If we our offering 27-28 mill a year, Chris is a fool not to take it and stay with the Chiefs. He increases his KC legacy which has long lasting effects (see Neil Smith) opposed to leaving, and the HOF becomes increasingly locked if we win another ring. Due to the above, I think Chris is signing and the Chiefs have an idea of when. He probably wants to sit out a bit of this hot nasty camp. I'm guessing he will sign next Tuesday...That is all.

He's already at 33 mil on the tag next year, so the new extension would start there.

The Chiefs are in a SB window, it's past FA/Draft so they can't fill that spot. A trade isn't really likely at this point this year.

It's kinda a ****ed spot for both parties.

I don't know but my guess is 30 million a year is probably over the max for his age. We will see but I won't rip Jones for trying and a lot of teams would jump to pay a player of his caliber that much.

As for long snapper, I remember Hank Stram had Bobby Bell as his long snapper. Bobby was an important cog on that defense. That's the value Stram put into special teams.

I also wonder if we will extend Creed. It would be very difficult if he chases the money. In my heart, he is the type of player who if he loves it here takes a discount. But that's just my feeling that could be completely wrong.

Creed is a much easier extension because the contract will be for his prime years of play like Jones current contract. I would bet the holdup on the contract is for the fourth or fifth year. We don’t want to be playing a 34 year old jones $30 million.

CJ gave Veach leverage by saying he'll be a Chief for life but other than that he needs to be a team player, take a 4 year 100 mill , Veach should make it fully guaranteed or what I expect will happen is he gets traded while he's tradeable.

We can still win a SB without CJ. We have Mahomes and that's what matters.

It's a team game. Yes having Mahomes makes things a hell of a lot easier but you still need other pieces around him.. we don't win the SB last season wout Chris Jones.

I'm sure something will get worked out. Sometimes these things take time..

I'm not.

Fans always seemed convinced that players will of course be reasonable or that the team will always stretch the cap. I mean I hope they do work something out. But by the time it comes to a hold out in the last year of a contract...

I won't be at all surprised to see Jones sign his next contract with a different team.

last year, correct. We had a hobbled Mahomes from halftime of the divisional round, and a recieving corps that was pretty beat up and we still won. I love Chris, but if we pay him more than $27 mill it's not worth it. If we pay him this year and we have to pay the tag nex year it averages out to about the same as signing him. We don't get the cap flexibility, but he may force us. Veach doesn't overpay for aging talent anymore and that's a good thing. Again, this gets done next week, but the fodder is fun.

Soren Petro has had a re-occurring wet dream for 2+ years now about trading Chris Jones, so curious who exactly is reporting this from 810.

Soren Petro now has a national slot on Sundays on ESPN radio - he's just as awful as I'd imagined. He said that Chipper Jones' real name is Andrew instead of Larry - he literally thought it was Andrew.

I accept CP apologies. I told you in March he will want too much money. Should have traded him last spring.

LOL. I usually refrain from these topics until I know SR’s opinion. My apologies if I’m wrong, but I don’t believe SR has specifically commented on the Baja Blast as of yet.

jettio 08-03-2023 04:39 PM

I think Jones will sign after training camp, but if, hypothetically, he misses games and game checks, are the Chiefs able to roll the unpaid dollars into surplus cap for 2024?

I think Jones does not mind missing out on training camp and also does not want to repeat what Tyrann Mathieu had which was play last year of contract.

But holding out into the year, hurts Jones on missed pay and fines and could help Chiefs with 2024 salary cap unless Jones claws back that surplus when he does sign an extension.

At this point, I really couldn't care less if he signs or gets traded. This holdout is ridiculous. The money that he's pissed away in fines is more than most people have to retire on. If his egotistical need to be paid Aaron Donald money means more than winning championships, then he can go pound sand with Tyreek and Veach can get valuable draft capital, then go out and sign Suh, Joseph, Blockers or another DT. They're out there. Spags and Cullen can figure it out

He may be out the door but Chris is an incredible player and an important piece of our D. I don't blame him at all for wanting to get paid his worth. He deserves a healthy payday, whether it's here or elsewhere have no idea. Fines are part of life in the NFL and the rules don't help on defense. As far as I know, he has been a model citizen in KC.

Oh yeah. He's been great here. I've always loved Jones. Don't get me wrong. But the holdouts just really gets on my nerves. And you here people say get all you can. It's millionaires vs billionaires. But it's not really that at all. It's the elite players vs the rest of the team. Veach spends every penny that he can up to the cap every year. Clark isn't going to keep any more money id Jones takes less. No, it's going to be the the solid players that aren't elite that are going to get cut or have to sign for less. Jones getting everything that he thinks that he deserves hurts the team. And that's why I get fed up

ThyKingdomCome15 08-04-2023 01:36 AM

No reason for him to get banged up in TC anyway. Then again, Kelce is out there.

The outcome of this wouldn't surprise me no matter which way it went. The guy has 2 Super Bowl rings and probably is looking down the road a bit further than a 3rd at pushing 30 years of age. But I'm certainly pining for a return of CJ.

Unless he gets kidnapped by Killer Clowns from Outer Space...then I'd be surprised.

The Tyreek trade hurt because of the talent lost. A CJ trade would hurt because of the talent, and the fact that I just love this dude being a Chief. I have a little more emotional investment in Jones than I did in Tyreek.

I got over Tyreek pretty quick, Jones would be another matter. That said, I still think something gets done.

Lastly, why do these ****ers always have to do the cryptic tweets?

O.city 08-04-2023 07:18 AM

What's the old saying? Pigs get fat, hogs get slaughtered. If you really want that $30MM and end up on the Saints or some shit team to do it, well.........

KC could have signed Jones prior to investing big bucks on Taylor. You have two FA on the oline getting top dollar. Thuney and Taylor. Its impossible to pay top dollar at more than just a few positions. Reid is another example. Big money for an above average but not great safety.

At this point KC needs to let Jones walk next year. He already screwed up this season by not signing thus KC could not ad another quality FA without the cap space needed from A jones deal. Let him walk and keep the younger guys on D. Keep Snead.

It's his last time to get paid. He's won 2 SB's.

3 million less a year over 4 years isn't nothing.

Yep

I'm good with whatever they decide to do tbh. Brett Veach and his staff have proven time and time again that they know how to find talent. Last years Tyreek saga was the cherry on top of a phenomenal 2021 class that gave us Bolton, Creed and Trey; all top 10 at their positions.

I absolutely love Chris Jones but I can see the value of doing a Tyreek like trade to get more draft assets and free up a ton of money.

Yeah, I don't have an issue with it. In the end though, we need force multipliers when it comes to the playoffs in January and February. Depth wins in the regular season, talent wins in the playoffs.

I hate letting said talent go over money when we've shown we can fill around it with the draft. But in the end, they know what they're doing.

Nobody is doing a Tyreek trade for CJ. Few teams have the cap space to do it this year, and by next year tag and trade won't be much leverage. We might get the same compensation by letting him walk, although a year later.

O.city 08-04-2023 09:04 AM

The Chiefs will find it tough to tag and trade him next year, because of the tag number.

Chris has got some leverage here.

3 years is a more likely contract with year 4 probably not happening. Thats only $4.5 million more after taxes. That $4.5 could easily be earned and more over a lifetime if he wins another ring, is a Chiefs legend forever and is in the HOF. Neil Smith will never be a Chief again...

They're not giving him a 2 year extension, it'll likely be 3 tacked on to this year.

AdolfOliverBush 08-04-2023 09:37 AM

Offer him $25 million per, plus a midget to carry his trouser snake for him 24/7.

CEH?

BossChief 08-04-2023 12:59 PM

I’m glad I’m not Veach with this decision.

We could still be dominant without Jones, but it will absolutely be tougher in the playoffs to win without him.

Omenihu, Karlaftis, Benton, Nnadi and Wharton can all play DT…but without Jones, our run defense will take a hit. At least imo.

Jones' hanging meat deserves someone more reliable.

Jones now has more leverage.

Not really. Jones will be with the team once the season starts. Doubt he's gonna want to just eat his $20M he's set to make. Although him holding OUT instead of holding IN means he may not be getting good advice so who knows.

They always knew Omenihu would get suspended...so no he doesn't.

He has all the leverage. There is no proven DL player for week one without Jones.

They also expected to have Jones deal redone by now as well.

How does Jones have any leverage?

Yes lets sit out real games and miss game checks and cost myself like 10 million dollars all ensuring that even if I can get to FA next year I'll be 30 and there will be questions about my desire on top of my age.
