Have to emphasize pads haven't come on yet, but Alex Smith has come out of the gate looking like a player who got better this offseason.

It's all about his eyes when the real bullets start flying. He immediately takes his eyes to the defensive pressure, perceived pressure, instead of keeping them downfield.

Now keep in mind, I was all for the Smith trade. I was in the "two fumbled punts kept him from the Super Bowl" group. I saw the 1st half of the Colts playoff game as his spring board to franchise QB potential. But I have come to realize... a couple of years ago... that I was wrong. Alex is who he is. 3400 yards, 18 TD''s, 8 Int's. Game manager deluxe. Nothing more. Nothing less.

Even the owner knows that isn't happening. His time table is 3-4 years just to get to the Super Bowl.

Strides!!! Yes!!!

It's nice reading updates about a QB prospect we drafted who we all know will for sure, start someday... it's different than getting excited about every nice throw Stanzi and Bray made in TC these past few years.

Two incomplete passes for Mahomes to start his seven-on-seven reps. Cleans it up on final rep, hitting a slant in stride.

I think we can all agree that it's best for him to actually practice during the season as the backup instead of sitting on the sideline watching.

Plus if Alex gets hurt we're screwed anyway. Maybe have Mahomes be the backup and if Alex gets hurt, sign a vet if he's not ready.

They like Bray if they didn't he wouldn't have been around for 4 years. I don't know who's out there besides Kaepernick that you would say for sure is better than Bray.

YOU are likely better than Bray. They've kept him around because he was created in a lab drawn up by every football coach ever. They're in love with his "potential", not what they see out of him on the field.

I fully expect Bray to be the #3 IF he even makes the team this year. And I say that as a guy that would rather see Mahomes sit and learn all year.

Kaepernick is way too inaccurate for Reid. He also runs before the pocket collapses.

It won't shock me if they go with Stave over Bray, unless Stave is somehow worse than Bray.

If so, good grief.

At that point, they should just sign Shaun Hill.

I know he doesn't. Mahomes can't carve up the 1st team defense until Reid gives him that chance. There will be times in camp when the 2nd team offense goes up against the 1st team defense. I suspect Mahomes will get his chance at some point.

IIRC, Reid has stated it will be an open competition for the backup spot. If that is true, there will be days when Mahomes gets the 2nd string snaps. Then 3rd string snaps. Then 2nd team. And so forth. Until Reid makes his decision on who the backup is going to be.

Mahomes can only play against who the coach puts on the field but you know he will continue to improve and move up on the depth chart and eventually take over Alex Smith job. So there is hype and he deserves the hype he gets.

Well, it won't take much for Escobar to be a better Red Zone target (or receiver, for that matter) than Demetrius Harris.

I'm looking forward to seeing Ross Travis in preseason. He spent a portion of the offseason here in LA, training with Glazer and Tony Gonzalez.

Nobody was expecting Escobar to replace Witten. But in the red zone, Escobar scored 4 times on 9 receptions in 2014 to Witten's 5 TD's total for the entire season.

If he can stay healthy and improve his blocking, he'll be a red zone target and a more reliable one than Demetrius Harris ever was.

Escobar had limited snaps in Dallas due to Witten. He had 8 TD's in four seasons (30 receptions), which is far more than Harris or Travis combined.

All I know is that someone needs to step up and be the #2 TE because having 3 broke dick backups doesn't help the team.

You can't teach players to catch at this level. They either have it or they don't. Route running is different story (see Michael Crabtree).
Ginn is a fine example, hasn't improved his catching ability at all and the only thing keeping him around is elite speed.

He had two 2 point conversions (one taken away) and a single TD. He missed one that was point blank too.

For the season, he had the highest drop rate of any player.

I expect the Chiefs to part ways with him at some point in the near future, especially with his character issues surfacing.

All I know is that someone needs to step up and be the #2 TE because having 3 broke dick backups doesn't help the team.

Escobar was third string.

I sure as **** hope not. That's waste of a roster spot.

Well we do use a lot of 2 TE and 3 TE sets. Spiller probably won't make the team. It'll be Ware, Hunt, and West. As for WRs I pray that Wilson gets cut and Jones makes it. Jones has shown that he belongs so far getting reps with the 1s

I would most certainly hope that Alex would look great in practices that are conducted in shorts with no pads on. This is his 5th training camp with the Chiefs and 13th overall so he should know every detail about what's going on how to go through the drills.

This is the first time Mahomes has done this with people he just met. I don't expect any player in that situation to look like a veteran right off the bat.

So you're saying if the OL does its job, Alex can actually be a very good QB?

7 on 7, then why can't the other QBs look as good against the lower order defenders?
