Deal at Frys grocery store. Buy 2 for $14.99 each. A few weeks ago it was buy 2 for $15.99 each but I didn't get any. It's normally priced at $19.99 here. Alcohol is pretty cheap here anyway, along with food prices as well.

Dunit35 07-03-2015 06:41 PM

Some boulevard zon and new Belgium Skinny dip.

Ceej 07-13-2015 09:32 PM

Looking forward to Boulevard's Funky Pumpkin, Tropical Pale Ale, and Snow and Tell the latter part of this year.

Who can bring me some in GB?

I just put in my last day at my ramshackle place of employment today and worked out a deal where I will have a month off before starting my new gig. It's time to knock the dust of the fly line, hang some miles on my ATV, fire of numerous rounds and get my buzz on......Cheers!

$12.21 a pop, damn that's reasonable. I had to pull the trigger on two just to have them around for the rare times I want a Moscow Mule.

Ok this is either another Ned comment or you think I was poking fun?

I actually didn't know about a Montana Mule until Penguinz here told me about it and it's much better than a Moscow Mule since I am partial to whiskey and it's taste is stronger than vodka. I was merely helping a brother out. :thumb:

When I make a mixed drink (beyond pouring bourbon into a glass with a couple of cubes of ice), that's what I make. Though we call them Kentucky Mules. I suppose that means using actual bourbon instead of something like Jim Beam.

I mainly resort to this because my wife drinks nothing but Moscow Mules, so I always have the fixins on hand.

BigOlChiefsfan 07-17-2015 10:20 AM

Just an FYI - when they first started to import Vodka to the US, no one knew what to do with it. The Moscow Mule was 'invented' as a way to sell wodka to folks who were already used to 'rye and ginger'. Your bourbon and ginger is my 'go to', but if you folks like this blend, give the old rye and ginger a try again sometime. "Old Overholt" is a good cheap rye for drinks like this, worth keeping around. Look for good, hot ginger ale and add half a lemon.

If you run out of whiskey (it happens) try gin + ginger ale + 1/2 lemon. It was called a gin buck in the olden days. Stuff like this let's you make half a dozen cocktails with just a few ingredients.

BigOlChiefsfan 07-17-2015 08:43 PM

Just from what I do - 1.5 oz bourbon or rye + 1/2 lemon juice + 4 or 5 oz of good ginger ale, over ice. Change that to gin as above.

One secret to this stuff is finding a hot ginger ale - if you can find Blenheim's, give that one a try. If you wind up really enjoying ginger ale cocktails, think about buying 'local hi end' ginger ales when you see them.

BigOlChiefsfan 07-17-2015 08:49 PM

If you get real serious about your ginger ale - make some fresh ginger syrup to 'spice up' your cocktails. It's not too hard to do: http://blog.seasonwithspice.com/2012...le-recipe.html

Let me add that a lot of the 'new/fancy' rye whiskey on the market is coming from a big distillery in Indiana. They make the same juice, sell it to a marketer who puts on a fancy label and comes up with some snappy patter to sell the stuff. But it's all the same juice, just different labels. If you like rye (I do) it's easier to stick w/Old Overholt, Wild Turkey Rye, Rittenhouse, and Jim Beam. These have been around a while and aren't part of that marketing/Indiana thing. Your money is well spent when you buy these - it's real easy to pay twice as much and get that Indiana juice w/a fancy label. Spend the money you save on better ginger ale.

vailpass 07-17-2015 10:12 PM

Had a few N'Ice Chouffe, Belgian Dark Ales this weekend. It's a dark, so it's an acquired taste, but it's full of flavor. It's made with Thyme and Curaçao peel and it's 10% alcohol. Good stuff.

I think you made a solid choice if you're not 100% into dark (black) rums. I'd recommend you try it at a bar perhaps. I have other rums for mixing, these days I save the Kraken for the rocks...

BigOlChiefsfan 07-20-2015 11:39 AM

I'm a Kraken fan as well - see notes above about finding good ginger ale/making ginger syrup to boost 'mediocre' ginger ale. Dark rum and spicy ginger ale go great together. Add a chunk of lime.

One of my go-to refreshing drinks is a spiced Rum and Diet Dr. Pepper (and a lime). There's just something about the Diet Dr. Pepper over the regular too! In fact the better part of the neighborhood is keen to them now. But I will try you mix.

Just so you know (and you may already), it's called a Dark and Stormy if you're looking for a recipe. The actual recipe calls for ginger beer, not ginger ale. It's a great cocktail.

NewChief 08-01-2015 11:05 AM

My main drink these days seems to be a decent vodka (usually Tito's), ice, a touch of water, and a healthy amount of lemon juice. Dangerous on a hot day, though, because it goes down like water after the ice melts a bit.

I used to drink those on really hot days here when I didn't want a bunch of sugar. It's amazing how just a squeeze of a fresh lemon can cut something like vodka and make it pretty damn good. Good reminder on that drink.

Yup. Main difference, I think is that I put a large amount of lime juice in the bottom of my drink and mix with the vodka before adding the ginger beer in my mules. I think with a Dark and Stormy, use just add a squeeze of lime at the end, more like a vodka tonic with lime. Probably not a huge difference in taste, but I try to do thing "properly."

I agree. I use juice from two limes in all of my mules and I put it in the glass first. With the Dark and Stormy I'll juice half a lime on the top of the drink.

I was up at Bigfork, Montana at Flathead lake last week and the weekend and tied into some Flathead Cherry Ale. This stuff was fantastic, I'm kicking myself for not bringing home a few cases. A great ale with a hint of cherry. I just emailed them to see if any distributers around Billings carry it.

Yup, that shit's pretty legit. Used to buy a few cases every summer.

My wife's work has an owner with a cabin up there. He sends buckets of Flathead cherries down to Phoenix every summer.

Guess what I did with some of mine?

That's whiskey and vodka. :D
