Oh sorry, I mis-typed "heart and soul of the team and super important"

Bill was the true dipshit in the equation

entitled nonsense

the death of college bb.

There needs to be some changes. Like, if you're getting NIL money, it's a two-year no-transfer contract, and you can't get the money until you either graduate, or officially enter the NBA draft.

It's sad what is happening to one of my favorite sports.

Kiimo 03-30-2025 08:20 AM

You can't get the money until you graduate is boomer dumbassery wtf man

I like the two year no-transfer rule though, but would need caveats. Like, if the coach bails the no transfer is null and void

My idea is to have players sign contracts just like coaches, complete with buyouts in both directions and opt outs if a coach leaves too.

Player outplays his contract at a mid major? They have option to renegotiate. Duke wants you? They pay your school a pre-negotiated buyout before you can go. School doesn’t want you to stay? They pay the player a buyout to separate.

NCAA just needs to stop pretending CBB has been anything but a semi-pro league for decades. Contracts for players, even if the money is coming from boosters, is over due. Two year minimum is best.

I miss seeing players develop at a school and then having mid-majors loaded with seniors who grew together and became a threat to disrupt the power conference schools hold on the F4, etc. Bill's best teams were combinations of 4-5 year players with talented freshmen.

I also said OR enter NBA draft.

I don't like the idea of a 19 year old kid getting tons of dough, while playing.

Kinda removes some of the urgency from playing hard every night.

I also feel like the contract has to include language about playing in the post-season as well (see all the College FB players sitting out bowl games).

Either they are student athletes - or it's simply a minor league for NFL/NBA, but the in-between place we're in right now is a joke.

Kiimo 03-30-2025 08:49 AM

That means you have to be good enough to get into the NBA OR have to graduate in order to get the cash you have earned. Both are a violation of a players' rights so you can enjoy a sport more.

It's boomer dumbassery.

I agree that this in between isn't fun though

I agree.

And honestly who gives a **** if they’re students anyway?

If they’re getting paid, I prefer they work on their craft to earn that money.

Spend more time training, less in class (that they likely rarely attend anyway).

Kids who want to, can attend classes. Makes sense for the ones who won’t go pro. Silly for Darren Peterson to pretend he will be on campus to learn.

I've totally soured on college athletics. If I wasn't a fan of a blue blood school like Kansas I would really just stop following it all together. Just destroyed a once great thing.

Kiimo 03-30-2025 10:15 AM

Destroyed a once great thing? Something tells me the 8 6 teams left would disagree. This has been a fantastic tournament. You're soured because we got knocked out in the first round like everyone predicted.

They need to fix some things but acting like it's already ruined is asinine frankly

One is a hero, one is just a chucker who shouldn't have come to KU.

"Chuckers" can work at Kansas if it makes sense on the team.

How did I predict AJ Storr would suck ass and did not feel the same about Remy then?

A few reasons.

AJ Storr does absolutely nothing well, other then volume score. He doesn't get rebounds, assists, steals, or blocks despite being 6'7". Remy could draw fouls better, he could pass waaay better, and was more active.

Storr was a 46% 2FG and he needed the ball in his hands a long time to do it. Remy was a 51% 2FG scorer and while still not great he could get the ball and make a play quickly.

Also while Storr was 8 inches taller than Martin, Martin was actually a BETTER rebounder. Per 40 min stats while at KU Remy was 5.7 rebounds vs AJ Storr at 4.3. That is incredible.

At least Hall is a chucker who can draw fouls and rebound. Along side a super efficient scorer and Dix maybe it wouldn't be too bad I just don't see elite KU so soon again.

We can't change the way we feel Kiimo. Im not the only one. And I felt this way at the beginning of the year last year when KU was still good. The game is too transactional. You don't see players grow within a program anymore. You can't count on anyone to stay.

Look, nobody is saying the players don't deserve NIL. The reality is the sport is simply less appealing than it was before. Just about every college fan agrees except you.

And that's exactly the core issue with Self's coaching style. He doesn't seem to be adapting to this Portal/NIL era we live in today.
