(Well, and that it doesn't blow up. It's bad when it blows up.) |
Two minute warning
And away she goes!
It always amazes me how fast it gets to the point that it's practically horizontal.
Camera shots get better and better.
Stage separation successful. |
Pretty cool shot of the first stage floating away there.
Holy shit - real time video from the first stage!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wPYOtCFSLKw has a stage one cam onboard.
Stick it geeks!
Boom.
Yes! Another 5 x 5
Damn - they're getting good at this!
They might have recovered the fairing as well.
That view of the first stage thrusters firing followed by the entry burn was epic. I'm anxiously waiting on a gif of that.
Less than 3 minutes after this, it was standing stationary on a boat.
<iframe src="https://streamable.com/e/1216" width="640" height="360" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen webkitallowfullscreen mozallowfullscreen scrolling="no"></iframe> |
Looks like at least one of the grid fins got pretty toasted.
What their current recovery rate for the year? I know they were shooting for 70%, seems pretty likely now.
Payload delivered.
No "USA, USA, USA!" chants this time... |

Orbcomm OG2 - Landed at LZ-1 successfully. (success) Jason 3 - Landed on OCISLY, but leg didn't lock out. (failure) SES-9 - Landed hard on OCISLY. Made a big hole in the boat. (failure) CRS-8 - Landed successfully on OCISLY. (success) JCSAT-14 - Landed successfully on OCISLY. (success) Thaicom-8 - Landed successfully on OCISLY. (success) So they're at 67% right now, but the fact that they've landed three in a row, twice in the most difficult scenarios (GTO missions), bodes well. Now they just have to re-launch one... |
Sorry I missed it... Ugh...
Sounds like one of the legs may have taken (partially planned-for) damage on the landing, so they're a bit nervous that it'll tip over on the way back. Hope it makes it!

That's insane.

But, objectively we have to get to MAR's to develop techs on how humans survive on long travels and develop ways of producing food/oxy ect... |
Close-up of the base. Looks like the engines all are fine, so even though it landed hard on that one leg, it still held up.

Looks like it's a good thing they have those yellow railings on the side. It slid a TON to the side before they could get it secured to the deck.

I haven't heard that mentioned about the previous landing, but I think it stands to reason that each time the first leg down will likely have to give a bit unless it lands absolutely perfectly on all four simultaneously. |
Landing photos are up on Flickr. It's impressive that it was still able to land after coming in this off-level.

Regardless of NASA'a awesome achievements (in spite of Congress), that's one thing they could never achieve. Without cheap and ubiquitous space access, there is no chance of the common man seeing space. My Dad grew up thinking he may one day get to go to space, when the space race was all about manned exploration (well, manned patriotic achievements anyway). I grew up doubting my grandchildren would ever see space, thanks to the current vision of robotic exploration. SpaceX is taking us back to the vision of man wandering the stars. A rocket, and hopefully soon a capsule, standing tall after a powered landing is simply the promise that someone is again working towards manned exploration. My son now has dreams of going into space. While I'm not that optimistic, I have hope for his children. |

@SpaceX Next launch targeting June 15 for launch of the @Eutelsat_SA 117 West B and ABS-2A satellites. Launch window opens 10:29 am ET, 2:29 pm UTC |
Just a heads-up that we seem to be on track for a launch tomorrow morning around 9:30 Central. I'll barely even be getting to work at that time, so I probably won't be on much beforehand, but I'll try to bump it in the morning if they thread has fallen off the front page.
Another (yawn) barge landing for this one. ;) They'll be coming in hot again, so we'll see if they've really gotten the process down at this point - going for four in a row! |
Bump.
At about what point in the countdown do they usually start the live feed ?

Cool. Hope it all goes alright.

I'm sneaking a peek at this from the meeting I'm in.. LOL!

What a great video feed!

Three in a row launched with essentially no delays (aside from weather and such). Hopefully that means they're getting the process down with the F9 1.2.

I've mentioned it before, but it always blows my mind how quickly it basically looks like it's headed sideways.
This never gets boring...
A little hazy today, though.
Oohh...but there's our first stage camera! :) |
God, that separation shot is so cool.
Grid fins deploying!
Ho
Lee Shit This video is AMAZING!!! Suck it NASA |
And it's great that most of the presenters are younglings.
Huh - no live entry burn this time. :(
Is it there?
Ummm...
That doesn't seem promising...
I think it's standing... Yay!!
I may have jumped the gun with my optimism. I hope I was right... |
Crowd reaction is hilarious

Schrödinger's rocket.
I will say there was a shit ton of fire when the smoke started to clear. There's been a lot of fire before, so maybe that means nothing, but you hope that doesn't indicate it was on the verge of blowing up. :)

It's definitely there, definitely stationary, and definitely upright, so it's just a matter of whether it 1) caught fire badly enough to fail or 2) fell over for some reason.

Vehicle lost, apparently
Aww...landing go boom. :sulk:
Stage 1 lost
Damn, lost it.
I bet they just didn't want to have to figure out where to put another one. :)
