I believe that most new rides have that built in like in OnStar in a GM. The data can be retrieved.

From what I understand you can have that deactivated by the cars manufacturer.

But willingly paying your ins company to use a tracking device to monitor your driving habits that could ultimately dictate/raise your premiums just seems wild to me...all for a 10% discount?

Not sure I've heard of anyone paying for it... I know State Farm is just a free app you download and they can only discount your rates, they don't increase it.

Of course, the cesspoolers will chime in and make up their own future fiction from that 'slippery slope', but at this very moment that's how it works.

Eventually, in the name of safety and efficiency , all cars will be autonomous and follow all rules, traffic regulations. Insurance companies are going to be pushing it.
I wonder how many more years? I’m thinking 20-25.

KCUnited 12-30-2024 06:42 PM

Insurance companies can 100% raise your premiums based on your driving habits collected by they’re proprietary monitoring device

All states are regulated differently but yeah that’s a fact

****, the slippery slope is already here! LMAO

That sucks, State Farm claims it doesn't, but in my experience they're already one of the gougier ones.

Yeah, my app with Travelers is free and I only have to use it for 90 days and 84 of them are behind me. Then they have enough information to properly adjust my rates.

Oh and Big Daddy, I was nicknamed HemiEd by a some of my buddies for having done this Hemi Road Runner restoration 24 years ago.

The fact that I am trying to keep my insurance costs down has nothing to do with my car interest.

Hell, I could be good for 90 days... probably.

That was my thinking as well, then I hadn't driven the Challenger for a couple months and had to hammer it. Oh well, it is still only one of 4 events. o:-)

I mean you can get your rate raised by the zip code you live in, whether you did anything or not, just the weather or 100 other things

We’re….errr they aren’t offering you a discount for the privilege to monitor your weather….errr driving habits so we….errr they can save you money

Insurance is risk mitigation, that’s it

And investing my money for me, but not giving any of it back.

LOL. I'd be shocked if that application you've installed on your phone isn't pinging some 3rd party service and sending your coordinates, speed, heading, make-model, name, marital status, family data, address, etc to 3rd party streaming aggregators (data brokers). Unbelievable that people do this sort of crap just to save a few penny's on the dollar.

Investing it at a higher rate of return than what they have to pay out in the aggregate

Hence shedding riskier policy holders by monitoring their driving habits, age of their roofs, and a million other factors

Any type of "mandatory" tracking I would be against. At that point, its not an insurance savings; its lack of freedom IMO.

There is no way that wouldn’t be against the first and 4th amendments. It has to be voluntary.

After the home storm damage we had the last two Julys, I would be thrilled never to have a claim again. I won't live long enough for the insurance company to ever break even with us. I swear, dealing with it has given me PTSD or something like that.

Few pennies? Oh well, I guess you won't be doing it then?:spock:

You think you are using it to save money. What its really being used for is any iota of information to **** you in a claim.

Frazod 12-30-2024 07:18 PM

I can't remember the exact quote, but it's something like "If a product is given to you free, then you're the product."
