Tony Romo, though? I could definitely see Bray having a similar level of success if everything pans out.

Trent Green was drafted in the 8th round.

Sorry bud, Trent was a badass. This current team would rape with him behind center.

ehhhh...I don't know about that. Trent Green ran Saunders' system nearly perfectly. He was nearly flawless after the first year. I think Alex can BE that here in a Reid offense, but he's going to have to prove that. I say it's his 'ceiling' in KC.

We've actually agreed on a lot over the years.

Who I think were overrated-McNabb, Feeley, Kolb, Vick. I don't think any of them were really good. I think Reid made 'em look good. But we'll see if you're correct or I am pretty quick.

agreed, Reid is a good offensive coordinator. imo.

I worry about beyond that ... it seems like many of these guys do worse as they get more power.

Reid is now basically part GM, part HC

I think the team bottomed out the last 2 years much like Marty bottomed out the last year. They went for broke, brought in a ton of high priced guys when that wasn't the MO all along.

He got to hire coaches, and he put together a hell of a staff. Reid continually get more power until the last few years.

Since I simply hate talking about Smith or Green, I'll just say this and be done: if Smith DOESN'T become a better QB than Green or Gannon, this whole trade was completely ****ing useless, and could at BEST be classified as "treading water". And considering that Cassel was the equivalent of drowning puppies and kittens in a burlap bag, is that classification good enough? Now; more Bray, less of these other ****ing assholes please...

For me, I think, that is the whole point of the ASmith trade. Just as Trent Green was the perfect QB for Saunder's system, I think ASmith is viewed by Reid and Dorsey as being the perfect QB for Reid's system.

I think people underestimate and undervalue that fact. They want a sexy QB with a huge arm, but that might not be the perfect QB for Reid's system (and it isn't, really). The perfect QB for Reid's offensive philosophy is someone who is, first of all, extremely cerebral/intelligent, and secondly, extremely accurate over short and intermediate ranges. Alex Smith is about as near as perfect of a QB as you can find (OK, Manning, Brady, Brees...but they aren't available) to run that offense.

I don't think Reid and Dorsey were kidding when they thought that ASmith could be a Hall of Fame QB. In Reid's particular system, he's about as perfect of a QB as you are going to find.

I was initially bummed about getting ASmith--and bummed about the price we paid for him, but when I look at Smith's strengths and how they fit into what Andy is wanting to install in KC, I am now very happy with the move. Once you get past the initial knee-jerk "OMG another ****ing 49er castoff," you will have reason to be pretty excited about ASmith.

You get the right QB for the right system and you have the foundation for a dynasty.

Sweet Daddy Hate 05-19-2013 08:22 PM

If that's the case we'll see a "Cassel" contract soon, but if not then it's touch and go.

The very fact that Reid and Dorsey are waiting for that type of contract, if at all, lets you know that they are a prove it on the field type of FO and not a "I'm a genious so everything will work out as I have forseen" type of FO like *****. There is reason to hope for the future of this team.

Oh, and FWIW, if ASmith is indeed the perfect QB for Reid's system, and he can prove it on the field, then I have no problem at all giving him a contract like Cassel had while he was here.

Bray waits for more chances

Perhaps deferring to the veteran, the Chiefs are using Ricky Stanzi as their third quarterback while rookie Tyler Bray is getting few snaps as the fourth quarterback. Hard to say if that will change any time soon, but Bray has better ability to make all the necessary throws than Stanzi does. While the Chiefs — with Smith as their starter and Chase Daniel as the top reserve — need to be in no hurry to develop Bray, he has already displayed enough skills to earn more work.
