Definitely want to do some green chiles, been looking on the New Mexico State University website for seeds but feel I'm late to the party for the year.

Love the idea of a berry bush but am leery of the bird shit. Have a utility line that runs right above my paver walkway to a detached garage. ****ing grackles up there shitting down a new Jackson Pollock painting everyday and I don't even have any bushes in the ground in my yard. Hate to encourage them.

scarecrow? make it fun!! also, could you get a a chili plant and put it in a 5 gallon bucket on your deck or something like that? you won't get a whole lot, but some are better than none? (and yes, the season to plant is pretty much past, but IF you could find a plant you could give it a try).

A lot of conniferous trees drop their needs and create a super acidic environment and you can’t grow shit for grass or whatever. Another example is there are a lot of maple trees around (including one in my yard :cuss: ) but it turns out they don’t handle high pH environments very well and get iron chlorosis really bad which really shortens their (including mine :cuss: ) lifespan.

Yeppers, I worked in Branson Roark Valley Road in the spring. The smell of rootbeer everywhere redbuds and dogwoods in bloom. After work, I took a shovel and dug up sassafrass dogwood and redbuds. we headed home for the weekend and transplanted in my yard. The bitches were going great guns till next spring. They were dead as a hammer couldn't handle clay soil. I guess they were used to rocky limestone sandy soil.

Spray on or brush on?

srvy 06-14-2020 08:45 PM

My brother had me spray it on with a pump pressure sprayer worked great. its water-based and he had me thin it with water so it would spray good.

srvy 06-14-2020 08:53 PM

Also Moms deck is fairly shaded with a lot of trees. So it's not sun-beaten to badly. It tends to get moss in areas but hasn't since sealed with BM. My brother said clients have had similar results with full sun decks.

Hit it one more time with the power washer. Still have a little white/sealant left.

Is the next step cleaner, sealant or the clear stain?

Update. I got a Deck sander and sanded the deck, my daughter sanded the railings and spindles. We put on a stain. I wanted more of a clear but my wife liked this. color. We took a voted. I got outvoted 1 to 1.

Still like it. New furniture and umbrella this week.

But it is supposed to rain in a few hours. Good thing It is supposed to be water resistant in 4. It will be at least 8 before it rains.

NO!!! You're supposed to call your local USDA unit and they'll come get them. Don't open or touch and especially don't plant.

lewdog 07-26-2020 03:50 PM

Not bad for hot ass July in Phoenix. That stringy plant in the far left corner is a Barbados Cherry tree, which will be shaped more like a big bush, but produce red cherries in the next few years. The tropical corner has filled in nicely with the palms and hibiscus plants (There's a cape honeysuckle in there too). It's too hot for them to flower right now but usually provide pink and red blooms in Spring/Fall. Just added the shade structure this week, which will likely house some potted plumerias and various succulents that like heat but not direct Phoenix sun in the middle of summer.

Don’t do that. Sometimes established plants with rhizome roots or long lasting hard shelled seeds (especially if they’re polymer coated) can last a hell of a long time.

Officials in at least four states are urging residents to report any unsolicited packages of seeds that appear to have been sent from China, warning that they might be invasive or otherwise harmful.

The agriculture departments in Washington state, Louisiana, Kansas and Virginia have issued statements in recent days, noting that residents had reported receiving packages of seeds in the mail that they had not ordered. Based on photos, the seeds appear to have been mailed in white pouches displaying Chinese lettering and the words "China Post."

Some of the packages were labeled to say they contained jewelry, according to the Kansas Department of Agriculture. Packages of seeds have also been sent to residents in Utah, Arizona and Ohio, according to local news reports.

Officials are warning people not to plant the seeds.

"Unsolicited seeds could be invasive, introduce diseases to local plants or be harmful to livestock," the Washington state Department of Agriculture said.

Police in Whitehouse, Ohio, where a resident reported receiving seeds, said the packages appeared to be a part of a "brushing" fraud.

"A brushing scam," the department said on its Facebook page, "is an exploit by a vendor used to bolster product ratings and increase visibility online by shipping an inexpensive product to an unwitting receiver and then submitting positive reviews on the receiver's behalf under the guise of a verified owner."

The seeds did not appear to be "directly dangerous," the department said.

Nice. It's like my Meyer lemon tree. Puts out 250 softball sized lemons. We squeeze and freeze.

Another kick ass plant is my habaneros. That thing is kicking ass. Bugs hate it. Ha. Need recipes but been sauteing in my scrambled eggs and made jam for the English muffins.

Lost new peach tree and nectarine trees (planted in ground) this summer with a record 50+ days over 110 degrees. Hottest summer on record in Phoenix.

Gave my attempt at citrus in growbags though and they loved it.

Lisbon lemon and Dancy Tangerine (Cuties variety sold in store).

Is that iron staining on your top step?

cooper barrett 10-04-2020 06:16 AM

Excuse to buy smoker? Smoked peppers have many uses

I smoke Habanaros and ghost peppers, dehydrate and grind to powder. It's in my BBQ rubs, sauce, and I use it like pepper(not liberally) on my food. SO not so much.

Great in chili and lightly added to stews. adds a smoky heat that I add to cottage cheese.

Did I mention that I sell what I over produce? Brings in extra whiskey money.

Someone once suggested bleach and I was all like "bitch, do you even know hat chlorine is?" I'd probably just resurface each step. Pebbletech or something offsetting. Can't believe you don't have a hoop. Looks refreshing!

Yeah at some point the whole pool needs resurfaced. Honestly, not a fan of pebbletech. It just feels too rough and tough on feet. A lot of the colors makes pools look dark too. I like the smooth surface of plaster and it's bright blue/green water look. I am probably in the minority on not liking pebbletech, I know.

I think I'll get a hoop for next summer. By then he'll be 3 and possibly interested.

eDave 10-04-2020 03:02 PM

Yea. I was referencing more of an aesthetic thing. Pebbletech is the devil, considering the whole sweeping thing I mentioned earlier. And you gotta have a nicer octopus. More expensive all around. My next pool will have an aeration outlet at the steps. Why wouldn't you (considering you could control it independently). And a mister system all up underneath the pool edge. And kick ass lighting to light that fog up.

Anyway, nice jungle.

It looked like iron to me. You could do an ascorbic acid treatment. To test it out, get some vitamin c tablets and put them over the stain. It will likely lighten it slightly in that small spot. If it does, it's an iron stain. The AA treatment is pretty easy, but requires your attention for several days (have to lower chlorine and ph).

Nothing lasts in the summer here outside of Vincas, which I love and they LOVE the heat. Other than that, what you liked blooming back East could probably be grown here in late fall and through winter. Think opposite of normal gardening instincts here! Poppies do well here in winter and add nice color. Late fall sprinkle wildflower seeds and starting in February you'll see a huge mixture grow and look nice into May.

Read this. It's all about planting time here as we absolutely get enough sun and there's not enough frost to worry about.

https://cals.arizona.edu/extension/o...erplanting.pdf

I have a raised bed for vegetables. Basically plant what you want each year as trying to shade cloth and protect in summer is basically pointless outside of keeping pepper plants from year to year. Winter veggies are very easy here and are planted Aug-September (could still plant now as it's still so hot!). These include carrots, brocoli, beets, lettuce, radishes (super easy), onions.
