Going all Oregon with the uniforms and scheduling the SEC is a pretty good way to drum up interest or get exposure to your program...

We will never have the deep rich SEC tradition Missery has though... We wont be busting in to dominate either.

But at least they are trying to put the product out there in the biggest market for kids to see...

Yea, they do. It's going to be a scramble for them.

Why is the SEC making a change?

If you've checked Twitter at all recently,*you've probably heard that the SEC is making a tweak in their league schedule rules. The league will not move to nine league games as some had previously speculated (at least, not yet), but the move does impact the available inventory of out-of-conference games, which will impact BYU. We try to separate the fact from the fiction, and explain exactly what this new development means

There are a few reasons. Currently, SEC teams play eight conference games, the same as the ACC and Big Ten (although the Big Ten will switch to a nine-game conference schedule in 2016). The Pac-12 and the Big 12 currently play nine conference games. As the SEC expanded, some schools were concerned that if the number of league games didn't grow, some schools would be at a significant schedule imbalance, especially with some matchups protected as rivalries. Others were concerned that playing eight SEC games, instead of nine, would limit inventory for the new SEC Network. Finally, with strength of schedule a part of the playoff selection criteria, some felt that adding another SEC game would further bolster the credentials of SEC schools.

However, most coaches, outside of Nick Saban anyway, felt that adding a ninth game would simply increase the chances than SEC teams would beat up on each other, putting them at a disadvantage compared to champs from the Big Ten, Pac-12 and others. A hybrid proposal seemed like the best compromise for the short term, an eight-plus-one model. Now, each SEC school will be required to play one school from a "Power 5" conference (the Big 10, ACC, Big 12 or Pac-12) on top of their eight conference games.

I remember when KSU scheduled Auburn and everyone said "are they crazy?" Then you went down there and got ass-raped

I have a feeling the SEC will abuse Kansas like a $3 Mexican hooker. Jesus this is going to hurt. But at least we will look good while it happens.

Except our slate is already full for the next several years and we don't have room to even consider adding SEC schools. Obv you didn't read the article either. We're not playing them

Big 12 already plays a 9 game conf schedule. Not sure what these other conferences are going to do.

Sirhan Sirhan Zinger was nothing but target practice by Cholly. Several old war horses wanted to take $12.5m guaranteed from this amateur A.D. to fund their retirements. But the guy who got the gig is a professional con man. He can't coach but damn can he blow smoke up people's asses.

Need to hire a young and hungry guy, like Mango Mason or even Allen. People laugh at Allen but he did win 4-5 games. Weis would act like he was Bear Bryant if he was going all Allen on the league.

Anyone got any tips on where to park for cheap on game day?

I don't feel like speeding $20 to park at AFH every game....

I go to the games with my 4 year old so I would like to keep the walking to within a mile...or else I am giving him a piggy-back ride most of the way and I spend the next day at the Chiropractor.

Please and thank you.

I always used to park up in the shopping center on Iowa but it is a bit of a walk.

I though they were doing busses from certain areas that allowed you to park away from the stadium and the bus drops you off. Would be something to look into.

I'm going to this game. My first KU football game since 2009 and I'm still looking for tailgating opportunities as I'm flying in this time, so won't have access to any of my gear.

Prison Bitch 09-05-2014 12:44 PM

Little birdie told me this is Weis last season and he has already informed Sirhan Zinger. I am so confident in this source that if I'm wrong ill let you pick my avatar for the entire football season in 2015.

Also I'm told Weis' rep has drawn up the framework of a buyout and its fairly minimal, $1m or so. He intends to return to a coordinator position, not retire, with the NFL his first option.

I went to school with Sheahon, and he's a very good dude. That said, the Weiss hire was either going to be a raging success or a flop. There really was no middle ground. Given Sheahon's background and conservative nature, that hire was always puzzling to me. Hiring Weiss isn't how you build a Program, it's how you gain attention. That sort of attention isn't what ku needs. You need a Slow and steady, nose to the grindstone, chopping wood, blue collar coach. They're out there, you just have to be focused to find the right one.

I'll play along because it wouldn't surprise me if this were his last year.

#1 - does it sound like a Weis decision to step down, or being pushed out?

#2 - was there any info on what direction they are looking for the next HC?

Prison Bitch 09-05-2014 02:20 PM

1. All Weis
2. Bowen

The source is not Zinger or Weis but you would know the name for certain.

I told the source they hired that guy from Rice to be head coach. "That's not who's getting the job" was the response. I'll give a month of free avatar to you (nothing in return) if Bowen is not the next HC.

RockChalk 09-05-2014 03:03 PM

PB and I don't have the same source, but I heard the same thing a few days go. Mine is someone from the AD's office.

In addition to that, I was told Weis may be gone as early as November if this season starts off as a complete disaster.

Lzen 09-05-2014 03:13 PM

Since there is discussion of Weis being gone after this year, seems like a good time to post this.

Not asking for anything, just thought the info was interesting because I've always kind of felt Weis was a 3-4 year coach at max.

Eventually the turn around will come. KU is seemingly at least trying to get a football program going.

That's about as positive as I can be right now.

Me too, but he does have a 5-year deal and he's got 7.5m left on it. He does have a lot of money but the last two years are guaranteed at 5.0m so it's hard to walk away from that. I've heard he's looking at 1.0m and that Bowen is the next HC not the new guy from Rice.

Doing the park and ride for $1 from the stadium. Thanks.

This is really the first year I don't 'know' anyone going to school their who lives next to the stadium. Past years I've had friends or their siblings who lived blocks from the stadium and I would just park there and walk.

I am now relegated to being a standard civilian who was being lured into $20 parking...

I am out of the loop. I am feeling old.

I was at that game. Section 5, row 6.

It was embarrassing that we didn't sell the stadium out for that game. That said, the only open seats were the corners of the upper deck, and some of the student sections. I'd guess the attendance was 45-46K for the 50K seats avail
