I love pretty much any ancient and modern earth (and beyond) mysteries whether of the natural kind or the supernatural kind.

A civilization millions of years older than us could have unlocked this mystery or even found other ways that we can't yet dream of. Our understanding of the universe is still far too minimal to place limits on what a civilization with an extra millions of years could doing. Do you believe aliens (in the conventional sense) exist at all? Or do you just believe they wouldn't be able to get here? |

The idea of advanced ancient civilizations is one of my favorite fantasies. I've done a lot of reading on Atlantis, Lemuria, etc. and even just civilizations we know (bits) about, like Egypt and Greece.
I'm just not sure about it though. It seems, if these civilizations were so advanced, we'd have found a bit more evidence. More machines, technology, structures, etc.. I'd guess our ancestors were just a lot more advanced than we like to give them credit for.. |
How do you guys feel about "the powers that be" behind the scenes controlling things? The Illuminati, Jews controlling money and media, that sort of thing..
|
I'd guess if you believe in faked moon landings and governmental assassinations of presidents you'd have to, at least partially, believe in that sort of thing, no?

they would miss us by a couple galaxies are more. If we have had visitors, they are not aliens. They are time travelers from our future that have evolved. |
And this is the problem with belief structures. As soon as you choose your team, as soon as you say "it can only be this, anything else is impossible" you have closed your mind to every other possibility. At that point any inkling of honest study of the unexplained is finished, because all you have are people looking for evidence to support what they already believe. And all semblance of discussion is over. You're only left with various entrenched groups slamming their heads against the wall to try and convince each other that their belief is the right belief, with nobody listening to a word of what anybody else is saying. You see this all over the UFO field. Unfortunately.

And it's basically based on nothing. Our science..... that most people don't even understand to begin with..... which is always changing..... What do we really KNOW? |

Another possibility is that life teems and said search is, was or will be conducted by a nearby civilization. Or perhaps we ourselves conduct said search in a few hundred or thousand years, and the labor produces fruit quickly. Or perhaps we ourselves already conducted said search in a remote past forgotten to history. Or perhaps life only exists in one in a trillion habitable worlds and looking for it at all is a complete and total waste of time, at least until some day in the distant future we spread to the empty stars and populate them ourselves, and the extraterrestrials are us. I should note that I try to avoid using the term 'alien' in this discussion because the meaning can be unclear. Something from Earth itself can be alien to our understanding. Also the term has basically become a pejorative, much as 'UFO' itself has, a way to mock by its very use, which is why you've seen the development of acronyms like UAP. So I try to run with extraterrestrial. Although sometimes I forget. Not saying anybody else should, just clarifying myself... |
