I found the previous movie from a reddit recommendation. I saw the following trailer for this upcoming Horror movie which I thought looked pretty cool, and somebody said "If that looks cool, check this out from the same writers!"

This looks cool too:

No clue what Barry is. The Bill Hader TV series showing up in search results? Good?

Yeah, very good. The blonde friend with all the questions in the trailer is a costar.

Barry is a dark comedy, but it's not so much about the comedy as the comedy just comes out in the narrative. Hader is a primo marksman hitman who happens upon a theatre class while escaping a hit gone wrong. He wants to leave the life of crime and be an actor after he has an epiphany in the class. And thus far it's him juggling trying to get out of 'the life' and shield his actor friends from it at the same time.

The blonde in the trailer is a fellow actor who he develops a crush on, and she has her own narrative about the depredations of trying to be a working/struggling young actor, and of course oblivious to his double life as they start to date.

If anyone was curious about this, it's a cheap teen jump-scare movie. Nothing original, no sense of "thrill". No particularly suspenseful moment. Full of cliches. The CGI is inconsistent. "Mary" can look creepy in one scene, and then cheap and low-budget in another.

If you're a horror fan you won't be impressed. If you like cheap jump scares you might be into it.

lcarus 04-13-2021 04:07 PM

I like Jeffrey Dean Morgan a lot. I was gonna check that one out just because he's in it. I hate cheap jump scare horror movies though so at least now I know what to expect.

KCUnited 05-16-2021 07:15 AM

For the Sake of Vicious was pretty entertaining

I'm mostly in it for the synth and violence so I probably enjoyed it more than most (although the synth ranges from great to overdone at times)

Psycho Goreman is close to being everything but needed a bigger budget in the kills and a much heavier synth. Otherwise a fun horror comedy.

Watched Superdeep on Shudder last night.

Basically its some Russians exploring a borehole and encounter an invasive fungus, or something. Boring as hell for 95% of the movie then gets kind of good towards the end...but only kind of.

I can't recommend it and the only reason I'm posting about it is Milena Radulović boulder smuggling in a tight sweater throughout. Unfortunately we never get to see them pups but she caught my attention.

That's a fun movie. Did you watch an English dub? It's funnier dubbed imo. I'm not sure if there is is an official release with an English audio track, but several years ago I made a custom job merging the dvd with the audio track from a vhs release. Copies may still be floating around some movie trackers.

More of the same except better. There's some first person filming that gets annoying but I pretty much enjoyed each story. There's some creative gore, actual funny parts, and unexpected twists.

Easily the best since the original and possibly the best in the franchise.

The Medium

Mockumentary team filming a particular shaman in a Thailand village and a bunch of crazy super natural shit pops off.

Possibly a little long in the tooth with complete brain shutoff required but really well filmed and acted. More horrifying than scary and has a couple truly ****ed up moments. It also flashes some brief but quality Asian titties as a bonus.

Recommended Asian horror.

This kind of information is what needs to be included in any quality review of a horror movie. I'm totally serious about this. It used to bug the shit out of me when people would upload a shitty horror movie to a tracker and not include screenshots of tits. I mean you click on a new upload of Lifeforce (1985) in the sure and certain hope of seeing Mathilda May's legendary rack and instead the closest thing you get to a boob is a pic of Patrick Stewart's head.

p.s. fwiw the best pair of titties I ever saw in a horror movie was in Brain Dead (2007).

100%

This movie was like 2.5 hours long and while enjoying it I spent 2.49 hours of it thinking about how great it would be to see her tits. Like every other dude watching and ~50% of woman watching.

If anyone were to go back and read some of my critiques of horror movies, lack of tits is usually called out.

Horror tits, gore tits, whatever you want to call them, they are 100% horror ethos.

An unfortunate Covid casualty was a video store around the corner from me that specialized in obscure and foreign horror dvds. They had an entire Sexploitation section that actually had really well made, albeit low budget, flicks.

Tits are undefeated and elevate literally everything. They're the butter on popcorn, the salt in food, the ****ing guitar solo.

Black Christmas (2019)

Frumpy 30 year old sorority girls vs the black magic (magic of color?) wielding patriarchy! Woke feminist horror with a PG 13 rating so you know it's gonna be super scary.

From the back of the dvd:

From the producer of Get Out and Halloween, comes a timely take on a cult horror classic as a campus killer comes to face a formidable group of friends in sisterhood. Hawthorne College is quieting down for the holidays. But as Riley Stone and her Mu Kappa Epsilon sisters prepare to deck the halls with a series of seasonal parties, a black-masked stalker begins killing sorority women one by one. As the body count rises, the sisters start to question whether they can trust any man. Whoever the killer is, he’s about to discover that this generation’s young women aren’t about to be anybody’s victims.

Needless to say, stick to the original 1974 version:

If you're a fan of the Paranormal Activity franchise then you should check out the latest one that released last weekend. You can stream it on Paramount+.

IMO it's one of the better ones of the franchise and wraps up the story nice and neat. It fills in some of the blanks that the earlier movies left as cliffhangers.

You've still gotta explain this one to me. I didn't see much connection to the other installments.

In Ghost Dimension, Toby was finally able to possess a real body, but that happened in like 2014 or something.

Spoiler!

Unless I missed a bunch of big things, there really wasn't a connection.

yep - enjoyed each one (I think there was 3?).

I watched Wisconsin Death Trip and Exit Humanity last night.

The first is basically a re-enactment of news articles out of the paper in a town from 1890-1900. It really makes you appreciate how much we have and how bad things can be. Horror because this did and can happen.

Exit Humanity is an excellent indie flick with a small cast and the premise: what if a zombie outbreak happened right after the civil war? It's really impressive what they did with a tiny budget and how they got around it. The Sci-fi channel should be hiring directors like this.

OK, we watched the second. It definitely came off a little lower budget than the previous. The girlfriend and I both liked it, but agree that the first was probably better.

It's kind of hilarious because these movies have a pretty reliable formula that always creeps me out. The camera pans across the room, everything is the way it is; as it pans back you notice something is off, not the way it was just a second ago. Maybe it's a manakin that was facing away from the camera that's now looking directly at us, or there was a shadow in a corner and now it's gone. Very simple but it gets me every time.

ThaVirus 11-29-2021 08:06 AM

Yeah a bit like Love+Death & Robots a mixed bag feels like each episode is or has been a pitch for a movie idea.

Yeah a bit like Love+Death & Robots a mixed bag feels like each episode is or has been a pitch for a movie idea.

I thought Love Death Robots was better than Oats Studios. But again, i don't recall that episode that was posted. Is there more than 1 season?

Looking forward to watching volume 1 now.

There is no season 2 and they haven't said if there ever will be one.

LMAO... we've all been there...

My usual is starting a series, falling asleep during the first few episodes, and the entire series finishes while I'm snoring away. Then it's an adventure to find the spot where I fell asleep...

Oh, and I also watched VHS 1994 or whatever. I didn't love this one.

I hated it. I can't believe it got some respectable reviews.

Idk if you’re into Mockumentary but I highly suggest Savageland, and Lake Mungo. Both those movies were a-****ing-mazing to me. My wife watched all of Savageland, and thought it was a real documentary. But she also thought Jackalopes were a real thing...

Lake Mungo was from the 3rd waive of the 8 Films to Die for Films. Super good movie IMHO`

The Black Phone looks insanely good (getting TONS of hype on Rotten Tomatoes currently sitting at 100%) Its from the director of Sinister (which I thought was an underrated horror film)
This film has Ethan Hawke in the villain role as the Grabber who kidnaps kids
This is Ethan Hawke as the Grabber

I'd post the trailer BUT I gotta warn ya it shows way too much of the movie so its best to avoid it imo. It looks really good (comes out June 22,2022)

Wow the children acting and believable makes this a remarkably scary movie.

still watching it but I recommend.

Also hell of a role for Glenn Close she is amazing actress.

Yeah I dug this film as well. Also I love Gemma Arterton and wish she'd get more roles (or at least bigger roles cause she's talented and gorgeous to look at) She is a classy British actress that doesn't play the Hollywood games and doesn't do the whole "casting couch" bs . I respect that about her.

That looked like it has true scare potential.

I watched this and was blown away and became Bette Davis and Joan Crawford fan. This I believe is more horrific than Misery and you have to watch it yourself to agree or disagree with me but it is worth watching.
I love discovering older movies that are ahead of it's time.

I also like Bette Davis in Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte but most other Bette Davis movies I tried to watch had to pay for.

I watched Alien for the first time last night. It holds up really well after 40+ years. The chestburster was great, even though I'd seen that particular scene several times. Even scarier was the airshaft part with Dallas. The creature itself is a bit silly at all stages.

"It Follows" is worth watching
