I initially wanted pick 144 to grab Ainias Smith but I like Nourzad so much that I just couldn't do it and settled on Malik Washington who might just be the better prospect overall anyhow. |
Welp, one of my hopeful breakout player of the year (Drew Sanders, LB, Broncos) tore his Achilles today. Not a great start to the year.

Analysis:
Feel pretty good about my offense overall with All-pro caliber players at QB, RB, TE, OG, and OC. WR is missing a standout, but has quite a bit of depth as a whole. Mahomes will be able to cook. Defense is a bit spotty. My draft picks have either developed into JAGs or suffered from repetitive injuries limiting their development. |

As a preface, I am accepting the trade of a 2025 7th round pick for DE Cameron Thomas. I am very pleased with the roster and had to make some difficult roster cuts this year (see Notable Cuts). Bold denotes my projected starters. QB Patrick Mahomes II D1-10/17 (KC) QB Carson Wentz KC FA/24 (KC) RB Aaron Jones D5-180/17 (MIN) RB Tyler Allgeier D4-135/22 (ATL) RB Rasheen Ali D5-160/24 (BAL) TE Travis Kelce TE Cade Otton D3-103/22 (TB) TE Jared Wiley D4-131/24 (KC) TE Noah Gray D5-162/21 (KC) WR Hollywood Brown FA/24 (KC) WR Gabriel Davis D4-125/20 (JAX) WR Xavier Worthy D1-28/24 (KC) WR Tyler Boyd D2-37/16 (TEN) WR A.T. We had some tough decisions this year.
QB Russell Wilson (Steelers) Aidan O'Connell (Raiders) Carson Wentz Notable cuts: Blaine Gabbert, but that's expected. Russell won the starting job in Pittsburgh, and O'Connell lost the starting job in Las Vegas. I'm serviceable here but at some point I need to figure out how to get a new starter. RB Isaih Pacheco Alvin Kamara (Saints) Jaylen Wright (Dolphins) Samaje Perine Notable cuts: Rashaad Penny (Eagles), Carson Steele. Penny was always injured. I'd love to keep Steele but don't have roster room. I feel very comfortable with my running backs this season. I'm strong and deep. WR Adonai Mitchell (Colts) Hollywood Brown Khalil Shakir (Bills) Malachai Corley (Jets) Justin Watson Juju Smith Schuster Notable cuts: Terrace Marshall (Panthers), Donovan Peoples-Jones, WR (Browns), Kardarius Toney, Marquez Valdez-Scantling (free agent). Marshall is yet another failed second-round WR. Major talent infusion this year with Brown, Mitchell, and Corley, and re-signing JuJu. This was a major weakness last year, and I actually like the group this year. TE Travis Kelce Grant Calcaterra (Eagles) Zach Kuntz (Jets) Notable cuts: Irv Smith, Jr., rejected trade for Peyton Hendershot Calcaterra has worked his way up to second string. I should cut Kuntz in favor of some more deserving players, but I need three TEs and I know he's a developmental case. OT Jawaan Taylor Morgan Moses (Redskins) Orlando Brown, Jr. (Bengals) Walter Rouse (Vikings) Notable cuts: Ethan Driskell, Donovan Smith. I hated cutting Driskell, but it's a numbers game. Good group here. Reliable veterans, and Rouse has become a second-string LT as a rookie. G Joe Thuney Wyatt Teller (Browns) Trey Smith I have a strong group here. C Cody Whitehair (Raiders) Sedrick Van Pran-Granger (Bills) Whitehair is a guard now, but he was a long-time center. I'll play him here since the rookie apparently underperformed and is currently third-string for the Bills. Whitehair is fine here. Specialists K - Harrison Butker LS - James Winchester P - Matt Araiza Townsend left, and Punt God arrived. We're good. Safeties Andre Cisco (Jaguars) Justin Reid Jordan Poyer (Bills) Coby Bryant (Seahawks) I've had this corps in place for a while. Poyer has been here forever. This is a strong group. CB Joey Porter, Jr. (Steelers) Amik Robertson (Lions) Caelen Carson (Cowboys) Kalen King (Packers) Notable cuts: Marcus Peters, Shaun Wade, Desmond King This is an area of major concern. Peters is gone, and King was a nickel back for a long time. Porter is strong, but I'm going to rely on the rookie Carson to play the other outside position while Amik plays nickel. My only depth is King, a practice squad rookie. The good news is that Carson played his way up to second string in Dallas as a rookie. OLB Leo Chenal Henry To'oTo'o (Texans) Drue Tranquill Zach Baun, LB (Eagles) Notable cuts: Anthony Nelson. He was a very serviceable backup, but I didn't have a roster spot for him once Baun won a starting job. I've actually got some talent here now. Chenal and To'oTo'o are good OLBs and Tranquil is strong depth. Baun appears to finally be developing and will be starting in Philadelphia. ILB Ivan Pace (Vikings) Nakobe Dean (Eagles) I thought Dean was a no-brainer pick, but he's having trouble getting onto the field. Meanwhile, Pace was a huge scouting win for me and is a good starter. DE George Karlaftis Dorance Armstrong (Commanders) Charles Omenihu Cedric Johnson (Bengals) Myles Cole (Jaguars) Notable cuts: Yetur Gross-Matos, DE (49ers), rejected trade for Cameron Thomas. My starters are strong. Omenihu will be good depth when he returns, and I have two rookie developmental guys. Not a lot of depth here in the short term. I hate to cut Gross-Matos. He was probably the 54th guy on the roster. DT Andrew Billings (Bears) Tershawn Wharton Dewayne Carter (Bills) Zacch Pickens (Bears) Adetomiwa Adebawore (Colts) Moro Ojomo (Eagles) Notable cuts: Kalia Davis. I'm giving up on him too early, but there's too much competition at this spot. I keep drafting guys, but Billings and Wharton keep holding on to the starting spots. I have four 1st or 2nd year players behind them, and I'm hoping some of them will step up. This is not a strong position group, but I'm hoping it'll grow and develop. |
Overall, I'm liking my team this year.
My offense has the potential to be pretty good if I can get good play out of Russell Wilson and my wide receivers. Worst case, my big strong offensive line will pound out a strong running attack with a platoon of diverse running backs. My defense is talented and very young. We've got some big areas of vulnerability at CB and DT right now, though. This will be a growing year for the defense, but I think they've got the potential to be really strong. |
Off to a rough start with my Coleman, Franklin, and Burton picks. Will be a wasted draft class for me if I go 0/3.

Somewhat of a mid-year analysis.
At QB, Mahomes has been off but he's still Mahomes. Wentz hasn't played. At RB, Aaron Jones is as solid as they come and Allegier is a good backup. We're not setting the world on fire running the ball but our 1,547 rushing yards would be in 6th place right now. My WR corps is anemic with Worthy as my top WR. Gabe Davis is sucking ass in Jax, Hollwood is in the tub, tyler Boyd is playing with a young QB and the rest of my crew hasn't really come of age. Thank goodness I have 3 competent TEs that have combined for 1,377 yds to my WR's 1,101. Overall, our 2,819 yards through the air would be among the tops in the league even after adjusting for sack losses. My offensive line is nails, honestly. Bernhard Raimann has quietly developed into one of the leagues top left tackles and has only surrendered 5 pressures and 1 sack this season. Rasheed Walker is also a very capable starter at left tackle, giving up only 2 sacks on the year but strugging with conceding pressure, and would likely be my default starter over Jawaan Taylor on the right side who has given up 5 sacks and been pretty meh. Erik McCoy continues to be a staple at center and one of the elite in the league. Trey Smith is as solid as they come at RG despite his recent struggles with pressure. Thuney is probably the best interior offensive lineman in the league, enough said. Teven Jenkins has been extremely solid at LG but has given up 3 sacks. That said, he's a backup on this team which is pretty great quality. I don't know much yet about Nourzad and Driskell though I was pleasantly surprised by Driskell in pre-season. My defensive line is absolutely stacked with 4 capable starters. This group honestly allows for a really good 3-4 front if only I had more horses at ER. The edge gets a bit hairy with Judon having a down year and my youngsters not really coming of age. I have a great LB corps led by Logan Wilson. He's just a machine out there. Tranquill and McDuffie provide really solid options at OLB. Chenal can step in and be a force against the run. If Holcomb ever gets healthy again, this group would be otherworldly. My CB group is definitely something to be desired this year. Sneed and Adebo have been banged up and Benford and Murphy are giving up safety numbers in completion percentage right now. I'm hoping these guys get it together or I might need to inject some talent. Kelee Ringo hasn't developed, and I think he might eventually move to safety. At safety, Justin Reid has been nothing short of atrocious in pass defense which really hampers an otherwise great unit. Jessie Bates is his usual all-everything self and Hooker is having a good year, especially in coverage. Anthony Johnson needs to step up though or he might be out next year. Special teams are great with Butker, Araiza, and Winchester. Here are the stats:

Okay, going into the draft, let's see what we need. My priorities are:
Top Priorities: CB - I'm desperate for a #2 CB, and probably a #3 as well. High priority. QB - I really need a young QB, but that's going to be hard to do with a low first-round pick. I'm in long-term trouble here even if I'm okay short-term. RB - I'm adequate here, though not great. Might be a good time to draft one high. Middle Priorities: C - I need the rookie to step up. It might be worth another pick here to hedge bets. WR - I'll likely wait for some young guys to develop here, but could go for a good prospect. Low Priorities: TE - At some point I need to find an heir for Travis Kelce, but maybe not this year. S - I'm in good shape here. No strong needs. DT - I need to invest a high pick here or continue waiting for some young guys to develop. I'll probably do the latter since Wharton has been stepping up strong. Depth/Opportunity: OT - I'm fine here. No immediate needs unless someone jumps out. DE - Probably need some depth here. ILB - I'm strong here. No needs. OG - I'm fine here. No immediate needs. OLB - I'm really strong here. No needs. K, P, LS - All good. Roster: QB Russell Wilson (Steelers) Aidan O'Connell (Raiders) Carson Wentz RB Alvin Kamara (Saints) Isaih Pacheco Jaylen Wright (Dolphins) Samaje Perine WR Khalil Shakir (Bills) Adonai Mitchell (Colts) Justin Watson Hollywood Brown Malachai Corley (Jets) Juju Smith Schuster TE Travis Kelce Grant Calcaterra (Eagles) Zach Kuntz (Jets) OT Orlando Brown, Jr. (Bengals) Jawaan Taylor Morgan Moses (Redskins) Walter Rouse (Vikings) G Joe Thuney Trey Smith Wyatt Teller (Browns) C Cody Whitehair (Raiders) Sedrick Van Pran-Granger (Bills) Specialists K - Harrison Butker LS - James Winchester P - Matt Araiza Safeties Justin Reid Andre Cisco (Jaguars) Jordan Poyer (Bills) Coby Bryant (Seahawks) CB Joey Porter, Jr. (Steelers) Amik Robertson (Lions) Caelen Carson (Cowboys) Kalen King (Packers) OLB Zach Baun, LB (Eagles) Leo Chenal Henry To'oTo'o (Texans) Drue Tranquill ILB Ivan Pace (Vikings) Nakobe Dean (Eagles) DE George Karlaftis Dorance Armstrong (Commanders) Charles Omenihu Cedric Johnson (Bengals) Myles Cole (Jaguars) DT Tershawn Wharton Andrew Billings (Bears) Dewayne Carter (Bills) Zacch Pickens (Bears) Moro Ojomo (Eagles) Adetomiwa Adebawore (Colts) |
Good stuff Rainman.
Here's my outlook... Probable Draft Selections: 1-31, 2-63, 3-95, 4-132, 5-168, 6-209, 7-256 (Comp) High Priority: DE - I desperately need a compliment to Karlaftis with Judon aging out, as none of my later fliers have really developed. RB - Aaron Jones doesn’t have much left, so it’s probably time to find a new #1 WR - Troy Franklin and Malik Washington showed they can be complimentary assets, but I need a true X to pair with Worthy Medium Priority: SS - Amani Hooker is a nice player but injuries get the best of him. I’d like to find a developmental future starter here to take over RG - This is dependent on what happens with Trey Smith. If the Chiefs trade him, I have a decision to make. Cutting Christian Mahogany might prove to be a bad move. RT - Jawaan Taylor probably isn’t long to be here. I’d like to find a developmental RT if I can. LB - Cole Holcomb can’t stay healthy, and Drue Tranquill is starting to show his age. Plus, Chenal and McDuffie are very average starters. It would be nice to get better around Logan Wilson. Low Priority: QB - Finding a long-term backup to Mahomes would be prudent, but I can kick this can with whoever KC brings in as an FA. FS - Anthony Johnson Jr hasn’t developed as I expected, but Bates remains stellar. A later shot in the dark for depth is all I need, so we’ll see how the board falls. No Need/Depth: DT - I have a strong 4-deep rotation with Sieler, Madubuike, Smith, and Stills. Even with a strong class, I might not go there. CB - If Sneed rebounds from injury, I have a strong 4-deep with Adebo, Murphy, and Benford. I might take a late-round flier on a guy, but it’s not a need. TE - Even if Kelce retires, Otton, Gray, and Wiley should give me adequate production. LT - Raimann and Walker are a solid 1-2 for me and are young, so no real need. LG - Thuney is aging out but Jenkins is a solid #2. I might wait a year to address depth when Thuney is gone. Notable UFAs: SS Justin Reid DE Charles Omenihu WR Hollywood Brown QB Carson Wentz SP Matt Araiza (ERFA) LS James Winchester Roster:

Oh, good point about the free agents. Depending on how things play out, I'll need to move DE up notably on my list and dip into the WR prospects yet again. Maybe a safety, too.
|
Thinking my roster won 6-8 games this season. I have some major holes at DL and WR, and my drafting last year didn't really help. I'll work on my updates roster this weekend.
|
I probably didn't have a great season, either. However, I'll brag that I had a pro bowl QB (Russell Wilson), while you other guys had to rely on a non-pro-bowler (Patrick Mahomes II) :D
