It was okay, after 21 years the wife has decided she wants to start cooking. She has also gained 20 pounds and my grocery bill is going up as well.

She never cooked and I only cooked on the weekends. Now it's what do you want for dinner as soon as I walk in the door. Me, I want a beer, talk to me in a couple hours.

I'm not so sure about all this, but hey, I go with the flow.

The smallish flamethrowers? I want one.

Chimney starters are the way to go, or the Weber that has the propane starter for the charcoal. That thing rocks.

Fire Me Boy! 06-13-2015 03:08 PM

What's for dinner? Here's mine... (Part 2)

Anyone here grow garlic? My soft necks have fallen over, and they're down to about 2 green leaves.

Think this is ready to harvest? It's pretty small, but I don't know how big this varietal gets. I recall my seed stock was pretty small.

Might as well just buy a gas grill with a propane tank. That's what I used to have.

KCUnited 06-13-2015 03:35 PM

The charcoal wand is effective if your only outdoor space is combustible, like a wooden deck or balcony surrounded by shake siding where an open flame or embers could pose a threat. Otherwise, yeah, use a chimney.

Easy 6 06-13-2015 04:07 PM

Chicken fajitas... thinly sliced frozen (noooooo!) chicken breasts, onions, red and green peppers.

Chicken cooked on high heat with cumin, garlic and a bit of chili.

Onions and peppers cooked down with salt and black pepper... throw it all in a tortilla with a bit of asadero cheese, salsa, cilantro and voila.

Dinner for a drunk, gotta love it.

cdcox 06-13-2015 04:24 PM

I fried some morels that I found at fresh market. I forgot to photograph them before we ate them. Good but not as good as I remember them being.

Flank steak a little later. Looking forward to using a new serrated knife for slicing it. Will photo.

Fire Me Boy! 06-13-2015 04:26 PM

Chicken tikka masala. I'm headed out of town for a few days, so this is a big batch so my wife can feed on leftovers for the next few days.

I'm in the middle of a lentil, tomato escarole soup. Only making it in 92° weather because I'm spring cleaning and trying to use up stuff that's been around and should be used up. Hence my last of my lentils.

Just gonna have rotisserie turkey sandwiches with tomato lettuce and bacon with it.

That's a perfect hot outside dinner in my mind. The sandwich anyways. Soup can work. I'd eat it cooled a bit.

I looked at one of those on You Tube after I saw it mentioned in here. Honestly, when you tumble the coals in the grill the fire was streaming out of that sucker in a way I'd be too scared to handle. I'm a klutz for one thing and burn my self constantly just using an oven and a range. I'd probably trip and burn my entire face. That thing frightens the beejaz outta me!

Ta da....! Sorry I plopped the mat down funny and cut of the bottom of the Le Creuset but I was rushed. Composition is important to me—more important than the food. :p

I was outta parm because it was turning green. Too small too. So I did grate a bit of white NY cheddar per serving.

I was outta bread but had wraps...so I wrapped the rotisserie turkey BLT's instead. No pic. Too many ooo's and ahhh's coming with the hockey game. Go Bolts!

Hickory smoked ribs and chicken today on the Weber GSM bullet smoker. Ribs were a tad over done, but the chicken was fabulous. Still working on mastering ribs. Practice, practice, practice.

Slightly over cooked for our taste, but it was solid.

I bought two small steaks, to go between three of us. About 3 lbs total. We probably would have had some leftovers. But I only cooked one of them, because my daughter is house sitting for a few days. My wife is heading out tomorrow, so it is just me and the other steak.

Tonight I went pretty simple.

I had a value pack of (6) 1" thick boneless loin pork chops. I marinated them for 48 hours in Lawry's Herb and Garlic marinade. Took them out of the fridge in the container and let them come to room temp. Then dried them off with a paper towel before I put some black pepper on them and tossed three at a time into a non-stick skillet to sear on both sides for about 3 minutes. Then I put them into a foil pan with the leftover marinade on the bottom to prevent them from sticking. I cooked them in the oven for about 18 minutes at 375 degrees. They were so incredibly moist, tasted delicious, and had just a tinge of pink left.

For sides I made two veggies: steamer fingerling potatoes with butter, mayo and horseradish as well as a Southwestern corn mix of corn, minced red, green and jalapeno peppers, minced onions, and a few squirts of sriracha,

I ate three of the six chops and a second helping of the veggies.

IT WAS A TASTY SATISFYING DINNER!!!:p

I know you've mentioned it before about your house not cooling down but the AC has no problem cooling to house off here, even at that temperature or higher. It was 80 degrees in the house after being in the pool. I put the AC on and an hour later it was down to 73 inside. I'm assuming decreased humidity or just the fact we have two AC units? Our insulation is pretty decent too.

That's good. Mine wouldn't do that in that kind of heat. I do need new insulation though.

BTW, does your tap water come in warm this time of year too? Including the washing machine. Past two years I literally put ice-cubes in my washer because I use cold water ( to not set stains) and I couldn't get any.

2300 sq/ft. It get's hot as **** here so it's needed (111 today). Worst bill during hottest month of June is right under $300. No different than heating bills up north in the winter. We don't use anything much from November-March, heat or AC.

You must have some good insulation and windows. Our house is 1,400 sq/ft and I just got the bill at $180. That was only running the AC the last 3 weeks and no pool pump. I was surprised it was that high.

Even though I have central AC, I do have to have a second smaller wall unit in the back bedroom as it's on the side of the house that faces the sun all day and is hotter. Tho' I usually only run it for guests who stay as they complain about being too warm.

I could the AV flow into the garage but don't. I have another wall unit in the garage where I had a hole cut out of the wall.

Yea ours it two full sized AC units with pool pump 12 hours per day. 78-79 degrees when home, 75 degrees at night. Our insulation is good and house was built in 2003 so fairly efficient windows I think. I definitely don't complain about our bill!

We have a disabled daughter that doesn't sweat and is terrible in the heat so I have to run it anytime the house would get over around 75. Sucks for me and even worse for her so I don't mind it much.

This will probably be last post for awhile, it's simply not worth it anymore lol. Stay cooking and being creative, I'll catch you guys on the flip side.

I'd petition to let you post in this thread and only this thread. That's as far as I'll take the Free Inmem campaign.

Lol I'm sitting upstairs with the windows open and attic fan running at the moment though.

Is this because the rest of your house is too cold? I am confused.

Fresh air buddy. My room is the entire second floor. Windows all around and attic fan running. Watching the royals. Doesn't get much better

That sounds peaceful. Rooms on upper levels of houses are awesome. Enjoy it man.

Oh I can still hear the screams coming from downstairs, and the dogs playing. It's somewhat muffled from the attic fan though.
