If what you're getting from Smith is just a backup to Morris that's equal to Morris (which is what we saw last season) then I completely disagree.

It's easily worth it to move on from a 7th round pick to firm up the OT rotation as you get into the playoffs.

You probably don't even lose the guy anyway.

You look at what the Chiefs are trotting out at LT and you probably aren't all that excited to get the guy at the bottom of that pile when he's cut loose.

His last season was better than the current LT options.

PFFfffffffft. I'll go with the eye test. Every time I've seen that guy someone was beating him.

If we're gonna make a change, surely we can do something better than Leno.

I guess this isn't happening(NT)

Per @ByNateTaylor…

Donovan Smith is ready to go for the Chiefs the minute the phone call is placed.

If Wanya Morris has lingering injury issues during this upcoming week in Buffalo, Nate expects Smith to be on the team.

He probably is slightly better talent wise, but my guess is the familiarity with the offense gives Smith the nod as a late season addition.

I think they are really tired of the revolving door at this position, and so is Mahomes. They really want these two young guys to get every opportunity. That said, it’s time to just take the gut punch and bring Smith back. We’re going for 3 straight world championships, you can’t dick around at the second most important position on the offense anymore.

I don’t think you’ve seen enough from either guy to go into 2025 without saying LT is still a need, so I think you just bite the bullet and face that now so you don’t end up ruining your season. The Kingsley we saw last week is capable of single handedly doing that. Simply can’t allow it.

Yeah - just put the dude on the PS now.

No harm in it. The only thing I can figure is that he's disinclined to sign a PS deal for minimal money, but if they tell him "Hey, we're not going to sign you at all to the active roster UNTIL we have you on the PS for a bit, so it's this or nothing" I figure the mere possibility (probability given Morris's lingering knee issues this year) will be enough to get him off the couch.

Go ahead and get him in the building ASAP.

Of course they could. Hell, he might even prefer it.

He’s posted on SM, eluding to the fact he’s waiting for the call.

Yeah and given the situation, what are they waiting for? Wanya gets hurt, it happens.

I wonder what the holdup is. Wanyas had issues with that knee since camp…maybe they want to keep getting him reps, as they see improvement in technique development.

Trying to make a confidence move for Wanya/Kingsley until it’s absolutely nessesary?

I really don’t understand why we haven’t done something to improve our OT situation. There’s no moves that are great and will solve the problem for sure but bringing back Smith seems to be the best option.

And it will be difficult for us to solve this problem through the draft. Since 2017 there have only been three OT drafted after the first round that made the pro bowl. Dawkins for Buffalo, O’Neill for Minnesota and Orlando Brown. Tyler Smith of the Cowboys was drafted 24th in 2022 so maybe also could’ve been considered in reach.

So it looks like we have to keep our fingers crossed on Kingsley developing and Morris filling in and staying healthy until he does. Or maybe we can get someone who is good, although not great, in free agency next year.

Dunerdr 11-15-2024 09:09 AM

Charles Leno was supposed to have had the same hip surgery Niang had over the summer. That's why there's absolutely no smoke about him signing anywhere. He's just on every available free agent list.

"Injured, didn't have time to build synergy, doesn't count."

We're about to start eating turkey again fellas, the only option out of house that may end up on this roster is Donovan Smith.
