By the way, ELO has to be considered Yacht Rock, right?

They are great but definitely not part of Yacht Rock.

Here's a good Babys yacht rock song, "Everytime I think of You"

I like the first half of this song but it ends up getting ruined by the backup singers' histrionics. I hate, hate, hate that style of "singing".

I do like to sing along with it and replace the title lyric with "Every time I sniff some glue", though. :)

Made up sub-genres are so confusing.

See the guy in the top left of your video cover, that's keyboardist Jonathan Cain. I saw the Babys open for Journey in 1980 and they were fantastic, always liked John Waite's vocals, he had a solo hit in '84 Missing You. Journey had Gregg Rolie on keyboards and he along with guitarist Neil Schon founded Journey when they both split from Santana. All the early Santana hits were sung by Gregg Rolie, "Black Magic Woman" to name one. In '81 Gregg quit Jorney because he thought they were becoming too pop, so guess who Journey asked to join them, Jonathan Cain who had just toured with them in the Babys the year before.

Fun fact: Jonathan Cain is married to President Trump's "spiritual adviser."

So let me get this straight. Yacht Rock is for people to listen to whilst on their OWN yachts? Or is it music produced by musicians WITH yachts?

Always thought this stuff was just soft rock. (except for the real rock stuff on here like Edgar Winter)...

...and Neil Schon married the woman who with her husband crashed an Obama White House party in 2005 without an invite and got 15 minutes of fame. She then went onto one of those Housewives shows. She had dated Neil Schon 20 years earlier but dropped him and married this guy. She then decided years later to leave her husband and showed up on a Journey tour bus and her and Neil have been together ever since.

This thread reminds me of:

I will say I've never in my life heard the term "yacht rock" before.

I would just call these songs 70s soft rock.

This.

And that being said, no 70's soft rock thread is complete without a little Bo Donaldson.
