. |
I'm really excited about how the bracket is laid out for us! We will kick the shit out of Drake.
Too many ****ing whiners in here. |

Yes they should best Drake.....but stranger things have happened. |
Expected they may actually make a deep run after all the promise they showed in the Alabama game. Unfortunately that team is absolutely nowhere to be seen these days. Now I'll be shocked if they make it past Saturday.
|
Looking forward to that Sweet Sixteen matchup against KU.
|
Quote:
Whining, miserable-life-having bitches, to be accurate. Team goes from zero wins in conference to a legit 6 seed that could easily make the Sweet 16 and you’d think they killed the sandy vagina brigade’s favorite cat. |
Quote:
In their last 12 they are 5-7.... Not exactly playing like they were earlier in the season. Yes....they should beat Drake but these are the types of games that produce the most upsets. And...their next opponent once they get past Drake is probably Texas Tech... |
Mizzou is screwed.
|
Quote:
Going 5-7 isn't just taking your foot off the gas. This is an old team that got lapped as younger, more talented teams jelled, and there have been no adjustments on defense to account for their flaws. |
Who knows
Entering the tournament red hot doesn’t guarantee tournament success. And we’ve seen teams (like 2021 UCLA) end the regular season very cold then make a final four run The tournament is a whole new season |

I doubt MU or KU make it to the Sweet 16...but would be fun if they did.
|
Don't worry. You will beat Drake. When everyone thinks you are gonna lose ot rarely happens.
It isnt like they are Norfolk State or anything. |

Was half ass considering making the drive to Wichita. Thankful I didn't waste my time if this is what they've got today.
|
Whos fat ass was that in the Levis jeans?
|
God damn this is pathetic. 23 God damn points at half time. They're just not gonna do anything to stop the only guy on their team that can score?
|
Our offensive philosophy seems to revolve around dribbling the ball for 25 seconds and then launching a deep three or turning it over. Not sure why we refuse to pass the ball.

28 points with 13 minutes left in the second half.
What a ****ing embarrassment this team is tonight. The offense is suppose to be the strength of this team. What a joke. |
I don't even know wtf they are doing. This is the most pathetic performance I've seen in a long time. Put the young kids in maybe they'll look like they're trying to win.
|
These guys gonna break 40?
This is ****ing embarrassing. They just collectively shit the bed. They'd have lost to a high school team tonight. |
What a crappy/predictable end to what could have been a really good season

You can't have two humiliating losses to double digit seeds that aren't in your same galaxy talent-wise sandwiched around an 0-18 conference season.
Gates is a nice guy. I'm glad he's not a lunatic on the sideline like Bruce Pearl. He's also not a head coach. He's a recruiter. |
Quote:
And you saw it on the first possession. Two guys passed up good looks to rotate the ball to someone else. From the jump nobody wanted to be the guy that took the shot. Well other than Grill, who can't hit shit. They just completely vapor locked. |

This isn't the elite 8. And nobody is expecting a national championship. This is house money for a team that didn't win a conference game last year. What the **** convinced you to play this game as though your family is being held hostage? |
LMAO Well, they looked on the way to gaining some momentum.
