24 points a game gets the threepeat.

My only worry is a key roleplayer getting hurt in Denver. Leo Chenal is probably going to play a ton of snaps in this game.

I haven't heard anything about Nelson. What makes you think he will get time?

Still feel like he plays an important role in spot duty at some point.

Would have agreed with you until Andy said today that Nelson won’t play against Denver. Hard to believe Nelson plays an important role in the playoffs, with no live snaps in the regular season.

They aren’t even moving Nelson to play in a meaningless game. Spags is rolling with Williams and Roland-Wallace as depth and Nazeeh as a last option.

Interesting. Nelson was clearly only the “Break glass in case of emergency” option

I mean, he had Mike Pennel running his ass off in coverage against the Steelers.

He's fine with 1 trick ponies if he likes that trick, he's way more focused on the DLs run defending ability than the pass rush. It's why a guy like Malik Herring js still around yet Uche gets zero time.

It's makes looking at ends in the draft weird, if a dude is 255 super bendy and quick off the edge, Spags won't like him. If the guy is 265 plays with power and only has a bullrush Spags likes him.

Kind of hard to argue with the results, though. This is one of their best run defenses in years.

My only frustration with it comes from a speed guy who only rushed the passer has high valued snaps, obvious pass downs.

It just makes me question if we had a guy like Will McDonald if he'd never play.

We'd have sat Will McDonald for 2 season while trying to bulk him up to 280 lbs so he could play like Omenihu and Karlaftis.

Work him in. Increase the snaps as he gets comfortable and up to speed.

No need to rush it.

Of course we don't but this year of the dynasty is the redemption arc.

DHop, Hunt, Hollywood, and Humphries all achieve what they couldn't before or always wanted.

Or like my religion teacher once told me: "If you can't beat 'em - joint 'em. Breathe in deep and then just let it go..."

WE do need Watson to get some reps in before the AFCCG

UChieffyBugger 01-12-2025 08:20 AM

The practice reports will tell the story. He's had two of three practices already and Andy says he's moving around well and doing one on one drills in pads. Worthy, Hop and Hollywood will no doubt be putting him through a stern test out there so hopefully he holds up well. If he gets in two full practices next week then he'll hopefully suit up next game.

I can't believe after this season and all the injuries we've had that outside of Rice, we're going into this game as locked and loaded as we could be.

And Rice was essentially replaced with Hopkins, which is a step down but doesn’t kill us by any stretch.

The Pacheco injury was a blessing in disguise, because we likely wouldn’t have Hunt otherwise. Now, we have both.

pugsnotdrugs19 01-14-2025 03:47 PM

Yeah I would hate for his first live game action in three months to be the AFC Championship game which ultimately may crown the Super Bowl winner.

Let him get out there and get a feel for playoff speed again in a contest where a big mistake may not even matter to the outcome.

pugsnotdrugs19 01-14-2025 03:49 PM

Hindsight but man did we catch a break not flipping picks for Lattimore. Watson came back when it mattered and Lattimore has either been injured or getting his ass kicked since becoming a Skin.

Man I love Watson. The type of role player who makes the key difference in those critical playoff games.

RIGHT????

Dude hasn't played a down and while the defense took a massive step back, overall it didn't end up costing us any games, just some yards and a few TD's here and there.

Williams actually played pretty well once he was put in place of Johnson. So this defense SHOULD be prime ASF for the AFCCG.

Sofa King 01-14-2025 04:13 PM

Third downs and red zone.

Texans aren't gonna be taking a lot of shot plays in this game.

Let's be more humble than this guys. Yes we're the favourites but I'm taking nothing for granted. They have a good QB, a number one WR, a decent TE, a good RB and a defense that can get sacks and takeaways. So let's not lose sight of the challenge ahead here.

Dunerdr 01-15-2025 08:14 AM

Its a month until the super bowl. If he can adequately get his toes wet this week and work a little more next week I think he could be nearly full go by the super bowl. Pacheco came back earlier than expected and pretty much was himself from the get go. DB is a different animal I know but it makes me optimistic that we can be almost full tilt.

Nonsense.

If the Chiefs lose Saturday, it will be the most disappointing piss of an effort in the Reid/Mahomes era. It’s not happening.

The Texans are just a nuisance en route to the Arrowhead Invitational being played NEXT weekend.

Rainbarrel 01-15-2025 09:08 AM

Mahomes, Kelce, Jones, Winchester and probably more. Going to a seventh consecutive AFCCG is a bigger obstacle than the Texans as a team

nychief 01-15-2025 09:42 AM

Wait, I was told we just watch and root for the team play football... does our arrogance or lack there or actual effect the game?

RealSNR 01-15-2025 10:07 AM

Guys, UChieffy is right. Tom Brady still had a good handful of seasons where he didn’t make the AFCC. Mahomes can’t possibly make it there every year of his career.

Wait, can he? I mean, I’ve never seen him NOT do it. Evidence would seem to point to him doing it. We’re not taking a small sample size here. We’ve got six freakin seasons of data here, and that seems to be the trending conclusion.

He’s gonna do it, isn’t he?

Yeah, and we can talk all day about 3peat and 4peat and 10peat while we know it all starts Saturday and nothing in sports is guaranteed.... BUT, Mahomes' record is known in the Divisional round, he beats teams in the playoffs by 11 points more on average if their QB isn't Brady, Allen, or Burrow, they looked great the last couple games this season, the Texans have looked awful, it's a dome team traveling to Arrowhead.... if you aren't confident, not sure what to tell you.

And if you get so hyped up that you'll have a meltdown if they're not up 21-0 after the first quarter, that's also on you.

After the Bucs SB, I don't take any games for granted, but yeah a loss this weekend would be pretty ****ing surprising.

I agree. The Texans have issues with injuries on the offense which will hurt them in this game. Could the Texans win? Sure. But my money is on KC.

This is the time that Mahomes/Reid/Spags and the rest of the offense and defense tend to step up. Plus they have plenty of time to prepare for this game.

I don’t see the Texans beating KC as much as KC would have to lose the game, similar to the Chargers last week.

Red Dawg 01-15-2025 10:41 AM

Get him in the game slowly on a limited count. We don't need him all game to win. Texans are over matched this go around.

Is it normal to be able to recover this quickly from a fractured freaking ankle? This just seems nuts to me, especially for a corner.

This team is just built so different. Every player on this roster wants to be the field at all costs. It's just amazing to witness.

Yeah.

This was a pretty doable recovery. What was weird was the presumption that he was done for the season when there was still 12+ weeks left in the year.

Good on him for putting the work in, but a professional athlete in his mid-20s should've been able to make it back by the postseason.

He'd actually be pretty damn useful to have against Collins out wide.

McDuffie can hammer him in the slot, but out wide and deeper down the field, he can use his size to make life difficult for Trent. But I think he'd really struggle with Watson.

And if you take Collins out of the game, Houston will struggle to put up 13.

The Chiefs had Kingsley Suamatia getting Mahomes destroyed half the game, Hopkins had just been traded for, no Rice/Hollywood/Pacheco, Hunt was starting to feel run down from usage, Mahomes uncharacteristically missed a bunch of easy throws and McDuffie had the only bad game of his career that I can recall.

That was the easiest layup for Denver and they STILL blew it
