It's January 3rd. Where are your latest mock drafts?

Hell, I figured that you've submitted at least 5 tremendous Mock Drafts since the New Year.

Are they in the draft section (which I have hidden)?

Again, it's early. As soon as Reid signs the dotted line, I'm sure we'll be hearing more and more leaks as they come out.

I'd be pretty underwhelmed by Jauron. I really don't want to switch back to a 4-3.

Reid's a somewhat flexible guy. You'd think he would try to make the defense transition as easy as possible.

If rumors of ARI getting Haley were to get kick started, do you think Andy holds out waiting for Horton to get fired or just moves on?

Yeah I think we are better off where we are. We aren't going to fix the front 7 holes by switching. We know 3 guys at least that can play their positions well. I would much rather just try to fix the dline and get a new ILB. Its not that hard to fill that ILB spot. I don't even think resigning Siler is a death sentence. You can find a guy in the draft. Assuming they are able to get a corner in the 2nd round you then just need a dlineman and safety.

I am not really as doom and gloom on this defense as some are. We need to hit on the CB we draft or sign though.

Monday afternoon: Woah! Hunt is actually taking an active role in the franchise? Big changes all of a sudden! Shit's moving!

Tuesday morning: Sweet! Hunt's already on the move! Got the Rooney Rule guy out of the way. Nice!

Tuesday afternoon: ARRGHH KIRK FERENTZ? DICK KOETTER? RAWRARAR YOU CALL THIS CHANGE? **** YOU HUNT. AND WHY ISN'T SCOTT FIRED YET?

Wednesday afternoon: Andy Reid? Okay, if you think so... ehh...

Wednesday night: WE'RE CLOSE TO REID? HOT DAMN! I LOVE YOU CLARK YOU MAGNIFICENT BASTARD!

Thursday morning: HOLY **** WHAT A COACHING STAFF THIS IS AMAZING! JIZZ JIZZ JIZZ JIZZ

Some life factors have kicked in, too.

But the fire they extinguished is coming back. But shit, it's going to take a while.

The thought of burning the 1st overall on Geno Smith doesn't get me too excited, but it doesnt' dampen my spirits like this franchise has systematically done since August, and to a lesser extent for four years.

NJChiefsFan 01-04-2013 02:36 AM

Yeah, the honeymoon will end eventually. There are things that Reid is going to do that bother me. I wasn't creaming myself over the thought of him at first. I am really excited now, in large part due to the staff possibility and the idea that we will probably try to groom a QB.

Game management is probably going to piss me off at times. Coach speak I can let go. In the end though there wasn't a perfect candidate in my eyes but this guy has had a great showing in the past. Sometimes you run out of time in a place, especially in the field of coaching. New surroundings in a different atmosphere could get him over the hump. We have seen it happen recently with TC and the Giants. Maybe it shows it was a perfect storm in PHI for Reid. Who knows.

I like our chances of becoming playoff threats down the road and we will just have to hope we hit on a QB to get us deep into them. I am pretty excited though. Its a unique time in our history when you consider some of the factors. It is possible however, that it ends in a not so unique way.

kcxiv 01-04-2013 02:40 AM

They just have to get the QB right, once we get the QB right, shit will fall in place all over the place.

We all know the main thing for Reid is to get the right damn QB. We need one that can ****ing play and wont fetal position it when he hears footsteps.

Our shitty QB's have forced everyone to play perfect. The defense can't give up points because the QB can't mount comebacks. Our offensive line can't give up any pressure because he panics. The WR's need to snatch balls out of the upperdeck because the QB has no accuracy. The RB's have to deal with stacked boxes all game. Everybody gets to breath a little if we get an actual quarterback. You don't need to play perfect.

Before you needed a WR like Bowe to get any production at all. Maybe not you don't need an all-pro receiver to get production. Imagine a world were a QB makes the other players better then they actually are.

mcaj22 01-04-2013 03:45 AM

how funny is this Trotter piece. Title is "Ex-Eagle Jeremiah Trotter blasts Andy Reid as a coach"

Quote:

Andy Reid currently is out of a job after being fired by the Philadelphia Eagles, though all indications are that he's close to becoming the next head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs.

Suffice to say, if former Eagles linebacker Jeremiah Trotter was advising the Chiefs (and why would he?), Kansas City might want to reconsider.

Here's what Trotter, who played seven seasons under Reid in Philadelphia, had to say during a roundtable on 97.5 FM The Fanatic radio station, via philly.com: "If it came down to both teams were even, talent-wise, I think the opponent's team would win if it came down to coaching. Andy Reid got out-coached in a lot of games, man, a lot of big games. Time outs, running the football, you know."

Trotter wasn't done there, either.

He added that Reid's in-game coaching decisions also indirectly affected games -- as in how it messed with the psyche of the defense and defensive coaches.

"As a defense, we understood we passed the ball too much," Trotter said. "You know, there's times we're sitting over there like, 'Man, listen. Just get us a couple of first downs so we can get a break.' And I'm sure it frustrated Jim Johnson also."

Trotter also rated Reid's coaching abilities on a scale of one to 10.

"On a scale of one to 10, 10 being great," Trotter said, "I give (Reid) a seven-and-a-half or eight as a coach."

In that case, never mind the Chiefs reconsidering. They definitely could use a "seven-and-a-half or eight" after the 2-14 season they just experienced.

So he "blasts" Andy as a coach (I use this loosely, because all he said was Andy passes the ball a lot... in a pass happy league, it is ****ing 2013, I am so glad to have a pass happy coach, because I haven't seen a pass happy Chiefs team since uhh, like 1993.) But anyway, "blasts" the coach but gives him a 7.5-8 out of 10 AS A COACH. LOL What the **** kind of scale is that...

his press conferences are

he will always defend players no matter how badly they suck (McCluster will be our Freddie Mitchell/Correl Buckhalter)

he will always take all of the blame never the players

a week later he will cut a player he just defended in a press conference contradicting himself

rinse. repeat

BradBigglestein 01-04-2013 04:12 AM

Even if you are mentally prepared, Reid will do things in the games that really have you scratching your head or get on your nerves. But he does a lot of things incredibly well too, so it balances out.

I highly suggest not watching press conferences though. If anyone on this website is a fan who watches every second of every press conference, start finding other things to do to fill that time now. I don't think you'll make it past two of them before wanting to take a power drill to your temple.

Assuming he is hired, he is going to be really funny and affable in the introductory press conferences(I bet he already started writing little jokes down for it), but it's a different thing when it is after a game and he is in "coach mode."

Have you ever witnessed a Romeo Crennel press conference? I doubt Andy's press conferences are worse than Romeo "I'm not sure" Crennel. Plus, the KC Media is filled with a bunch of pussies that lob softball questions on a regular basis. I think it is a win-win for both sides.

NJChiefsFan 01-04-2013 04:24 AM

Yeah it's not like the KC media to hammer away at a point. Questions about Cassel would have come up a long time prior to when they did here.

As for what he says and what he then does, I don't really care about that. As long as he makes the right cut or signing at the right time, I don't care what he said in the media about it 5 days earlier. I have never been one to care about the pressers though. I listen but I don't really get pissed by them.

Kansas City follk as a whole are completely wired differently than those in Philly. As a whole we are much more laid back and we are more accepting to put up with BS for a longer period of time before we go ape sh*t. Our media as a whole isn't hardcore in their reporting. As mentioned they normally try to play nice with everyone and just lob softballs as questions.

A Midwest mentality is hard for some back in the Northeast to understand I would suppose. Reid will have it nice here as long as he wins more than he loses.

Our bike guide gave us these motorcycle helmets to wear. All of them had all kinds of deep scratches and marks all over the place. Some guy finally asked what we were all thinking, "Umm... do people wipe out a lot on this trail? Is this safe?" The bike guide assured us the trail was safe enough for any amateur rider to take easily.

It wasn't until we got deep into the nature reserve when our bike guide pointed out to us a bunch of koalas sleeping in the trees. "We're entering the portion of the forest with the eucalyptus trees. They were planted here from Australia at the request of the US government decades ago. When they realized that eucalyptus trees depend on koalas pruning them for survival, they brought over koalas from Australia. Thankfully, the accidental additions to Oahu's ecosystem have not upset the balance..."

Now riding directly in front of me was a lady probably in her 50s I'd say. Looked physically fit. While the bike guide was continuing to talk about the eucalyptus trees, a koala went WUMP! and fell right on top of the bitch in front of me like a goddamn bomb. She landed a good 5 feet away from her bike, and the koala landed in the other direction, made a squeal of some type, and scampered off into the bushes.

The tour guide stopped, made sure the lady was alright, and said, "Oh, yes. Now you all know where the large scratches on the helmets come from."

I think Trotter kind of nailed it. Like I said, Reid is not a good game manager, and especially in the playoffs or big games the mistakes tend to increase and his demeanor just sort of tightens up. And he does pass the ball way too much.

But he's also one hell of a coach, and you have to keep hoping that those mistakes can be balanced out with the good. It's also worth noting that Trotter was made by the Eagles scheme. He, like many other Eagles defensive players, were only good because of how brilliant Jim Johnson's scheme was.

Hey patrick, you have my permission to never call into 810 again ROFL

DaKCMan AP 01-04-2013 06:55 AM

I will gladly take a position with the Chiefs as Awesome game manager. My responsibilities will be clock management, determining when to go for two, and when to challenge a call.

Give me a call, Andy.

I think it's due to the extra syllables Carolina adds to "you're fired."

Definitely better than Athan, although you may tune in to a BBQ show or listen to a bunch of morons talk about their golf games.

I'm sure the KC coaching search is going to steal the spotlight from the playoffs. The entire world is on pins and needles as they watch to see what a last place team does to fill a coaching vacancy.
