Watched yet another GREAT but unheralded movie on either Encore or Starz this morning... CBGB, the story of the coolest music club ever known to man.
Television, The Dead Boys, Blondie, The Ramones, The Talking Heads, Iggy Pop, Richard Hell... ALL of these guys and more got their start here because no one else would have them. Alan Rickman is GREAT as Hilly Kristal, the man was just eccentric and **** ed up enough to deserve what he got in the end, the man was totally dedicated to the music, even after the club became a landmark, he was still being a profligate spender, not paying attention to his books, not paying the bills, not caring what certain media circles were saying. He was an idiot savant teenager in a grown mans body IMO, just smart and stubborn enough to stick to his guns. The cartoon storyboard effects they use are cheap and unnecessary, they hurt the movie... but still, this is a great watch for anyone who loves rock n roll. Before I even knew what in the hell it was about, I wanted and got a CBGB OMFUG t-shirt Country Blue Grass Blues and Other Music For Uplifitng Gourmandizers |

The best thing I can say about Don Jon is that I liked it enough to finish it. The acting is great. Really convincing. The problem is that the characters are completely unlikable douchebags.

I'm sure I'll eventually watch it if im bored or something. |
I really liked Don Jon. And it got 81% from critics on RT, 61% from audiences. Just saying, those of you that didn't like it are in the fairly clear minority.

I watched it all, and it was mildly amusing. I didn't hate it. 1 star. |

1 star by all accounts would indicate hatred. |

Don Jon was trash. If that had anyone but JGL attached to it it wouldn't even have been made.
|
Don Jon indeed sucked balls. The only thing worth watching was Scarletts hallway scene.
|
Don Jon couldn't hold my attention with Scarlett and JGL. And I like both of them quite a bit.
August in Osage County was very, very good. Such a great performance by Streep. Random movie the wife grabbed from Redbox that she talked me into watching and I'm glad she did. |
Couldn't finish I, Frankenstein. Glad I didn't see that in theater like I originally wanted.
I really liked Goodbye World. It was different. Adrian Grenier and Scott Mescudi (Kid Cudi) were both in it. |
Bad words was an okay movie. Don't really like the end though.

I just saw Gravity. I thought it looked boring to begin with, But literally EVERYONE I talked to said it was really good so I gave it a try. I watched it and found it to be one of the bigger let downs in the last few years. I don't know what all the hype was about. No character development, they use a cheap ploy to try to get you to connect to Sandra Bullock's character who you don't really know that much about anyway. It's literally 2 hours of people floating through space with an occasional explosion. It was beautiful visually, but most movies are in this day and age. It was just flat out boring and uninspiring. Now, I know someone well go derp derp go see transformers then you moran!!! Well, it really was the same thing, visually stunning, but not with anything else to speak of.

Pain and Gain was really good.
The Rock was hilarious. |
I caught we are the Millers. It was funny enough to be worth the time.

We're the Millers was pretty funny but it wasn't phenomenal like everyone was saying.

And Aniston's still got it. |

There was a point to the story. Main character develops as the story goes on. Rare in movies these days but I like it... |

Is it me or was Grown Ups 2 better than that awful first one? As you know Sandler movies have been terrible for a while now but that was pretty watchable.
|
Quote:
You disagree? It was a really fun flick. |
Quote:
Definitely. I despised the first one. The second was actually kind of funny. |

No wonder Grown Ups 2 was good, Tim Herlighy wrote it. He used to write all of Sandlers best movies when he was actually funny, that explains it.

I was excited about and wanting to like Shadow Recruit, but the plot is so weak. I liked the principal cast for the franchise and they did well. Kiera Knightly was a surprisingly good casting decision. Pine and Costner good also, and everything else about it done well except for maybe Branagh's weak Russian accent and the story they were given was just kinda ho hum - but it was executed very well with what they were given in terms of a rather shoddy storyline.

I can't believe how bad Anchorman 2 was. The fight scene was ridiculous.
|

But, this was awful. I didn't even finish it. |

I didn't make it halfway through the first Anchorman, and I'm in the biz...

The Day The Earth Stood Still
Terrible movie. Don't watch it. |

The one with Keanu Reeves is probably the worst movie I've ever seen.

I think it had Will Smith's son too. That kid can eat an AIDS dick and die.

As soon as you think it's going one way it goes an entirely different direction. Great performances as well... |
Watched "Gravity" over the weekend. I had no idea what it was about. But, I enjoyed it.
|
The Railway Man was really interesting. Based off a true story.
|
Yeah, I had to stop Pain & Gain. Seeing The Rock walk around with a Mike McGill skate was too wack for me.
On the other hand, I though Rush was excellent. I found myself pulling for both guys which surprised me. |
Maximum Overdrive is such a classic.
|
anyone ever seen "Duel"?
older movie. everytime it's on (which is rarely) I always end up watching it. |

I remember watching it once, super late at night since there wasn't anything else on. caught it right from the get go.
some parts of it just creep me out a little. from what i took from it (FWIW), was the dude was an overworked traveling saleslman, who started seeing things / paranoid that weren't there. |
Who has the record for most movies made per year? Or just most movies made period? Nicholas Cage has got to be close. I need some research.

P.S. Alexa Vega is smokin. |
Just watched The Breakfast Club for the first time. Not bad for a 30 year old movie.
|
Watched Regarding Henry last night. Wow that thing can make me blubber.
Also Harrison Ford is such a great actor. I'm actually going on a Ford kick here now. Tonight, 42. |
