So you'd have to actually only endure 1 season of gtd money....a little more interdasting.

$8 million that they'll still need to pay for the MASSIVE raises due to Clark and Mathieu. Not to mention Hill and Hitchens (and say g'night to your Mahomes extension at that point). Even Okafor is sporting a $7 million cap figure next season.

This is the exact kind of thinking that led to Watkins to begin with. We can't just keep paying for this shit on credit.

No, Bell is not feasible at that figure. Even without Watkins, we cannot afford Bell at that number.

I'm no cap expert and not sure i'd even want this to go down, but 2021's cap space is looking pretty good. Couldn't they restructure potentially or backload Mahomes contract, spread out signing bonus and what not.

You can't make a $40 million/season contract 'very low'. It doesn't matter how you push the base salaries out especially since A) you're once again just buying on credit and will have to pay that piper in the following seasons and B) A TON of that money will be in signing bonus that can only be spread over 5 seasons anyway and then pro-rata.

If the Chiefs are EXTREMELY lucky and Mahomes signs a team friendly deal, it'll likely yield a year 1 cap hit in the $25 million range. From about $5 million.

Yes, the cap is absolutely a problem next year. And it will be a problem every year after that because we'll have the highest paid player in football on our team.

And they're almost certainly going to have trade Jones even if they DON'T acquire Bell. And where the hell do you then plan on finding 2 starting caliber CBs and 2 new starting linebackers? Not to mention a credible depth CB and replacing Jones AND Ogbah.

For ****'s sake people, pay attention to this roster and how the cap is going to shake out. This is insanity.

Those last touches starting a 3:45 are pretty special - and then the fumble :banghead:

VAGOMO 4 LIFE! 10-29-2019 10:47 AM

The one thing about Veach is that he’s aggressive as **** so if he truly wants Bell he will get it done!! Andy probably told Veach hey get me Bell and Veach is trying to strike something up as we speak!!

We've all known for a long time, the minute Mahomes gets paid we're going to have to rely on draft picks and scrap heap finds to fill some holes, no way around that.

When you're talking about a potential $200 million contract, there's no way to 'massage' the numbers.

Like I said, at best you'll get it to $25 million and that burn like a mother****er over the remainder of that deal as you're looking at $45 million cap hits.

Y'all are gonna have Mahomes running around with no line, Tyreek Hill and an aging Travis Kelce while having to put up 38 points/gm because we have no money left to fix the defense.

But hey, we'll have a newly rich RB who's in his decline years who ****ing quit on his team last season and was replaced by a 3rd rounder who was just as productive as he was.

Chief Northman 10-29-2019 10:49 AM

DJ is correct here.

If Veach/Reid get hypnotized regarding Bell, they severely cripple this team's ability to field a competent team down the road. Bell is a disaster waiting to happen.

arrowheadnation 10-29-2019 10:49 AM

and Terez plays the role of buzzkill again. He's saying it's "very unlikely" they deal for Bell.

Thank God for Terez.

Sassy Squatch 10-29-2019 10:50 AM

Reid told Veach to "get this team a LB" and Veach misunderstood him.

So maybe don't start by torching $14 million on an aging runningback who pretty much only ever cared about getting paid to begin with.

Because that money is locked in next season and everyone knows he's not seeing the 3rd year. I'm sure he'll really give it his all...
