I try, I really do. I admit that I will fail on occasion, but I really do try to give Pinkel a wide berth.

He annoys me fairly frequently, but he's built this program; it's his. The recruits are his, the staff is his - when we win, it's because of Gary Pinkel.

Do I wish he'd install a short yardage package? Sure - but the man's built a consistent winner and a team that's capable of having some excellent years along the way. He's also a standup individual that's active in the community. For a university that survived Quin Snyder, that's a HUGE deal.

He's a top 20 coach in college football, IMO. I'll live with his quirks.

Afterall - he could be Turner Gill.

That might be the best game Missouri's played in the Pinkel era.

Went into a hostile environment and just b!tch slapped the other team.

Well it's good that they had him run the ball late and then line up at WR. That helps ribs heal.

haha, I didn't watch it. FSN here chose to show Georgia - Vandy instead.

Suggestion for the MU PR department. Get your games on TV, you'd have a lot more fans that way.

Good win nonetheless, I was following on gamecast.

You are clueless because you think your little TV declares what is and is not a national game. Your bullshit 25 straight comment about Kansas last night showed us how much you know about anything.

25 straight games of Kansas football have been televised.

Have you had to of had a higher tier of cable to get a few of those games? (NDSU, New Mex St..) yes...

If you are happy with the TV coverage of Missouri football then good for you. I wouldn't be. I've heard you've had multiple games not televised anywhere this season.

I wouldn't be happy with that.

My son was on the same HS football team as Adam Burton, a LB at Mizzou. I use to go watch practices after work. I was a Chiefs season ticket holder for 14 years. I saw many a NFL LB play in person over the years. Adam was just as fast as any of those LB's in going from sideline to sideline. He could have went to any college in America. He's just a Freshman and not even starting. That tells you the depth that Mizzouri has on defense.

I'm encouraged though. I like the matchup of our D versus that Nebraska offense. (Never thought I'd say that.)

I'd be a lot more confident if it were a home game for Mizzou.

Both defenses match up well against the offenses. MU's defense is giving up 3.5 ypc, and that includes the 170 yards SDSU's RB had on two plays. Nebraska basically plays a base dime, and they are geared towards stopping spread teams.

Coach 10-16-2010 04:50 PM

If God came down tomorrow and told me "the Tigers play OU and KU this season, they will only win 1 of those games - I'll let you choose..."

I'd pick OU and wouldn't think twice.

I cannot say how goddamn tired I am of watching those MFers beat us. I want them dead. I want their family dead.

This nonsense has to stop. Even when Oklahoma's better than us - they're not THAT much better than us. There's no reason we can't beat them in our barn, while undefeated, on homecoming.

My favorite things:

1) The gameplan. Missouri diced up aTm on both sides of the ball. Gabbert really elevated his play and made some outstanding throws. If thats the QB we see the rest of the year, the sky is the limit for this team.

2) The defensive line. Yes, aTm has a weak OL. But Missouri's defense - and especially the DL - played outstanding football, and it started up front. Good D vs. the run, and great pressure.

3) That Missouri dominated and won the game straight up. All week, most of the pundits were talking about Missouri having to force a lot of turnovers to have a chance against aTm and keep up in a shootout. Instead, Missouri dominated wire-to-wire, and showed it clearly was a better team in all facets.

Forgot to mention: GREAT play from the secondary, especially Rutland and Kip Edwards. This D, I think, is just going to get better as the season goes along (barring further injuries). It all starts up front, though. I love the way the D has stepped up with Aldon Smith out... if Madison, J. Smith, etc keep up this level of play when Aldon comes back, watch out....

I can't imagine our gimmicky spread offense will be effective against OU. Never has been in the past.

I think the defense will keep us in it until the end, and then they'll run out of gas and we'll collapse in the 4th quarter.

Hope I'm wrong. :sulk:

Mizzou fans should be thankful as hell that we have Pinkel.

There's something to be said for understanding where your program falls in the big scheme of things. Unfortunately, Mizzou will never be a perennial National Title contender. What they should be, however, is a perennial top-25 team. Largely, Pinkel has made this possible, while greatly improving facilities and recruiting well.

In my view, this is about as well as Mizzou can reasonably expect. When things line up especially well, we'll have an even better year. Perhaps like the ride we're on now? In short, though, we're lucky to have him.

*Naturally, this doesn't mean that anyone is above criticism. This is a completely separate issue.

Congratulations Tigers. I know its almost impossible to throw well wishes your way, but I would much rather see a Big XII team win our conference than a Big 10 one. Most Mizzou fans with at least a room temperature IQ do also.

Most Mizzou fans hate the offensive system that has consistently given Missouri its best offensive teams in the past 40 years?

I know that some people hate the spread irrationally, but it's a big part of Pinkel's success at Mizzou. It's the reason Missouri continues to attract great quarterbacks (Next one in line, IMO: 2012 kid Gunner Kiel, who probably is the guy that replaces Franklin as the starter) and helped attract the great WR class this past recruiting cycle.

It gives Missouri the best shot to be a consistent winner in the new conference, that's for sure. Going to a pro style system just isn't going to work that often for a school like Missouri (too reliant on a great QB/great OL).

I WOULD like to see an ace set incorporated (with a TE in the slot and a blocking TE attached to the line on the opposite side), but the spread is Missouri's bread and butter.

The Tigers are damn lucky to have had a "win" hire like Pinkel. Let's just hope they are similarly successful when it comes time to hire his replacement...

Agreed. The thing that could change this paradigm would be landing a top 5 current coach or, even better, an all-time coach. You know, a Davaney/Bryant/Osborne.

Otherwise, I'll be happy with where this program is. Missouri should be a top 25 program that is in the top 30 most years and has 2-3 years a decade where it can contend for the conference title.

Let's not forget the genius fans that wanted Steck fired as well.

BTW, WTF was Vegas smoking on their line? I mean, they are typically pretty accurate but the line today was irrationally bad.

Let's hope we can say a similar thing regarding Yost by seasons end. If he dials up six more offensive gameplans like the one today, that shouldn't be a problem.

Musburger & Herbstreit announced during the Ohio State/Wisky game that they'll be in Columbia next Saturday night at 7pm on ABC.

I assume that means GameDay will also be in Columbia that morning too.
